    WTF is this?

Or more to the point what is it going to turn into?

We have dozens of these "things" crawling around our front deck at the moment. They are a brown revolting looking caterpiller dragging around a cocoon of some sort. They climb up to the roof of our deck and hang there. Then when you least expect it these things drop to the floor looking for all the world like a broken stick. They are in all sizes but this one is 90mm long.

I have a very unhealthy fear of moths (what ever that is called) and would hate to think this is going to hatch and become mothra!

    Any ideas?

Yep, sure. They're... um.... Baby Mothra's? The brain sucking variety... that's why they drop from above...

    True.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

He's right. They land on your head then burrow under the skin like the bot fly larva only in this case they don't eat blood, they eat brains.

    True.

Edit: There was a link on here last week showing them being removed. Very nasty

Quit whining, it's faster than the public transportation and with todays petrol prices they are doing you a favour.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)
