Good on ya for keeping your focus mate! And trying to judge someone else's skill level without ever having seen them ride is rather pretentious IMHO.

If I was going to buy a brand new mid-range sportsbike I reckon I'd go for the 675! If I was looking at something with a couple of years of use it would be either a 675 or a zx636r...

But then again, the zx7rr is enough sportsbike for me for now - so will probably look at getting motardish bike for commuting.

As for the thous - yeah, they are faster and they are bigger... However, is a thou going to be more fun for YOU? And is it going to be that more fun that it's worth the cost (both acquisition and maintenance - I'm specifically thinking tyres here).

hehe, yeah Im not really all that worried about tires. If I do get a literbike what I'll prolly end up doing is getting some duel compound sport touring tires for it with a little more tread life ounce I burn through the break in tires..........I can always save the super sticky rubber for the track.

One of my friends recently switched to a dual compound sport touring tire for his 600 and he's pretty happy with it so far. He puts huge miles on his bike commuting so it makes sense for him.

As for the 636......Im thinking of that bike also. I almost bought a 636 as my first 600 and ended up going for a used CBR instead. Always kinda wished I had bought the 636. Now might be a good time to try one.

I've ridden the 675 before. Its a nice bike but they havnt updated the damn thing in awhile. If I decided on a 675 I'd waite until '09 to see what they do with it...if anything.

I kinda like it. If I were gonna go old school like that I'd more likely source out a good 1997 Kawasaki Zx-7.......I've always wanted one of those. I'd even go for something earlier like a '91 if I could actually find one in good condition. So far I've only seen one example that was in perfect condition and the guy wasnt selling it for anything. .
    +1 vote for the 97 ZX-7R

It first came out in 2006 mate, it's not like it's an old machine... And I don't think there's anything that needs fixing btw - at least that's the impression I got.

Some would argue that they should stop updating it and go back a step... The 5th Generation gets rave reviews.
I do like my 6th Gen though.

I'd say go for a litre bike, my vote being the 08 ZX10R.

I also wouldn't bother with half the people here since, according to them, having a litre bike means we are compensating for small penises... Irrespective of the fact that they make daily rides SO much easier due to the extra torque...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, A litre bike makes more torque from around 4000rpm, than most 600's make at all...

Edit: Ultimately, it would depend on what you want out of the ride. If you enjoy the screaminess of the engine and working the gearbox, then a 600 may be better. If you feel you want to try being a bit smoother and less frantic, a litre bike would do that. Certainly, I was quite surprised how easy it was to ride the same pace on the bigger bike....

But then you'll know what it's like due to riding them....

Why not just buy a V-twin then?

Because to me, they sound wrong...

They just don't sound right when revved, they lack the aggressive scream. And that's a personal preference...

I know people who just don't get inline fours, because to them, they sound wrong...

I voted 848 coz before too long everyone and his dog will have a 1098.

The performance of the 848 will still be a bundle of fun after the R6 and I find riding a smaller engined bike harder to be far more satisfying than riding a bigger bike at 50%. Also the smaller engine may even be more economic - look at the price of petrol (gasoline).

And besides - Ducatis just sound better.
