Whether somebody puts an Egli in the paddock doesn't have any bearing on whether this bike is being put at risk or not.
On the contrary... if the major parts (frame, block) of this bike differ from those that won the TT, then this isn't even the same bike, and then has become nothing more than curio, and not at face value worth the asking. Otherwise what is to stop the builder popping another out, with no more than a single part that was at the TT, and then selling that as 'original'?
What is considered 'major parts', and where the line is drawn between "yes it's that bike", or "no it's now something else", has to be at the discretion of the buyer, of course.
I'm not surprised... you can't have your cake and eat it. You either want to keep it original and a worthy artifact thus you garage/display/preserve it, or bugger the heritage and you race it as the good lord intended. The latter would be my preferred option; as I mentioned before, the people who appreciate this haven't got that many years left... and after that, who will really appreciate it? That and it's a bike, not a painting.
It was that it can't be both a play toy and a piece of history worth preserving. That of course is wrong when considered literally, of course you can race it even though it's a piece of history worth preserving!
Of course once you fuck it, it's longer something you can race, or preserve. Is that a tragedy or just the way of it? Depends on your perspective and only the man putting the money down gets to decide that...
My perspective is that given those that care aren't going to be here forever, why not thrash it.
The car guys make the bike guys look like amateurs. We see a bit of F5000 racing here, but the priceless artefacts that get raced overseas is absolutely astonishing. They work on the theory that it will always be worth repairing, because it will never cost as much to fix as it is worth.
U tube a bit of historic car racing & have a look for yourselves.
a guy I know who raced an historic open wheeler (a small one - formula junior) had a mate with a f5000, and his theory was every time you walk past it in the garage put ten grand on the seat because you will spend that every time it turns a wheel.....
They are fabulous machines though.

If it weren't for flashbacks...I'd have no memory at all..
