Have seen a few threads on here about this. Anyone interested in doing a local one. Post on here if you are and I will start one. Winter I know, but good reason to get off the couch and onto the bike.Rules are easy...

#1 - Find the tag and reproduce the photo (as best as possible). The first person to post a found tag gets to place the next tag. If you get a tag, but somebody else posts their picture first, you lose.

#2 - Take the tag to a new location, get the photo and post it here. Give a few hints so the next person can figure out where the tag is located. Try to place the tags in interesting locations, maybe a bit of history that can be found down some nice twisties.

#3 - Tag must be a) findable and b) may be placed on a dirt road if a street bike can make it. Maintained gravel is OK, but make sure to let folks know that gravel is required to get to your tag. We don't want to exclude those who don't like to get dirty.

#4 - File photos are NOT permitted. You gotta ride to play this game.

#5 - Your bike has to be in the TAG picture

These are the original rules.

Christchurch rules -

1. Tag must be within a 100km radius of Christchurch city.

2. New tag must be posted within 24 hours.

Seems like if a game is started the players will come.

The orginal rules on ADV (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7739686&postcount=1) seem pretty good, better post yours or copy theirs on post #1 of the game thread when it's started.

How far out of town in each direction can we take the tag before it becomes unreasonable?

Might make for a pretty slow game down here through the winter months. But why not.

Yep, I don't do gravel. Not with my new drive belt lol. Awesome sounds like there's a few interested then. I might get the bike out this afternoon and take the first piccie if I can think of somewhere interesting. Actually, I have somewhere in mind.
Distance limit. Don't think that's mentioned in the other threads. What does everyone reckon?? 250 kms? - since it's winter.

the original adv rules say gravel is ok but must be "road bikeable" and to say that gravel riding is required. For reference here are teh rules as per the NEW JERSEY adv tag o rama

Garden State Tag-O-Rama

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules are easy...

#4 - File photos are NOT permitted. You gotta ride to play this game.

#5 - Your bike has to be in the TAG picture

there also seems to be rules introduced to make the new tag posted within a reasonable time period (48 or 36 hrs).Distance is limited only by enthusasm of the group.Winter makes it hard cos its dark when i go to work and nearly dark at home time.Prolly same for most people

Am I right, there was no tag? The rule is just to take a pic with my bike at same location...?

I feel like I have stolen someone's xmas pressies by claiming it first

Not expecting great weather this weekend. Would players be happy with a place in town, to keep things running? Otherwise, I could ride out for another location tomorrow early eve, and post for a Sunday ride? If I do a ChCh one, someone else should be able to do another for Sunday anyway....

There you go.
I didn't know what it was for, but have driven and ridden past it often over the years so new where it was straight away this time.

For these in the dark photos, most cameras have a long exposure night setting people should try out too.
Trick is to keep the camera very still while it does it's thing.

Yep the last one was just north of Ryans Rd on Russley Rd. I have to confess to using some video that we have at work to confirming the location before the ride.

Attached are a couple of photos of the new location. The first photo is "the photo" but as it was so dark the second photo is design to be a subtle clue. Think about the possible orientation of the second photo.

Oh and watch out for the soft ground. My bike decided to have a little lie down cause the side stand sunk in. There are stones around the memorial that will help with this.

If it's just down the road from MVnut I'd hazard a guess and say out generally Rolliston direction which also just happens to be an area the tagger once lived..
Don't know for sure where MVnut is but searching his posts makes me think that general direction.
Mmmm Burnham is a biut further down the road, I wonder if they have any rocky monuments or memorials with crosses on top?

All just speculation on my part... I could just as easily be miles off but it kind of fits with the firey sky, maybe city or intersection lights on the horizon and what I thought was a hill I now think is a row of trees running along a long straightish roadside into the distance.

Clue please

TA has given a pretty good clue that gives you the general area i.e. rolly. I'll add that the "glow" is the glow of the city (chch) (fancy setting I just discovered on the camera - long exposure with an infill flash). This means the road runs towards/away from the city (generally NE/SW in the Rolly area). I recon that narrows it down to about 5 possible roads. Time to start riding :scooter:

Tag6 in daylight as seen by google maps street view thanks to the help of a truck driver at work.
He hasseled me about staring at the computer screen all the time so I showed him what I was hunting and told him approximate area.
Turns out he had picked up onions in a field nearby once upon a time and bingo, when I went to street view near where he said, there it was.

1 the rock
2 looking toward city
3 looking away from city.
Also note I have no idea how old the pictures are so I guess the scenery might have grown or been eaten a bit since.

OH

and I had another dream with a mikkel based character, this time you were trying to sell me a guitar in a very dick smith esq shop that also doubled as a bar/concert venue with 2 HUGE cylindrical shaped acoustically brilliant rooms.

cant remember the brand but it was like a easiphone or something, was like a portmanteau of epiphone and the word easy, and it was acoustic.

I didn't really want to buy it either, as in real life I've just purchased an Ibanez e-acoustic, and you were a rubbish salesman.

I'd just been fighting off a horde of zombie-velociraptors in the shop and stopped to admire the guitars.

I don't care, I posted first. Dave accepted it. That's it as far as I am concerned. Phoenix will have to break more laws in order get in there earlier next time

However, I shall not halt my arrogance at that. Since it was dark I decided I needed something bright to help people identify the spot. Now, that kinda makes it either extremely obscure or very obvious. I went with very obvious, but since I spent about 20 minutes in the dark trying to find some good picture spots you will have to spend 20 minutes trying to find the same three spots that I took my pictures. Have fun and remember Meatloaf - two outta three ain't bad!

Clues are included for the observant... :D

So you want us to get all three tags? I can't even see the bike in the third one...

Mikkel
15th June 2009, 19:50
rule number 1 says to reproduce the tag as best as possible.

If we really wanna get down to nitpicking the rules:

Rules are easy...

Rule number one very specifically states that you LOOSE if someone posts the tag before you. Best as possible becomes a bit of a funky thing - for starters I wasn't on a sportsbike, it was dark when I got there, etc., etc.

So you want us to get all three tags? I can't even see the bike in the third one...

Well, if you're really adverse to riding around some nice tight and steep streets by all means just do one. Any of the three are acceptable, but there's bling to whoever gets all three first.

And if you can not see the bike in the 3rd you need a new monitor.

Well I'm not too sure about that Mike, you weren't actually where Dave took the photo. Thought I had this one too... sigh.

Well, it's the same bloody wall, same piece of tarmac and the same peninsula in the background. But if people insist on being silly I guess I'll just have to borrow Dave's bike and helmet. Daylight will have to wait until tomorrow though.

Tough shit. KB isn't a democrazy remember? So, if you disagree that much - where is your tag?

I posted the tag 61 minutes after it was put up by Dave. Dave accepted it - can we agree that neither of us were uncertain of the location, we just differ in how anal we are about the precision and it's not like there is a very notable object e.g. memorial or such in the picture? You posted yours a whole 45 minutes later... What is next do people need to bring a bloody printout along so they can get the orientation, angle, helmet placement, etc. just right? The whole point is to go riding to explore your area, not getting hung up in minor details.

By all means form a committee to piss and moan about the rules and whether it was close enough, but in that case I propose that we might start a seperate game for those who wants to ride and play hide and seek at the same time.

Not difficult to find, you just need to have a look around the area. But since the weather is about to turn foul I suspect that the win will be a matter of who's the tougher biker ;)

Been out there an hour, gave up after no success. Found a few places that were close, but no cigar.

Still a fun ride though! From the roadworks guy who I chatted to about bikes, to the nightmarish little helldog that chased me up a hill, to the amount it improved my hill starts.

I'd say it was an hour well spent!

Hmmm, I didn't think I had made them that tricky. I was just siddling along trying to find a really good camera spot. Did you pick up the three clues before you left? They will let you know when you've found the right spot.

As for the hills, yes there are parts that are even steeper than our driveway.

Dam after I saw you racing around and heading back through the tunnel I figured you had them and headed home, unfortunately there was a spot where I turned uphill into some loose chip and the bike had a wee lay down, going to be costly. Oddly always seems to be when I am at low speeds that it does this, I am going to get the XJ running its far more nimble.

As the others said, that's not good news JMemonic. That's one of the best things about the DR, you just don't worry about little fall overs as when you pick it back up you can't tell it happened. It's very nice to ride with that in mind when you get into a tight spot.

I'll probably go hunting tonight after finishing work about 8:30pm.

Yep, the entrance to the Hyllton Heights is correct. The clue "Overseas" referred to the For Sale billboard stating that overseas owner must sell...

What is the location of your attempt at picture 3?

Ahh i get it, i knew it because i have a friend whos dad lives there. but i had to go to be sure because i couldnt remember the stone wall.

That location is a secret (because i have no idea, i got soooo lost up there) But i believe its the highest road availible that has a similar view down to that container dock. and i think i actually went to the right spot twice then left started to get really cold so thought meh good enough.

As for Mikkels turn around photo, surely it's at the end of a road. Maybe even the end of Hyllton Heights?
Leave the rest of your tags alive, I might still go for a nosie up there tonight. Haven't gazed down on the lights of Lyttelton for a while now.

And the new tag... can't be that many paddocks about the city that fit. I'm pretty sure I know where to head.

There's no paved road between the place where I took the 3rd photo and the Summit road. If you consider the clue and look at a map of the area it becomes quite obvious (unless you don't get the clue of course).

I was tempted to put the tag about half-way up the Bridle path - but between it being dark, me being alone and people crying about gravel I thought better of it.

Was the clue "The end of the line" - if not, what makes you so certain then? (As for Hyllton Heights - it's one of these new friendly posh neighbourhoods with huge fuck-off gates and private road signs galore. So no, you can't ride up Hyllton Heights which is the main reason I stopped where I did - the other option from there is another dirt road.)

Now see how ambiguous clues can be. All seems too easy when you know where you are, but the rest of us are just, well, lost.

I assumed the turning point was where you'd have to turn around because there was an end to the road. How many other reasons are there to turn. No I don't want to count bends in the road as a reason.

Actually I thought you may have been further round. I've been up Comwell Rd which looked good to me as a possible location.

When you are there it does make sense anyway. The street is very narrow and there's only one place you can turn around without getting off your bike.
