Which exposes them to risk in an emergancy stop situation. If their habit is to only use the rear, the black mark leading to the point of impact will tell a story.

On the Harleys I've had the rear brake was only ever used on (a) emergency stop or (b) on a long slowing downhill/slightly loose surface.

Despite the 'Harley brakes are crap' crows I locked up the front on a dry sealed surface when trying to avoid a sheep that ran out on front of me unexpectedly - enough to have smoke coming off the front tyre according to those behind me.

Often notice the cruiser bikes only have 1 brake disk on the front.

noticeable effect on cruisers using just rear brake.

Seeing this thread, reminds me to do some more brake practise.
stopping from speed should be practised as well as controlled steering during that time.
just replaced both sets of brake pads front and rear, much better.

more confident that I might be able to slow down whilst steering.

Single disc on front of a cruiser is fine, weight bias means rear brake does more work anyway.

Hard reality is that unless someone has been trained how to brake properly, and practices regularly, then stopping distances grow quite a bit. So under pressure it's basically "oh-shit-kinda-braking" as opposed to a controlled stop

If I can bring my hefty FJR to a halt from 100 in under 35 metres yet ol mate on his Farley takes twice as much distance...it is simply the operator skill/training/practice that makes the difference

I'm not 100% sure if I'm qualified to comment though being an upholder of the standard and perhaps a tad too passionate about road safety on 2/4 and more wheels

And "No Grip" in the tires ... probably isn't a valid legal excuse.

You are obviously not aware of your conditions. Desol spills are relitively easy to spot because of all those pretty colors and from a ditance it is normally darker than the tarmac.. So is pee gravel if you have slowed down enough at an intersection. Of course there is always trhe posiblity of the vehicle ahead obscuring them but then you are following far too close.

It might not but that is what still makes up a large portion of every tyre, both synthetic and natural rubbers
