That sounds great. See you then.
I haven't ridden much for a while so I'm asking in advance for a pass on general bike gumbyness.
Dotn panic... I only binned the L plates last month!!
I would love to come along if thats cool with you guys?
only prob is i have a 7L tank at the moment will i be ok for fuel if i fill up along the way
Awesome!.. the more the merrier... I'm sure fuel will be fine, we can fill up before we go over the hill.
Suggest we take along some lunch to eat along the way?
There's a small-ish river crossing to pass.... I checked the flow rates on ECAN site and its nice and low so all good.
If anyone else is keen to join, 10am at the Main North Road Peg on Sunday... Lock it in!

Your beta looks well set up for some good rides!!
I have set it up to suit my riding style and what I like to ride, the 500 enduro bikes make great adventure bikes being light enough that in my case what starts out an adventure ride becomes a trail ride and OH NO look a creek to ride up and that is the end of that, off I go, well I either fall off or get stuck or both at the same time, then I am glad the bike only weighs 113kgs.
The compromise is I run the soft compound Motoz tyres http://www.motomox.co.nz/shop/show_single_product.php?prod=252 which I like, they are F&$king noisey on the road but good for my purpose and on the back of the 500 I get around 2500km before the rubbish tin gets them.
The worst compromise is the seat, I think the arsehole that KTM sacked for making crap seats has been employed by Beta, I wear these and they work well http://www.motomox.co.nz/shop/show_single_product.php?prod=21
I really don't care for riding on the road but I need to get to the start line somehow so the compromises are worth while for me.

Sweet!.. We will be heading up SH1 to get to Lake Summer, I’m not sure if the Oxford/Sheffield Bridge will save you any distance from Rolly… it’s about twice as far according to google maps… So maybe meet at The Peg again? It’s a longer trip, so maybe worth leaving a little earlier for this one, is 8am doable for you tomorrow?
Hawarden looks like the last stop for fuel before the hills, then it’s about 55KM’s to the Lake… Have you been before?... Looks bloody good up there!!

My '97 XT600 is playing up with stalls under load and it's suspected it may be the coil. Does anyone have one lying around I could borrow to test?
Failing that, anyone know anywhere reputable to get a good second hand one?

What your saying sounds more like a fuel problem than electrical, have you checked the fuel flow from the tank is good, are there any fuel filters that need cleaning ect..
Have you tested the Ohms on the coil to make sure they're in spec?

Hey man, nope and nope yet, I have no idea about fuel filters but I don't think it had any. I'll pm you a link to a video I made of it happening.
How do I test coil? Because it's intermittent I doubt it'll show up as faulty anyhoo hence wanting to find a good one to try for a bit.

Hi Trailriders
Event Cancellation Pigeon Bay Sunday 1 April
Unfortunately we have to cancel the Pigeon Bay Trailride on Banks Peninsula this weekend. A trailride I know a number of people were looking forward too, the weather conditions have not been ideal with not enough rain. With it being too dry there is little grass growth at present and being a different soil type on Banks Peninsula we have to tread lightly on this area.
Next Event Beautiful Valley Trailride Sunday 17 April 2016
I'll aim to join in on the Lees ride on the 9th.

I had some "electrical issues" and Jim's a good mechanic who knows BMW's well, and has the knowledge/tools to do a good job I trust, and he came in special to open up for me :D No, there's no BMW service in the top of the south anymore, that I'm aware of. The trip's no great hardship either.
It was a good ride home, I did what I wanted to do then decided I had enough time to get home before dark, it was a somewhat "spirited" ride home too :innocent:

They are nice roads to poke round on out that way. I can recommend Random spur and Kaiwara rds next time your down there. If I'd known you were camping out in the Lewis I might not've been in such a rush to get home.

OpenGPS NZ Autorouting shows a possible link up from Starvation Gully RD out of Pidgeon to Mackintosh Bay Rd in to Menzies Bay, OpenGPS topo not so much.
Does anyone know if this route is legit ? Done it? It looks from satellite like it may just be paddocks or farm tracks certainly doable on a lightweight but access may need to be obtained, any info anyone ?

I think you'll find a lot of fences and gates if you try join that up but that may be the glass is half empty view.
Starvation gully is a cool little steepish zig zag up to a paddock at which point it kind of peters out from memory.
The google earth view makes it look like it should be easier to follow than I remember.
I'd have gone (maybe an hour later) but will be doing the Trail Ride at McDonald Downs instead.

Hi ya pouakai. It is possible to link up Lavericks Road to Goat Rock Road. It is quite a cool little track sidling a steepish hillside, albeit very short. It does cross private land on a non-official (non-paper road) so permission is needed. I have been through there twice and both times dropped in from Lavericks Road and asked at the farmer hand's house which is closest to the end of Lavericks Road; the southernmost house at the beach end if you are looking at google satellite. She was happy to let me through but did say that permission must be asked first and they are not keen on large groups going through. One of the reasons is that they have a glamping site a little way up the valley and don't want a bunch of bikes making a ruckus for their paying clients.
Have a great ride mate
Cheers

Was a beautiful autumn day on the peninsula. Had to bail early. Something was telling me to srart heading back. Sure enough, coming into little river, a flat front tyre. My first puncture on the old AT. 85000km flat free has to be good. Happened to be carrying a spare and tools. Tried to remember the technique trials rider showed us at one of josh's parties, at 21 inches it really wasn't necessary.

Hi chaps,
I know i could look on a map (and have been!) but can anyone recommend ay good circuits on Banks peninsula?
Mate and I rode around to Little River and up and over Western Valley Road - Diamond Harbour - Gov's Bay - Home and we loved it! First 'adventure ride' so to speak and despite the rain we encountered and battled through are keen for more.
Looking for more good circuits to go on.. We both have Enduro style bikes (Husaberg + WR) so not the longest range (8L tank) and minimum standard (ie knobbliest) road legal knobblies on so prefer as much shingle and avoid the tarmac as much as possible - wouldnt mind backtracking to meet petrol stations, fuel dump if need be!
Just really looking for some good advice on routes.
cheers all, might see you on the trails

29th June 2016, 21:15
I was going to say welcome to KB but I see you've been around for 6 months already so it's probably already been said.
Looking specifically on Banks Peninsula then any combination involving Bossu Road.
A little further a field but not the Peninsula, Lees Valley is nice, but stay on the road, all cool looking hills on the side of the road are private land (pretty much applies everywhere in NZ) and being seen riding up farmers hill sides just makes it harder to impossible to gain access permission to the cooler stuff behind locked gates.
The CCC (Christchurch/Culveden/Cheviot) loop we've been talking about for this weekend has some cool stuff in it. About 300km round trip but about 100km to 150km at a guess is sealed.
As enthusiastic new ADVers, for yours, mine and others safety please remember they may be dirt or gravel but they are still two way traffic roads, so please don't be those guys coming sidewise round the bend only to discover us, a Farm vehicle, tourist van, 4x4 or sidewise twat coming head on with no where to go. That shit hurts.
And the map... with it all laid out... www.remotemoto.com (http://www.remotemoto.com/).
If signing up the Members accounts are for those who don't want to share or contribute to the site, the Rider accounts are for people willing to share info like reviews on your tyres, luggage, riding/camping gear or what have you in exchange for detailed route info etc. Share something to get something.

I probably sound like a stuck record, I'd like to go but don't really have the time this month.
Views inland should be quite nice nearing the river edge facing the mountains.
Like to do Dalethorpe trailride too but alas, not this time. Think I'm probably a bit out of shape for it right now anyway.

My friend and I went up Worsley's track this afternoon, me on the WR him on his DR350. What a knarly track!! We got to this slippery clay hill climb, decided our street tyres weren't good enough, then turned around.

Went up Huntsbury track today, then over to Lyttleton, and Taylor's Mistake.
I'm looking forward to putting some 17" rims with a cush drive on the bike to make it a bit more road-friendly. I have a 1988 CBR1000F front and a 1990 CBR600F rear that are going on it eventually.
Two sets of rims will be nice, one for off-road, one for on-road!

Hey guys, not a ride invitation but this seemed better than making a new thread.
I'm overseas at the moment and have just been reading about the new Adventure Park by Worsleys. The place looks awesome, but I'm wondering if the old Worsleys 4wd track is still open to the public? Good place to play around. Cheers.

Yes, it's still intact. The bottom was a bit different last visit with what appears to be more carparking area just up from the first gate but think that was more to do with the logging been done recently next to the track rather than anything to do with the new park which I think is further in to the valley next to Worsleys.
Actually looking for better maps it kind of looks like it could go all the way out to the fence line next to Worsleys, be interesting to keep an eye on that.

Yes that river crossing is probably a little hairy right now..
Maybe a run up in to the gravel roads in the hills by little river?

Sounds like fun to me. I need to reassemble my bike first....ended up disassembling the entire rear end in order to remove a broken rear fender bolt, and thought I should make a tail tidy, and clean up the subframe, and replace some bolts,.. too easy to get carried away

I will be keen to do the inland Kaikoura rd when they open it in a week or so assuming you will be able to buy gas there then. I am picking it will be a bit of an adventure ride too.
The Inland Kaikoura Rd is tar-seal, I went up that way last Sunday on the busa for lunch, but with all the trucks going in and out by that road it's probably all chewed up so an adventure bike would be the way to go.
Had a great ride yesterday hope you guys enjoyed yourself also.
I'm thinking about heading up and doing Edwards and Mailings Pass if anyone is keen.

Up Worsley's, along Summit rd, to Little River, up Reynolds valley and back around to Little River, up a stock route to the top of the first Akaroa GP section, to Barry's Bay and back to Little River, then over a gravel road to Port Levy, through Purau, over to Dyer's Pass road, then home! What is Worsleys spur like to ride up?
Usually, easier than to ride down. It's steep and rutty - sometimes very rutty, and desperately slippery when wet.
In other words, good fun on the right bike with the right tyres.

SAECOWilson, 39B Gasson St, Sydenham for good bearings. Get the marine ones, sealed both sides. Phone:03-379 3732.
As for an engineer for spacers, I've personally only replaced a couple and bought stock ones to do it but there are lots of potential engineering places around.
Might be free to ride this weekend if I manage to get this tree stump at home up out of the ground first.

Actually don't specifically remember the bottom of that one, I do remember the top though as I usually decend it.
It could be the Robinsons Bay track that is tricky from the bottom although you'll get dead ends eventually if you do make a wrong turn, possibly on to private land though.
Finally put Rego on the bike so guess I should do some actual riding instead of just talking about it. :shit: mmm, Sunday.
