That's nice. Although Pete Krinkles CR500 was geared for 130mph and there wasn't a knobbly on the planet that would last a meeting.

Rode the thing around the Big Fresh carpark one day, scared the fucking shit outta me.

interesting wee toy very very similar to the KLR1300 a dutchman made back in the 80s with a highly modded Z1300 suspended with KLR600 gear

    I'd be like

Those things are just lunacy. I'd scare myself shitless trying to ride one of those I reckon. Either that or develop a sudden lust for dirt and turn into a raving mad lunatic [like Motu... ], looking for anything vaguely looking offroad-like with which to kill myself...

Nah, think I'll stick with road bikes, thanks. Barely had mine two weeks!

Where were you beach racing? Do they still have it down your way? I think beach racing has finaly fizzled out in the Auckland area - Muriwai many, many years ago,and Kariotahi just in the last few years.Probably no interest these days.

60s and 70s were the prime years for beach racing - all the obsolete road racers ended up on the beach, and a lot of specials were made specificaly for beach racing.I've owned a couple of ex beach racers. We used to go down to Kariotahi and watch my mate racing - one year he won the 350 Champs ahead of Ginger Molloy.Forrest Cardin made a JAP VTwin powered featherbed,it was a real monster - you'd see it coming down the beach just loafing along...then he'd drop it into top! The revs would drop and the bike would lift itself out of the sand and really start to move! Kinda like that part in the Worlds Fastest Indian when Burt changes gear on the salt flats. The JAP would dig a hole a foot deep at the turn pegs...I stood in one.I rode my mates beach racer down the course - oh,scary shit man!

I think Beach Racing started to fade when Classic Racing started in the late70s,maybe 1980 or so.The road racers that were retired to the beach were spruced up and put back into road racing trim.

Anyway - good to see a ''modern'' beach racer.

Geez i'd probably freak myself out in the dirt make the old XR500 look like a pw50

wont need anything extreme to shock the lad to much, a internal helmet cam to get the expressions when he gets slung on the back would be worth a laugh though

    It'd look something like this:

Either that, or the camera would mysteriously get coated in this foul smelling liquid... where the hell did that come from?!?
