Just an idea... lots of media as passing all tv and most radio buildings.....down side is lights but not alot of foot trafic
This is the best route I think that has been bought up yet.... Can we get some support behind getting the route changed to something like this?

Someone actually needs to take their bike on these suggested routes to make sure a few hundred bikes wont have a problem negotiating them. Queen St still has road works going on the last time I was there.

I dont mind going for a ride!

    I don't mind going for a ride...

    However!

I have travelled this route so many times not funny!

Head South down Motorway from start point!

Get off motorway at Nelson street
    Turn right onto Wellesley Street
    Turn Right up Queen Street
Get to top of Queen st, turn left into K Rd
    Straight across Grafton Bridge
    Straight across onto Park Road
    Right into Domian Drive

    Problems:

Queens Street has road works, Wellesley Str will bypass most of them.

9 Sets of lights to get police to hold traffic

Grafton Bridge is one lane, but so is most roads heading to Domain.

    Good Points:

Nelson street is 3 lanes into Wellesley which is 3 lanes into Queen which is 2 lanes

Big public display without being over the top, or dangerous!

Easy to follow & well sign posted:

Are you volunteering? Please remember people that this initial protest ride was organised at short notice to try capitolize on the initial media interest. Anyone participating in this should be doing so because they feel strongly about removing these barriers, not because they are looking for an entertaining day out. Those of us involved so far are putting in long hours behind the scenes researching, organizing, co-ordinating, while we still work full time/study/have family etc. We are relying on you all to make your signs, armbands etc. We are working late every night to try get the petition ready for signing at the final destination point, surely that would help stop us looking like "doods on bikes". Much more organised events will come later when we have time for planning. Maybe even another protest ride with higher profile??? if its supported???

I have the names of some cops who are very posibly in a position to help with traffic etc. No promisies until I've had a talk to them and I would really prefer a route to be set first. Times running out but I'm not gonna look like a wally and discredit the issue we are protesting by getting help then changing the plans on them. I am not able to make the ride but am happy to kiss the right asses to see what help we can get with the traffic lights etc. Another idea might just to get some tidy fluro vests and cones and if it looks professional just stop the cars outselves for 5 mins. I've climbed some very pulic buildings in daytime and if your in your shorts and t shirt people stare, put a flashing light on your van, cordon off the footpath and no-one questions you. Solid route please.
I'm selling my new riding gear!! Only worn a few times get a deal Kiwibikers!!

If we can't get police help to stop traffic at lights, we can't have a route with too many traffic lights. 100-200+ bikes trying to make their way through lights with other traffic isn't going to work.

So we'll need a possible visible route if we get a police escort.

and a fall-back route if we don't that just gets us from the motorway to the domain.

Some of the organizers are meeting tonight and will try and decide on this.

    Hey guys,
Just to let you know we all really appreciate what you are doing with putting so much time into organising all of this . I hope none of the suggestions that have been made sound like us bitching, I guess we are all just very eager for it to work out. Good luck with the meeting tonight!

    Cheers!

Most visble way from motorway to Domain is off at Khyber Pass. Turn right, left at first lights (Park Road I think). Then right at next lights and left into Domain. Even if some of the riders have to stop, they should be able to see where the others have gone. Just a pointer on the two corners.

Agree with having pointers. Having enough riders to act as pointers for each intersection where riders need ta turn would be great.
