And no wet weather gear, just another pair of jeans. These days people struggle for ''The Look'', and pay huge money for it, in those days the look just happened through dishevelment. I think I may have even invented a look - I had a ruined leather jacket, studs and everything (found it somewhere) but with a broken zip, and I also had a cut off DJ that wouldn't do up over the jacket....so I got some dog collars (don't remember what happened to the dogs) and bolted them to the DJ, I couldn't sew, but I knew bolts. I would wrap the double breasted leather jacket across my body, and buckle the 3 straps to close the DJ, crude but it worked for years. I laugh now when I see people with vests over their leather jacket done up with straps and buckles.

And you are still making the same mistake: Judging a group of 70's riders by 2012 "values". It will never work. I agree: The group that is portrayed in these two videos would not have fitted in as they were today in 2012. But then it was 1970. 40 years ago. Much has changed. Including the bikie scene. For better or worse? We all have our opinion.

No I'm not. I was judging a group of retards that weren't very smart by today's or yesterdays standards. They were scrawny looking lightweights that would've got a fucking hiding by anyone that they tried to piss on had it not been for the numbers they cruised in.
I may not be as old as yourself...but I've been around a while and seen a fair bit. I was born in 1966, and started riding motorcycles in 1976. I've not been without one since. I've ridden with gansters and top road racers/moto-x'ers in that time.
I didn't state the 'bikie scene' is better or worse now that it was then. What I did say is the guys in the film clip came across as try hard wankers.
We clearly see the vids in a diffrenet light. I did see a snapshot from the past (that belongs there) of a group of guys with 1970's bikes and 1970's values making a stand against the society in 1970. They were accepted as HA by the Americans in the 70's, and rest (as they say) is history.
(For the record, when I see pics of my self from the 70's and 80's I cringe. Luckily nobody has a recording of my opinions from then...)
Meh... Growing up in ChCh and riding british bikes in the 70's you were always going to come in contact with that scene.
I was lucky in that my rebellion didnt cost me a skilled trade or break down any family links. The difference between what the guys in the gangs were doing and what we were doing was however enormous. Their world was more violent and less free. We didn't have presidents and any structure we just did what we wanted and rode our bikes a lot.
The gear questions a goodie. Motorcycle gear was REALLY expensive relative to wages so much of the 'look' was based on making do with what you could get cheap (in my case)... I still remember riding to the cold kiwi in a pair of 'ski' overalls my gf made for me (made from some pattern her sister found). Looked bloody awful but worked a treat but not exactly HA clobber...
Yes - modern gangsters are looking meaner but comparatively to the times those guys were plenty mean and feared. But then they were a lot younger than todays gangsters. 17 or 18 compared to 35 so yeah - they don't have quite the same meat on their bones
Here's the British version from 1973: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng8Ll...=results_video
Yeah ... 'twas ... but fuck it was fun ...
I've still got the two-pair of jeans and a cut off denim jacket in my shed .. and an old army great coat I ued to ride in ..
Yeah ... they are now ... why I don't ride with them any longer ... fucking dicks ...
