Chch Wednesday Evening Cruises - 2008

These rides have officially closed down for winter - but don't despair!!

The Chch Maintenance Evenings have taken their place. See here for details

Every Wednesday - Meet at Burger King carpark on Moorhouse Ave at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm departure.

Right, I think it's time to leave this thread behind us and start a new one for 2008.

These rides are designed to be a social ride and an opportunity for newer riders to gain experience from the not so new riders. The destination will generally be a pub for a drink and a chat.

I must stress that this is not a race from point A to point B. If you want to "see how fast you can go" then please don't come along.

Ideally we will decide on a route on the thread beforehand and we will have a briefing at the carpark before we leave when we will explain the route and re-group points.

We will cater for whoever turns up on the night and if we have a reasonably large group we will try to split it into two with a "faster" group and a "cruisier" group both heading for the same destination. The "faster" guys will just get there first.

Please ride within your own abilities and take care for others on the ride.

Please keep this thread on topic

    Cool.

Anyone have some suggestions for new routes as well?? Could be good to try some others, look how popular the $10 bar meal at dovocelles has become, maybe there are other hidden deals out there!

Absolutely bound to be, though I don't know of any off the top of my head. Having many options is generally the best way to go I reckon, a bit of variety and people don't get too bored. Having said that I haven't made any of the rides to Duvauchelle yet unfortunately, so that's on my list!

Can't go too far wrong with good old Godley House, though...

    Rides

One Then through that we road out to the highway and back to chch, road not noted on map. A stop at either Waikari pub, or something Greta Vally side
TwoTo the Hororata Pub for pie and drink
ThreeRoud to Ashley gorge, and stop at Oxford for a natter/drink
    FourTo the Huranui Pub

I guess posible alternates to heading onto the Penishula... maybe straight and booring in parts, but straight and booring builds character, does it not????

    Thats the one

Three looks interesting. One and Four are practically the same, four just going a little further along the same road. Still, worth a try sometime, good on ya for posting up maps too.

    number one map

where you end at Waikari, instead of returning via the Weka pass,
Deviate through Scargill and turn back at Greta Valley,
That link road many will know is a nice 27k of twists short straights and a couple of corners where reading the road ahead is inportant.
The pluss for me is that I can join in for that ride,
Your other routes are just too far away for me to justify the trip.

That being said, have fun on which ever route you take

I hope my bike will be back in working order before the yacht races start up again... At the moment I don't know how good the chances are unfortunately.
Otherwise I guess it'll close down come winter...

Just a reminder, Fireliv and I won't be there this Wednesday.

Those going should decide on a route. Have fun and we'll see you next year.
