158hp...with a turbo...
What the fuck is this lol Narnia has gruntier cars!
Mooch

Assuming that theres a turbo under the intercooler, how does it get on with blowing through the SU carb?
I did a Mini turbo 20 odd years ago for a speedway saloon, that used a blow-thru 45DCOE. Sealed bearings for the butterfly spindle and plastic DellOrto floats 'cos the brass Weber ones collapsed under boost pressure and sank. IHI turbo, no intercooler
1440 (Datsun 1200 pistons, S rods on an offset ground crank) 649 cam and 10PSI boost was worth around 130HP at the wheels. Used to eat driveshaft joints until the owner got hardie spicers.
Would have been an absolute hoot in a road car.
Turbo is around the back. It's a ihi as well from a Mazda 1600gt turbo. Carb is off a metro turbo so the floats won't collapse under pressure. Head is ported / chambers shaped for turbo. Block bored to 1330cc, crank and rods are 1300 gt with the usual balancing and four bolt mains cap Pistons are forged 7.9 CR turbo pistions. Using a 1:1 rising rate fuel reg with bosch 916 fuel pump. . Gearbox is striaght cut with quaife ABT diff transmitted via hardy spicer CV's.
Looking to run 10 - 12 psi so should to 130-150hp at the crank but more importantly the small turbo will come on boost from around 2000 rpm and produce + 120 lbs of torque early on. The mini will wieght around 600 kg wet so should have enough power to have fun for entry motorsport.
I may replace the Carb at some stage and go with efi throttle body setup on the end of a webber inlet mainifold.
I looked into Honda Vtec conversions (cheaper to build with more power but not aseries) BMW k100RS head conversions (Block and pistions require custom machining so losts of $$$) Honda CBR600 head conversion (lack of info on conversion) and also at Toyota Starlet enging conversions. Decided to stay aseries in the end
.

Some food for thought. (pimp my Triumph :shit:)
Period V8 conversion with either a Rover alloy 3.5 - 4.4 v8 or Leyland P76 alloy 4.4 Litre conversion. Should be similar weight to iron block six. You can run all the same gauges except for rev counter which you can change to a stag version or modify orginal for V8 firing. (google smiths rev counter circuit diagrams)
Some links links

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/parts-accessories/engine-parts/auction-440772417.htm , Convert this back for road use but retain marine cam profile for hairyv8 idle and nice top end.

I was buying a house many years ago and the guy selling offered me his Morgan. He explained that he's had a Ford 2.8i engine fitted and he'd spent the past 4 months meticulously replacing every nut and bolt with a rivet. It seemed too cheap to be true and he wouldn't tell me why he was selling it (considering how much money he's spent). I couldn't really afford it anyway. He took me for a drive and it was quite wonderful.
It turned out that he was dying and just wanted to liquidate all of his assets. I wondered why he let us have so much furniture for so little.
The moral of the story for me was to try harder to recognise outstanding opportunities when they so rarely materialise and to not let them pass so easily

Did my apprenticship on Triumphs and British Leyland at the end of their reign (Hondas were taking over).Triumphs were by far the most high maintenace vehicles we serviced (in fact when one came in we would fuck off and hope some other poor basterd had to remove the 5,000 bolts on the bell housing to do the clutch on a three year old car!).
The rear end on those things are a bloody abortion! In saying that would I own one now? ......yep!
I'm looking to buy a pommy classic in the next few months and a Triumph (unbeleviably to those who know me!) is on my list.

And how come 3yrs old ya were taking the box out of them? all mine (heralds, vetesse's TC's and a Stag) all well over 100k on em never gave me isues from about 10yrs old

I started my apprenticeship in 1980.By far the worst was the 2000/2500 tcs they had constant wheel bearing problems and of course replacing universal joints every bloody half hour or so.
The independant rear axle was a good idea but in typical British fashion, unreliable.
Replacing clutches at 20,000 k was a regular occurrence,
The last of the TCs were (in my opinion)the pick of the bunch. The 's' model had power steer and had ironed out a lot of the clunks and driveline freeplay the earlier ones had.
The build quality compared to Honda was frankly ...shit It was competing in a market with other vehicles which were made with a different philosiphy i.e not made to rule by unions which saw the quality of the mid 70s product turn to shit which ultimately killed off a great industry.
The fuel injected models were a fucken nightmare.
I didn't have much to do with earlier heralds etc allthough we did see the odd mk1 triumph.
Allthough it sounds like I am knocking the product I am not, that is the way it was and I still would buy one..
However facts are facts and that is my experience having been at a franchise for 8 years with them.
The only thing that came along and made the Triumph look relatively well built was the SD1 Rover and thats saying something!
However, seriously I am not trying to wind you Triumph lovers up, as they had a load of good features as well which far outway the bad and NO Jap car no matter how reliable etc etc can compare with the Brit stuff.

Ok heres the wee story. I hope I haven’t built it up too much ! (any way it amuses me writing remembering this event)
Years ago we did a cng install on a Sherpa.
The owner worked around town real early in the morning doing deliveries.
Every Wednesday he would come into our workshop and say his van would not start after it had been parked on a particular hill, and he allways had to have it towed away.
The van was brand new and this went on for about four weeks, the same routine. Every Wednesday in he came getting more and more pissed off (actually he was a good bastard and never really lost the plot about it !)
We went with him on his rounds in the afternoon many times stopping at all his usual places including the “mystery” hill and never had a problem. He did all the usual things while we were with him except on a Tuesday morning run it would not start.
We spent hours and hours with him and this fucken van but could never find a fault.
We started corresponding with Leyland in the U.K saying we believed that this van had some sort of mysterious wiring fault that only occurred when the cold early morning air was prevalent and could we please have a new wiring loom under warranty. Our service manager had heard about someone in Saudi Arabia or some fucken place that had a wiring fault caused by heat so…..go figure!
We had already replaced all the ignition components completely from another new van including the ignition switch and as it was a new van we replaced all the door locks as well to match the keys I think from memory the total hours on the job was running at about 120 (no exaggeration)
We got the go ahead for a new wiring loom and fitted, it now for those who are mechanically minded you know what sort of job that is and if you are not mechanically minded it is FUCKEN BIG!
Anyway we did the wiring loom and gave the guy his van back and said well here you go it’s all good now there can be absolutely no chance that it would play up again. That was on a Thursday, we did not see him for a few days and we thought thank fuck that’s over now how the hell do we bullshit this warranty claim to try and recover some money for the time spent.
Well fuck me next Wednesday he was in again with the same fault, this time though he was asking for his money back so he could buy another type of van (still kept his cool though and did not blame us .As I said he was a good bastard).
This really got the manager going and we ended up having a meeting with the managing director, branch manger, service manager ,this customer and his lawyer.
It was decided that our service manager was to accompany this customer all week at three in the morning to see what was happening (the service manager was really pissed about this but had no choice):laugh:He went with him from Thursday morning over theweekend over the weekend until Tuesday came at 3:30am the customer pulls up outside his regular stop on Tuesdays on this hill that we had been to about 10 times and because it is dark he turns his hazard lights on.
Yup you can see what’s coming, the dumb fucker who converted it to gas wired the power circuit for the cng gas solenoid into the fucken hazard light circuit so when the hazards were turned she no power to said solenoid!
I still see that fucken van around every couple of years or so and it gives me a cold chill ( it’s like that enemy car of Mr Bean!)
So there you go good readers a classic tale of bad work on our part sometimes you overlook the obvious (I mean a new wiring loom FFS!)

I did my pre-trade certs on a A35 wagon.
Cool looking car.
In retrospective it was a stupid idea though and I should have pulled my head in and just done the panels on the rusty, simple, flat panel, falcon instead.
Nothing on the A35 was straight forward. Even the sils were a bitch - they are not simply rounded but in fact 2 slightly conicular ends with a rounded bit completing the middle.
I hated that car after the 12 weeks or whatever it was that I worked on it.
2 cars I never want to own and work with again since the courses, one was the A30/A35 the other is an XJS12.
They put me off being a mechanic or a panel beater. I HATES THEM! (actually the XJS was nice to drive, just horrible to do anything with that engine).

http://www.turners.co.nz/Auctions/Pages/Auctions-Details.aspx?scope=Products&view=VehicleCatalogue&AuctionId=23535
Not much detail up on the listings as yet, but there's some drool-worthy stuff in there - something for every taste - but particularly for the Jag / Daimler fanatics.

And exactly 140,000km? how often is a car in for a WOF with a nice round figure like that?

I suspect I had the very same model (in blue). I agree with the comments over the engine and braking. I was also able to keep up with a 2.0l Cortina, however the dampers were a little dissapointing and hence the cornering ability didn't match the power.

That's the grill. I didn't have the vinyl roof and the wheel trims were a bit more realistic than the ones in your pic, but that's the car.
Dampers should have had an extra upper arm, but adding coil-overs made all the difference, and some did that for racing. I didn't bother as mine were still in good nick and I wasn't in a hurry usually as had three young children at the time.

The six was too heavy for them and you needed to do some serious suspension work if you wanted them to go around corners. Burnouts on the other hand, were a piece of cake! Three speed manual box wasn't so good though, but the four speed couldn't handle the torque.
You could build a mean street machine by using the 3500V8 as there was plenty of room under the bonnet.
