Ixion, What you have described is nothing more than some peoples prejudices, and not just by the Police. I dunno you, but maybe you just are not all that good at first impressions or something. It could be just you they don,t warm to not all motorcyclists. Personally I have never had experiences like yours, whether out on the bike or not.
And the Police here in nelson are not picking on or messing with motorcyclists rights, they are just pulling over a certain type of vehicle that operates on the roads they patrol.
The operators of these vehicles can describe themselves as all sorts of things, motorcyclists being just one of them.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Here's another observation that's just occurred to me.
Over the years I guess I've averaged about 90% of miles on two wheels, 10% on four wheels.
Now, I've not had many tickets in that time : 3 minor speeding tickets (all 110-120), one years ago for no WoF, another years ago for similar (bald tyre maybe, I was a poor student), one loopy ticket for something like not displaying a blue light when towing (some such, that only an old school snake would know about - my father paid that one, I was towing him home, as you do), and another one that I can't remember what for , but something minor.
So, not a big rap list for over 40 years.
The interesting thing is, that despite the 90% two wheel split , ALL of those were in a car. I've never (touch wood, I know this is tempting fate) had a ticket on a bike .
But, conversely, I'd say I get pulled over "just for a routine check" on average maybe three times a year . But I've NEVER been pulled over for a "routine check" in a car.
So, I get more tickets in cars than bikes, despite a vastly greater bike mileage. But more "routine checks" on bikes. So how does all that compute with unbiased policing. (I must admit I don't actually know - but logically it should all be proportional)

EDIT: I'm only counting actual tickets not warnings.

Exactly how often would you be happy with being pulled over before you considered you were being harassed ?
Once a year ?
Once a month ?
Once a week ?
5 times on one ride ? (as happened to a group of bikers in your area a few weeks back ?)
How many times would you have to be pulled over before you became "safe" ?
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.
I have no problem with being pulled over and ticketed if I'm breaking some law . Not going to be a happy camper that day, but fair enough, the law's the law, you break it you accept the consequences.
I don't have any problem with general checks, stopping all vehicles . If I'm caught with no rego , or WoF , or whatever , well, fair enough, that's the risk you take
I have somewhat more of a problem with being pulled over just for being a motorcyclist - but not enough to bunch my panties.
But I'd have a very big problem indeed , and severely bunched panties, with being pulled over for the crime of being middle aged. And even more so for the crime of , apparently, having a "mid life crisis".
Last time I looked , neither of those were crimes. So using them as a basis for stopping motorcyclists (or anyone else, but apparently only motorcyclists get middle aged or have mid life crises) is another example of the police making up the law to suit themselves.

I am not saying that it will make me feel safer at all, or that it will work for that matter. What I am saying is that the Police probarbly have KPI's just like any other organisation and if there is an anomoly, generally a targetted, (not a blanket )response is used to correct the anomoly. I really don't think they have sat at a meeting and decided that they will target motorcyclists because they think they are not nice people.

I rode around for hours yesterday and didn't get stopped oncedidn't even see a cop
so it's not as bad as it may seem
