There's a mustard yellow one on Fairview Avenue that's been sitting there for the past 3 years that I am aware of. Belongs to a dissabled lady. So dissabled that she cannot see what an eye-sore she has on her drive.
Looks like an early 1970s model.

It might not be the alignment, but it's a good starting point.
A warn steering rack and also past it shockers can produce similar symtoms.
Are those boys at the top of your road no good?
I've used them and they seem(ed) pretty good  They found my steering was spot on and didn't charge me :woohoo:

Which road is that? If you mean in Birkenhead, I've moved to G-field now lol.
ummm could be a worn steering rack, never know.
First I'm getting my mechanic, to use his handy dandy BMC hydrospastic pump to pump up/check my susepnsion pressure/level, then it's wheel alignment/balance :)
Found a place on Target road that's meant to be good, so shall check them out.

Dad has been retired for a few years now, and has indicated to me that if I don't want to hold on to any of the specialist tools he is happy to sell them off to enthusiasts.
This is a complete collection from a Pommy mech that arrived in NZ in 1960 and serviced everything Austin and Morris (and of course MG, Wolseley, and Riley with BMC and Leyland).
I am quite sad that they have to go, as I remember all the valve grinds and clutches, cams and webber carb replacements we decided to do on the minis and 1100s/1300s we built together when I was getting my initiation into cars in the early 80's.
As much as I would love to hold on to the Mini we have up for sale, it's not that practical for us right now so the gear is here if you want it.
Tell you what, you can have the car and all the tools as a package if you like. You would probably get that for less than it would cost for just the tools in ten years time.

No mods for this one like the mental 1380's with Allegro diff's that did sub 6 sec 0-60's (with a top speed of 95mph) that we used to build!
Never bored one out past that but the books reckoned you could get to 1440!

Years ago I had an Austin Cambridge, nothing to skite about I know, anyway she started to run pretty rough so I pulled the head off and found the valves and seats in a terrible state. My neighbor had a Datsun Bluebird rusting away on his lawn and he told me that Datsun had copied the Austin motor and the head might fit my cambridge.Sure enough it bolted straight on.It had the added advantage of larger valves and a two barrel downdraugh carb.Looking for more goodies I pulled the rest of the motor to bits and was amazed to find MOWOG embossed on the conrods! It had Datsun cast on the block and the neighbour told me his oldman had bought the car brand new and it had never been apart before.

Had a 54 Minx and it was fabulous to drive, smooth and comfy at 60mph. Only prob was the block on the side-valve was warped and needed planing so it would blow head-gaskets. The the rear axles, being held in by axle nuts on the shaft and which were right hand thread both sides... well the right rear axle nut undid itself and the wheel axle and all shot out and jammed against the mudguard on the main road just out of Siverdale, coming back from Albany. So there i was, in the middle of road works getting covered in dust, trying to get the flamin' thing back together, and manged to crack the brake hose in the process, leading to having to drive home with only the handbrake... Fun going over the Waiwera hill...

Didn't recognize the name, but google just confirmed what I thought, it's an Austin Kimberley!
Which was of course a variant of the ADO17, AKA Austin/Morris 1800 Wolseley 18/85.

Ex Motorcorp parts manager - when he left after Honda took over he took most of their old BMC stock. He started a parts and repair busness at his families garden centre on the Scenic Drive. He was the man for any BMC parts, but later got into Mercedes too. The council made him move all his wrecks out...it was a storm in a tea cup some years ago.

He was a good dude. Fell into the council mincing machine . There was a film about it a couple of years ago. Council took all the car bits away, turned out the people he had staying there, then took him to the cleaners big time. Violation of this rule and that rule, regulations blah to blahblah, failure to be a good compliant sheep, the usual stuff. Bastards.
Nothing left there now, but back in the day he had just about everything.

Man,he was hard case...I'd ring him up -
"Yeah?''
'That you Graham?'
''Yeah''
'I'm looking for a square steering wheel for an Allegro...'
''Yeah''
.................................................. ........................
'So,you've got one then?'
''Yeah''
'Great, can you send it out to me?'

Mine was the 10.5;1 motor, 390cfm 4150 Holley and straight pipe :headbang:
As for heads, 3.9 injection or SD1 heads do the job, no point modifying the standard ones.
I'll buy another one eventually.
DAF vans, London Taxis and Range Rovers with the separate transfer case all had the LT77 box that bolts up
SD1 engine was the good one actually :) I'd prob pinch parts off that. was still running the twin carbs which suck. wanted a big single holley and bug catcher :D
not sure how many DAF vans or London taxis we have here :D haha, I think there are quite a few celicas in nz though.. I'v seen quite a few P6's that have had them bolted on so can't be too much of a mission.
is 10.5:1 the higher compression? or was the S 11:1.. I can't be bothered googling.. tired after a day stripping the Aprilia.. the more I dig, the more work I find that I need to do haha. All fun though! good to have a project again.

Bellhousing adapter/Modified driveshaft is all you really need for one.
10.5:1 was high comp, there were many variations of all though, mine (according to the engine code) was a 180hp one from factory, supposedly around 200hp with the Holley/Zorst. It lit up easily and was very smooth.

Assuming that theres a turbo under the intercooler, how does it get on with blowing through the SU carb?
I did a Mini turbo 20 odd years ago for a speedway saloon, that used a blow-thru 45DCOE. Sealed bearings for the butterfly spindle and plastic DellOrto floats 'cos the brass Weber ones collapsed under boost pressure and sank. IHI turbo, no intercooler
1440 (Datsun 1200 pistons, S rods on an offset ground crank) 649 cam and 10PSI boost was worth around 130HP at the wheels. Used to eat driveshaft joints until the owner got hardie spicers.
Would have been an absolute hoot in a road car.

Well the thing with blowing through the carb is, whatever boost pressure the carb is seeing in the throat, it needs to see the same pressure in the float bowl, or else the fuel will not be drawn through the jets. If the pressures aren't the same (ie higher in the venturi than in the bowl), fuel will be pushed back up the jets (carb 101 - atmospheric air pressure in the float bowl is higher than the pressure in the venturi, that pushes fuel through the jets)
The mini I turbo'ed was running 10PSI boost, I made a boost controlled fuel regulator valve, and used Triumph 2.5PI fuel pump (Lucas - same motor as windscreen wipers) this in the days when it was not possible to buy this sort of stuff off the shelf.
With the Weber carb the float chamber vent is on the front so it was easy to build a box to attach the hose from the compressor that cover the vent and the venturis. (Dellortos have the float chamber vent on top of the carb - the car owner tried a dellorto once. Worked really well until boost came on, pressure forced fuel out the vent and all over the exhaust manifold. Took a while to put the fire out.)
Tuning (ie jetting) was relatively straight forward, about an hours worth of dyno time. Water injection was added later, again home made - windscreen washer bottle and pump, pressure switch and a brass jet in the compressor intake.
The car was so successful in an up-to-2.3 litre class that turbos were eventually banned.

It goes well mate, very torquey. Got a special grind cam and a head ported by Peter Burgess specially for the supercharger. On Peters rolling road it made only a little less HP than a stock MGB V8. Happy ish with the motor but wish I had got Peter to do the whole lump. I'm going to run this bottom end for a couple of years and then get Peter to build up a stronger one and put a smaller pulley to up the boost a bit.

It's piss easy with CV carbs, run a pilot tube pointing to the airflow and plug your bowl vents in that.
Run an elec pump with 1:1 rising rate regulator set at around 2psi above boost pressure.
If you do your pilot tube the right way you can get away with factory jetting too.
Bit of a laugh with that Dellorto you mention :msn-wink::eek:

On thinking about it this was closer to 30 years ago. I guess it would be easier today with all the factory and aftermarket turbo bits available.
Another idea I'd like to try (bucket list = never will) would be a K100 BMW (bike) head on a mini block. (I know lots of others have already done this) Use the original BMW (non mapped) injection would be pretty straight forward to turbo thru.

Electronic injection but the early K100 setup used a swinging flap air flow meter so it would be relatively easy to turbo through.
Toyota engine? Look forward to seeing one of those on top of a A series gearbox.
