    Distance on a two-stroke?

Ok, so yes I haven't been riding that long, and I'd definatly class myself as a newbie. However, Im thinking about doing a relativly long ride on my bike, maybe over the hill to Akaroa and back but with my only experiance with two stroke motors being my lawn mower, Im wondering if there's any issues with putting the old two stroke through the distance?

The modern two stroke engine is extremely reliable , and a very different thing to your lawn mower engine

Remember to keep your oil tank well topped up, and give the throttle a blip on fast downhills . Reason ? the oil pump feed on modern two strokes is controlled by throttle position. A prolonged period of high revs (= motor needs lots of lubrication) on a closed or almost closed throttle (= reduced oil supply) can be a bad combination. Opening the throttle (ie twisting the twistgrip) occasionally will give an extra "dollop" of oil to keep the motor happy.

I would have no hesitation in touring the country on a KR150 (and indeed some members have done so ) . A short trip such as you propose is nothing at all. It will be good for hte bike, two strokes need a blast every so often to clear tehir lungs.

Go for it, have a good time.

Thats very reassuring. And all you suggest is just opening the revs up a little to get a bit more oil around the engine? Excellent.

yep - i thrashed the living crap out of my rg150 and it still did 24,000K's before it blew.
It was not common if i did a 1,000K trip for a day and the motor barely got below 9,000rpm

LOL, so along the same sort of lines... this bike already has 21000k on the clock. Anything I should be keeping an eye on?

Yeah, don't thrash the living crap out of it for the next 3000km...

In the OIL tank, yes. But not in the fuel tank. If you put oil in the petrol on a two stroke (effectively converting it to premix) you must increase the jetting, otherwise it will run lean and likely hole a piston

The young fellas that run the RG150's in streetstock normally put additional oil in the tank maybe 50ml per 5L or tank im not exactly sure , both would be safe. These are absoloutly thrashed. Use good oil like TTS of some other full synthetic. The extra cost of the oil is insignificant compared to the price of a top end overhaul
