    F***in fairing Bolts!

    CBR600RR5

Middle fairing there is three bolts to remove to removee the cowl that sits just behind/outside the radiator....... but f**k me if it doesn't want to come off!

The bolts go into a rubber nut/grommety type thing, which is fantastically inaccessible and they tend to just spin rather than undo.

Tried levering up the bolt with a screwdriver as I unscrew it, but nup that doesn't seem to work.

Tried getting a pair of pliers in on the one nut/grommety thing I can access but nup thats not working.

Any ideas on how to undo these bolts! Without spendin money this is!

Put the appropriate fitting for the (screw head?) fastening in a power drill. Kinetic energy (or lack of) should get the bolt moving before the rubber grommet does. Now it's loose there shouldn't be a problem.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

pull the ram air covers off to get better access, lift the front up and back till the front pops then twist them out, or have you got a t bar allen key on the bolts in question? and push VERY hard on them and wind them out failing that post up on 600rr.net bound to be answers there. bike maintance whats that?

And when it's apart you may be able to make some modifications so it's easier next time.

and I keep smashing my head on the light in the dining room that I realise I now need to fix as well!

press a spare finger/thumb against the back of the grommet then un tighten.

failing that.. sell it and buy a Suzuki; they don't have any problems in taking things off.. in fact they come of by themselves

No idea mate, got everything undone now and just trying to wriggle the airduct covers out of the airbox/tank cover and then the whole front should come off!

Else I might just use the tried and trusted Suzuki fairing removal method and go throw it into a fence somewhere!

Fuck me why are these airduct cover tabs so fuckin awkward to get out?

USed the power drill to "melt" out one sides top bolt which worked fine, except the hammer drill was hardly the scalpel required for this task and semi-stripped the bolt on the other side, so I can get the right hand side off now but not the left! Bloody Honda not wanting to fall apart.......

    Gas axe.

I hate the horrible cheap nasty bodgy way that fairings are mounted on bikes. I've NEVER seen one that is engineeringly half decent.

I like DZUS I think they are, which is weird as two of the say million bolts of the fairings are this type and work as designed every time!

Fairings off, thank fuck, now why did I take it off again?.........

So whats the best bet to replace these shitty things with

Considering they come through the outer black fairing and into the silver bit

Was thinking something like this which is elsewhere on the fairing, but mounting the backing might be a little difficult.....

Well fuck me, these stupid nuts are killing me, I got the fairing off so now I can get a decent grip on the nut/rubber thing, but even with a pair of vice grips as tight as a really tight thing (the fuckin more ridiculous by the second nut is circular not octagonal or whatever) but the bolt is so tight the nut is just spinning in the vice grips......... if I ever meet the designer who used these I will insert them through his eyes!

when and if you get it out, remember not to tighten up so much .. they work fine till some ham fisted queer guy with a bent eye has a play and over tightens 'em or you grind the head of when you slide your baby.

wd40 the fookah and let it soak then sell the bike and buy a yamaha.
