21 Big River Bikers left Balclutha in moist conditions this morning to ride to Port Chalmers / Carey's Bay for lunch. 21 ! ! on the first ride!
The number of bikes were a suprise!
Mostly cruisers, many newish and an assortment of tourers and of course a couple of Harleys. The exit from Balclutha was very much in tip toe mode as a couple of kays out of town there is 500m stretch of that very shiny bitumen which was glissening after a pre-dawn shower.
A few brave soles shot off to nip through the Henley loop and eventually met up and rode in stretched convoy to the Carey's Bay Pub for lunch.
Mention lunch and who but XJNUTS turned up.
The return by way of Green Island saw the group break in two with half traveling SH1 to Waihola and the rest cruising down the coast through Brighton , Taieri Mouth and over the very interesting newly sealed road to Waihola. With a mixed crew of experience, returnees and newbies the pace through this gravel strewn section was sedate, especially into the low winter sun.
The table photo below shows normajean tucking into a sumptious sea food chowder and DAFFYD wrestling with turkey sandwich at the Carey's Bay Pub. Also on the run were, tjwatt & xknuts
The return to Clutha was in warm weather. What a great day.
Look forward to the nest ride! Cheers.![]()
