Long distance poll for those doing over 20,000 km

[I did not add enough long distance options in my other poll, posted two days ago.]

For those that have gone more than 20,000 km:
How far have you gone in any 12 month period of time?

This is different than my other poll, which asks how many km's have you done in the previous year (to the present time).

How did you do such a great distance? Mostly commuting, multiple tours, or ????

I don't think you will be able to see the poll results unless you vote, so I or someone else will post screenshots of the results as time goes on.
Oops - answered it as for the "last 12 months" one: 42,000km in calendar year 2008.

The most I have ever done on the road in one year is 67,000km, but I have averaged about 45,000 a year for the last 40 years or so. I just ride my bikes whenever I can, in preference to any other mode of transport. And, when overseas, I hire bikes to ride (or if I'm somewhere for a month or two, buy some old shitter), rather than going places by train or bus or plane.

Incidentally, it's over 900,000km since I fell off a bike on the road. I have never hit or been hit by another vehicle on the street.

Racing and trials - hmm, that's different....

I don't really know. Nowadays I guess I do 30 - 40 thousand a year, but when I was younger I did much greater mileages, on account of GiJoe type insanity. I mean, who measures such things.

I'm 25, have never owned a car and only started really riding about this time last year. I did at least 25,000 k's last year. Call it making up for lost time, I guess, as well as a thorough appreciation of my new sense of independence.

There is a "view poll results" button below the poll.

Also, http://www.carjam.co.nz/ might give people a fair idea how far they've gone in the year.

Actually, it is indeed. But with numerous bikes, it is nigh impossible to keep track of the totals, even if all had working speedos.

I've said 40-45,000km... I think thats about right. Bikes change at different periods, and for at least the last years I have ridden two bikes constantly, so makes it harder to have an idea of how many km. This current year is going to be the most quite easily.

Almost half would be commuting, I don't own a car, and enjoy riding bikes instead. The rest is fun in the country, and even a short coro loop is 500 odd km, so it racks up quite quick.

In the mid 80s I scored my dream UK OE job in Devon making parts for rockets and F1 cars. After few months they ended my accommodation allowance so I decided to commute from my Gran's home in Gloucestershire. It was 82 miles door to door.

I started doing 5 days a week but couldn't keep it going over the winter plus having to do a hard days work in between. Over a year I clocked 50k just in commuting. Then there were the European trips. The year from summer to summer was well over 60k in 12 months mainly because I had a company travel allowance.

My Honda 400/4 wasn't really up to the commute so I got a CB900F packed with Yoshi parts. I turned the temperamental s.o.b. into scrap in no time. I then bought a BMW twin and found out what the fuss was about.

After all that they bribed me with a pay rise to live in Devon which I took.

The ks were the easy part, it was the mid winter oil changes or freeing parts seized by the road salt that got to me.

Thanks. I did not know it was there - of course it disappeared once I voted.

My km's are mainly touring or overnighters, - I can't see the point in day rides - all part of the 'freedom/escape' feeling of riding I guess - plus www.rustynuts.co.nz!

Depends on your definition of day ride? I see anything not involving accomodation as a day ride (and less hassle without accomodation), but this can range (so far) up to anything like 21 odd hours...
