If the WR250R also has six speed gearbox I'd like that. However, the weights don't sound very impressive because 276 pounds even in USA is still about 125kg isn't it?

i so wanted to do that to my yzf250 before i sold it. Would have been a bundle of fun riding to work, poppin wheelies at leasure

This is quite a different machine from the existing WR or YZ. Yamaha seem to be moving away from the five valve head these days. I seems to be a trick little beastie besides this.
Fuel Injection and electric start only and 125kg pretty much a road bike really. I wouldn't want to get it properly wet trying to do a river crossing or something silly like that now

I'll keep my DRZ400SM for now. But that is very cool. What an awesome learner machine that would be. A 250 with good quality suspension and brakes. And ~125kg is lighter than my DR, so that bike will feel extremely flickable.

Just looked at the specs a bit harder and I see they are talking peak power at 10,000 rpm so this isn't the revver the WR250F is but no doubt its been done for engine longevity on the road but with the fuel injection and fancy electronics they may have got power similar to the F engine - but we won't know for sure until we see more about this. Interesting.

Weight wise you see my F was said to be only 102 kg dry so it is a big difference there.

Yeah for sure, that's what I was saying about engine longevity - meaning piston and rings not so often, but they may have done this without losing much power compared to the F motor.

You see I'm not so interested in the motard version so not saying much about that but either one looks like a pretty good compromise option. The weight is a bugger though that's almost as heavy as my XR250L.

Following through the internet links I looked at that new XT250 as well and it looks like its using the Scorpio motor which unfortunately is only a 5 speed gearbox so that one has gone in the wrong direction.

Tall seat height of these things isn't usually user friendly either unless you are twice mine or Finn's height.

Yeah the WR looks like it would be a barrell of fun but man they hit the '08 XT with an ugly stick!

Have you ever ridden a Hyosung 250? Not good. Some people don't mind paying. The Honda VTR250 is an RRP of NZD$8000. The Yam won't be much more. People buy the VTR new.

It claims the same seat height as my DRZ, and I'm pretty average in height. Below average even. (My weight drags me down.. ) I think my DRZ is an excellent learner machine. I learnt on a trail bike; a Suzuki TS185ER, which when I was 15 years old was pretty tall.
