They have done that for several years at Christmas

Keeping the traffic at 80 and pissing off some f'witt who can't pass up the passing lane? Said f'witt pulls out in a blind corner and hits a group of bikes, or dogs, or a hotdog stand, regardless it's going to be interesting.
The lanes are closed every long weekend / public holiday SH1 from Wellington. It adds to the frustration.
    Here for the ride.

I didn't know that, I never ride SH1 as it's a boring turd of a ride below the Desert Rd, even that's not that fun now.

In the paper last week was an atricle about some researcher who found out that the weather and fuel prices have more effect than penalties during a holiday weekend.

Wasn't it shithouse weather on Queens Birthday weekend and fine on Labour Day?

    3) Race up the center and speed limit be dammed?
Having ridden/driven to Wanganui on xmas day for the last three years I can tell you that there is barely any traffic at all once you get of SH1, which for me will be either Pokeno or Ngaruawahia.

Even leaving Auckland on SH1 it is usually better than your average weekday traffic at any rate.

I spent the whole ride last year marginally under licence losing speeds for the most part, never saw a single orrificer except on SH1 near Papakura. Not gonna take the same risk this year though. I'm gonna leave early and pootle down and enjoy the afternoon with extended family.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

    + 1000000000000000.

My sentiments exactly + my speedo is out by approx. 8 km/h at 100 kays (not shure).

Don't speed if you can't afford it.

I've had 3 speeding tickets over 13 years of speeding and averages out to $60 a year.... thats cheap
Agreed. Why waste money on pointless fines when you can use it for petrol, track-days, better gear etc etc...

I got an infringement once on my previous bike downhill in a 50km/h zone - a simple lapse in concentration dammit. The cop apologized for issuing the ticket. I told him I would let him off this once but told him not to repeat such behaviour.

I guess the Police also need to consider why in fact we do move at a particular speed.

Otherwise they could reduce the number of accidents and fatalities by making the speed limit zero.

    Easy huh?

At least the AA have said they want Police to focus on drivers who go to slow and don't allow others to pass

Speed is always a factor. Run off the road due to a corner and speed is a factor. Inappropriate speed, but "inappropriate" is a big word and journalists don't do big words just in case it turns the semi-literate readership off.

There are always at least 2 truths...
Part of the truth = speed
ALL of the truth = inappropriate speed
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Yeah but try telling somebody their speed was 'inappropriate'...
