Noted by many there that this was "stoopid". Noted that same rider had earlier bollocked another rider for not following the "rules" around "last rider" protocol at turn offs etc

This rider also has a bad habit of riding hands-off which scares the shit out of me ... better hope no emergency stop needed let a lone a fookin' pot hole."

There have been more.........this attempts to remove the doubt around my comments about what happened today.
I guess we are all polite that we don't want to give/receive a rark up in public. We are not an official club, we don't have any official rules and I guess we are just a bunch of bikers that enjoy each others company/ideals etc.

Key point here is that when you are new you tend to look up to those you see as more experienced and try to emulate them.

Some of the riding behaviour today was a bit of a shocker (blind corner overtakes, way over the limit at some points etc) and I was just as guilty as others

We have all done dumb shit and most of us get away with it most of the time.

One of the points that mom is making is that this behaviour is unacceptable in front of any-one including the public (are we not trying to improve our image?) and also impressionable new folk.

How would we feel if any new person did the same thing and was creamed by a car with no helmet on?

We all need to take stock and consider the possible implications of our behaviour.

    Interesting thread...

There appears to be two issues at stake here: One: 'should safety gear be worn at all times while riding a bike'? Two: 'should a rider display behaviour that suggests control of a bike at all times'?

The law states that helmets are compulsory in this country while riding on public roads so one could safely say that not wearing a helmet while riding on an open road is illegal and cannot be condoned regardless of the circumstances.

While road racing in this country you will be fined and possibly told to leave if you even try and jump start your bike without a helmet on.

So, by law, the action in the photo is illegal, common sense also suggests it's stupid.

My personal opinion is that helmets should always be worn when riding a bike. The choice to wear other protective gear is completely up to the individual by law in this country and although my personal opinion suggests it should be worn at all times, this is also up to the individual.

As for the second issue - that one can be debated until the cows come home but I would suggest that there is a time and a place for stunting. Legally, again, I suspect that there is a risk that a charge of dangerous driving can be made in cases such as the picture suggests.

So, no helmet = individual at risk of head injury

stunting = potential risk of harm to others as well as self if it all goes pear shaped.

I suggest that any rider needs to think carefully about their choice of attire and behaviour in public, and it seems as in this case when they are at risk of public lynching...
    Exploring pastures anew...

    F#ing disgusting

I'm really fuming - leave Crashe the BEEP alone. She's a good lass, she has bloody feelings just like the rest of you. How would you like to be picked apart on a thread. If you have a problem with someone for whatever reason - talk to them. Don't make judgements about people when you don't know the context.

Crashe, you rock as a person. Don't take the shit spewed up to heart.

To everyone else - it's her life. If she wants to ride from the petrol station to the chippy with no lid or protection - that's her choice. I'd wear gear, but again - THATS HER CHOICE. Leave her alone and go find something else to do.

Mom - if you've got a problem with Crashe - go talk to her - don't do it like this.

I'm not encouraging people to ride without gear, I'm upset at a mate being ripped to pieces on this thread.

Why is there no outcry thread about this? Surley high speed blind corner over taking etc is highly dangerous?

This thread just seems a bit like a "witch hunt" - and no crashe Im not saying you are a witch... but you guys know what I mean... lots of dangerous stuff went on... none of which newbies should be doing.

Ok, I assumed it would be obvious what I was talking about, but it appears not.
This is (though I couldn't get the nested quoting to work, so some of it's out of context):

    Agreed.

Still waiting for someone to post the names of the other alleged miscreants who were going to/from the servo sans helmets...

Seems memories have faltered after a hard days riding... I've heard that can happen dontchaknow...

No. I don't condone it before someone decides to have a go, I just like a bit of balance... after all, balance is a big part of biking.

Me too, leave her alone Mom unless you are going to come around here on your OWN bike and teach me. She has never said do this, do that. JUST BACK OFF!!!!

Sounds like there is more serious things to consider than what crashe was or wasn't wearing.
How many bikes went down & why ?
Why was there 'stoopid shit' happening on a so called mentor ride in the first place?
This ride was supposed to be for 250's & others @ a sensible pace. What happened to change that ???

My take on the pic is.....i dont beleive she was showing that i was ok to ride a motorcycle in this manner. Its what crashe does (first time i have seen it done helmetless) There are so many that disagree with some of the antics performed at times by someone of crashe's status as a KB memeber and perhaps (and i hope) that she takes it on board. You know when one (or several) of your mates die in a bike accident?.... ya kinda wish you could have told them how much you care while you could! And told them to pull thier head in while they were still around, not saying that this will be the eventual outcome, but, food for thought....

Sorry folks but this sort of thing really gets my MOM blood boiling. Maybe this should be in Rant or Rave......if so apologies to the mod that has to move it, and thanks for the infraction points in advance.

I really do not think that this is appropriate at all! (On private property, closed road, among like minded silly buggers then different story, or even out and about with others that get off on that sort of thing) but on a 250 themed ride, pitched for all comers but encouraging new riders out and about? Give me strength!!

No apologies here Crashe, I have struggled all along with the "I am wearing a t-shirt and no gloves cos it is too hot! or the sure I will teach you to ride no hands ma!"

Yes I acknowledge all the good work you do with newbies, more than I for sure, but seriously, In my mind this sort of stuff belongs on other rides, not newbie ones!

By all means ride the way YOU chose to. But please do not Mentor "our KB newbies" by showing off!

    Rant over.
    Where you there? No

There is NO excuse! This angers me, goes for anyone who does this kinda thing, it displays stupidity, and its gives the rest of us bikers a bad name. You'd only have yourselfs to blame if you bin and stuffed your head, you only have one look after it.

If you have the gear wear it, and wear it with pride as ya bikers!

    This is not mentor material.

Im curious to know if the road was officially closed to take this pic.

Was I there? No, thats why I am staying out of it. If it was an issue it should have been discussed at the time with the people involved. Not dragged up on KB for all and sundry who were not there to throw their two cents into the ring. Personally I am more concerned about the three guys that binned today!

Very well said! In fact you spoke my mind better than I did!

Being a KB mentor comes with responsibility... stuff like that should not happen on a mentor ride.... this is where people should be teaching newbies good/safe riding practices...

No excuses, if ya on the road on two wheels or one wear a lid its that simple. Weather its a bicycle mini moto or what ever.

    Farken 'ell....pass the cotton wool!!!

Who cares if someone decides to not wear the appropriate safety gear (who decides what is appropriate anyway?).

KB members seem to be more and more about complaining pussies that would rather whine on about someone else not meeting their strict safety requirements than getting out an enjoying a ride.

For those of you that have had a moan on this thread...If I'm ever on a ride with you please introduce yourself...and I'll take a glove off or something and then you'll be able to start a ranty thread about me.

    Jesus Christ, farken 'ell!

I`m sure this is not a witch hunt, I think bikers just want to say that experienced riders should`nt ride in that fashion , but that this one individual did ,as did others in front of noobies ,so don`t look at one person look , at every ride you have been on (noobies excluded) I`ve gone on rides and my speedo says 240kms/h ( give or take 140kms /h for legal reasons)and no one says boo , so we all do something we should`nt . But I do have my gear on ( Where`s Kitty?)
