hey suzi....my advice....cheap steering dampers are like cheap saftey wear...
spend the extra coin and go Ohlins....I have one...and apart from been a beautiful piece of looking kit...it works really well...an almost perfect range of adjustment...and was really easy to fit it...ring 06 278 4160 and ask for robert taylor.

For those in the know...I ride a TL1000s...the are the most well known tankslap happy bikes...and since the ohlins damper...no worries...at all!!!!

Have you ever had a tank slapper on it? Do you still have chicken strips on your tyres? Have you ever launched out of a corner using full throttle while cranked right over with everything dragging?

If you answered, "No", to the above then save your dosh.

Otherwise don't go for any false economy stuff. Get an Ohlins and buy it from Robert Taylor in Hawera so it gets set up properly. Check that you have brackets to mount it as well, if not there will be engineering costs.

If you are riding hard enough to NEED, not want, a steering damper then get to a race track.

Be aware that a poorly setup steering damper can slow your steering, make slow speed stuff awkward, and possibly even make the steering very heavy.

I'd go ohlins, with a harris mounting kit, it all works well and looks fantastic(i think you would have seen mine on Saturday?) the R6 i test rode needed one more that my R1 duz(R1 only needs it for landing wheelies) but i wouldnt worry to much about travling the country side to get someone to set it up, u can adjust them on the fly, and if you go ohlins you are only going to have it set at around 2 or 3 of the 16 positions availible(i know coz i have seen how you ride) it will sort any potential tank slappers without slowing down your cornering...thats my 2cents worth...

Dont know about your Ohlins, but mine has 20 settings...

Ohlins and WP are the best, with Hyperpro a close second
See Robert Taylor for any Ohlins requirements www.northwest.co.nz

I know - I ride like a Girl - perhaps that's because I am one!!! But don't forget you didn't catch me on the Old Tai Tapu rd - i did get up to 201 kms. But then you guys left me behind after that!!
Sounds like the Ohlins is the one for me - we were looking at either Ohlins or Hyperpro. As Glen says, I may not ride that hard but it is a safety feature just in case.

hyperpro....is really a try hard brand...look pretty...but not so much go pretty....if you know what I mean...

Racers use Ohlins and white power....mainly ohlins....and yes I agree....it is a major safty feature...and worth the peice of mind alone...

I'm not sure you really need it for safety if you're not riding hard on the road. A bit of head shake lets you know your trying hard
I had one on my NSR for many years and ended up winding it right down to get a better feeling for the front end.
My current GSXR slaps all the time on the road without one, but never enough to make me think I need to waste a shit load of money on a damper. I can buy a couple of rear tires for the same money

well your a fuckin idiot...who obviously wants to have and accident....and your advice is stupid....think about it....your obviously a know it all...who's ego doesn't allow comon sence...because it has a total lack of though towards consequences...

So when the day comes where you get bucked off ya bike and flip over and get run over by a car or hit a tree....Makes a saftey Item like a damper...look pretty cheap....cheaper than alot of people pay for insurance...

Ignore this dick people....he doesn't suport safety!!!!

Takes one to know one they say........

My VTR will shake a bit under hard acceleration as the wheel hovers over the ground.... it does not worry me and it does not need a dampner, a shack to you CP is not necessary a shake to another rider... so chill man
    cheers DD
