Mate could you make me some apehangers to go with those?
I went for a blat round the forest in the rain for an hour or so today. Shit I had fun. The KLR was just great & it's easier somehow in the rain (apart from clay of course)
Funnily enough I was thinking of getting some higher risers for mine toady as well as figuring how to shift the footpegs back.

Been away up North all week (in the Pug with the famile) so no riding. Weather was absolute bollocks anyway, I pitied the fools I saw getting drenched. I didn't get passed by a single bike, such pussies.
Cased out some great central NTh Island roads for the next trip.

Just took the re-engined GB out for its first ride. Smoooth, but the gearchange is very clunky. It was fine when I test-rode it on the parts bike, so I'm going to swap out the gearchange lever mechanism and see what happens. I think that was Nordie I saw as well on Main road stoke/Waimea Rd?
I'm thinking maybe the clutch needs a bit of an adjust. And the clutch cable might need a bit of WD40 down it. Shed night things!

Took the afternoon off and went for a ride over Dovedale hill and turned off Sunday creek and did the panic mac? track. Very slippery wet pine needles (I fell down). :argh: They have been doing a lot of tree stuff in there and there were some awesome side tracks and cool hills to go up and down with lots of rocky ditches (I fell down again). :argh::argh:
Got completely lost following lots of tracks which all seemed to have fallen trees across them. Eventually ended up on this cool wide flowing gravel road with some awesome feet up slidey corners on it. I thought I was near Tapawera, but the road came out at the top of Dovedale hill and was one of the roads that is always locked up. Lotsa good riding up there and no sign of contractors as harvesting seems finished and new planting has gone in etc.
The klr for some reason is running so good at the moment, and with the ims tank and barkbusters is an absolute pleasure to fall off .ie nothing shatters into a million pieces.
Sorry no pics, was havin too much fun.

It seems the GB's new engine's clutch slips at high revs. Not too bad at the moment, but it will get worse, right? I'm assuming it needs new clutch plates (I've heard you can get stiffer springs, but the clutch is fairly heavy as it is).
Is this something one of you clever people could help me do, if I got the bits? Also need fork seals attending to. Anyone keen to help? Shed night?

Just a timely reminder for caution to all of us who ride the Mangatapu Track....especially anyone heading over in next day or so.
There could well be Police accident investigators working or increased traffic involved in recovering the 4wd from the river, after the fatal 4WD accident in there yesterday avo. RIP young fella.
Prolly best to keep away from there for a couple of days to let them do their jobs.
It's a great recreational riding area, and hope this unfortunate accident doesn't impact on future access up there.

I've seen homemade signs up there to the effect of "Rip up the grass verges and we'll F..CKIN have ya! You are being filmed." Maybe that's what the camera is about. My guess is the locals (or council) is sick of boyracers carving the place up.
I had to take evasive action on me bike not long ago when a young dickhead came round the corner fishtailing it in his piece of shit Toyota. I turned around, followed him and gave him a bollocking when he pulled over.

Got sick of waiting for the CDI to arrive, so bought a toy in the mean time. a 2003 Suzuki SMX 50, she's quite peaky, but getting the hang of it. Tyres are Michelin M39s so not great for off road. Will hunt down some MT60s if it passes the reliability trials!
This means I'm getting rid of the Shanyang as there's a limit to how many mopeds a man should own at one time...if anyone is interested let me know. After riding the SMX I'm pretty certain that the Shanyang is 90/110 cc but registered as a moped, and with no casting labels...

Did you have a site specific safety plan and were you aware of any hazards that exist or potentially exist, also had you filled out your monthly incident summary and filled in a hazard register. have you done a monthly safety audit and pinned it on the wall next to your special HS&fucken E wall planner.
If you had done all of that you would never have fallen on your ass.

Kia ora lil people.
Time to organise the xmas end of year thing. It's coming pretty quick so thought I'd get onto it unless someone else has already thought of something..
Ideas?
Ride to Hori bay via Maunga & bbq here on the way back? (Atawhai)
Longish ride & meet at pub?
Mid week evening or weekend avo?
Do it online via computor? set up webcams & everyone decorate their pcs with tinsel etc?

bbq out there would be in the true spirit of adv, but atawhai has the advantage of all the mod cons - thanks for offering.
Date? Time is more important; need to be home by 7pm to put the wee lad to bed. So arvo is probably better.

It can be either depending on whether you & Jatz have to work so if Jatz is good for Sat what are you like?
Went for a evening cruise out to Hori bay last nite. The sun setting over the western ranges thru the kanuka was a soul soothing scene. The road has been graded so was very smooth however the 1st rain will make it a slippery snot surface.
I had the front wheel wash out on a really slow corner resulting in me having to hold the bike & blow my fufu valve again so may just have a road ride this weekend. (funny how I put the tyre pressures up to extend the life of the tyres yet on gravel they''l be the thing to shorten my life - gotta get priorities right:laugh:)

Spent a bit of time in the shed with me dad today, he's 80 in a few days and it was like old times when we used to rebuild the IT after each race, and did you know that there is no bike built that was better than his AJS 7R that he fitted aeroplane forks to. Now thats farkling.:2thumbsup

Bugger, the moral of the story is that I should spend my life on KB...bought one from Repco $25, it's not actually the fault, basically all the lighting wiring has been replugged incorrectly, 2 hours later all fixed - just have to disconnect it again and stick...I'll bet I was paying $65/hour for the boy to have a play :argue:
Upside is, I now also have a spare electronic flasher.... :whocares:

I'm Ba-a-a-a-a-aaaaaaaaaaaack!! :scooter:
Finally got the bike back together today, been for a short strop up to the top of the Whangamoa's tonight. She's running really crisp :2thumbsup
I've also had a communiqué from CollieDog (Blenheim) who is keen to meet up for some rides, esp. Rainbow/Molesworth on 1st/2nd Jan.
In the coming weeks, I'd like to re-visit Mahakipawa Reserve, Wairoa Gorge, and spend some time doing some gnarly stuff in Sharlands/Hira - gotta get back in to the swing of things on the big beast, in preparation for the Tekapo Tamer. Sing out if you want to join in.

I rode over the whangamoas this arvo as well, over to Okiwi bay. Weather was miserable when I went over, vis was terrible on the high bits on the way to Okiwi. Cleared right up when I got back through Hira.

I can re-arrange some of my staff to suit my riding needs so some day next week (tue, wed, thur or fri ) would be easiest for me .
I really need to do some k's prior to the dusty to see if any of my farkles work and to scrub in the new tyres.

I noticed you have redundant [IMG] tags, too, so I suspect you are copying photobucket's "IMG Code" link, but pasting it into the forum's IMG URL dialog... you only need to do one or the other, the point of photobucket's "IMG Code" is so that you just paste that code in to the message, no need to invoke the forum's image dialogue. That in itself will halve your effort straight away.
Stop in some time, or I can pop around to yours, I can give you a quick lesson.

Looks to be a softer compound than the K760 but may also be due to the power delivery of the XR vs DR.
The knobs were scrubbed up further down the knob than on mine but they may be just flexing under acceleration more.
Although I seem to remember them as having more meat to the knobs than the Kenda?

You'll be fine with that tyre if you're only going to St Arnaud and back, I can't see canvas showing yet! Nowhere we're riding is too technical requiring full knobblies, mostly just gravel roads with a couple of short 4wd dirt tracks. Should be dry tomm morn according to Metvuw rain forecast.

The three intrepid travellers, Underground, Mountie and Woodman were safely seen off down the road to St Arnaud by Froggy and Fluffycat this morn, after a nice little jaunt through the woods. Quite a lot of fog around the Spooner Tops which made the ride fun, but didn't do much for the views. Blue Glen Rd was all clear and we all enjoyed a good blast through there, no-one had any whoops, so no kodak moments.
It looks like logging may be starting down there soon, as we encountered one track in there blocked off with "Road Closed - Tree felling" sign, so area most likely to be off limits for a while. No chainsaw weilding maniacs to be seen tho.
The weather looked good for the boys heading down through the Rainbow, hope you boys have a great ride further south.:2thumbsup

Well done for getting the license. Now tell your old man to have a very late midlife crisis & get a bike too.

Nice one Brock! Good on ya. Not getting a dirt bike then?
I knocked off early from flying today to replace the bearings and seals in my rear wheel and sprocket carrier. Just got to get one more o-ring for the carrier and I'm good to go. Just mounted a new T63 tyre and amping to go for a ride. Pretty happy I was able to do it all myself. Anyone give me some tips on breaking it in before I go to hard out on the road? I love to lean it over but have never owned a new tyre before so not so sure how to go about it. Would taking it for a gravel ride scrub it in?

Be careful on the road for the first few ks as new tyres have preservative on them and are slippery. a wee gravel hoon is good for scrubbing them in, but to be honest I don't really understand scrubbing in but do it anyway to look like I know what I am doing.
Does this help??
