If you want it to be freedom of choice, then all you have to do is sign the waiver that says that you opt out of the "system" and take full responsibilty for your actions.

That means that when you come off, Ambo, Police and Fire just leave you where you lay, better still don't turn out at all ... because the system has to pay for them.
Or turn out, and send them the bill after... regardless of the fact that he pays the same ACC levys you do...You get what you pay for... dont you...???

Yep sort of. You get my drift though don't you.

A fully kitted rider may take a day in hosp, generally none at all, whereas Joe Freedom in shorts and T-shirt looses all his skin and spends 8 weeks in Hosp getting skin and bone grafts. So if you opt out of the system, then don't expect someone else to make it right when you screw up.

So if I spend a day at the beach, mid summer, get badly sunburnt, spend weeks in hospital (skin grafts etc), Do I have to pay because I didn't put sunblock...or a shirt on ...???

The gene pool has a way of sorting itself out in the end. Why hinder it?

Why... We all pay our way, dont we? I can understand your hostility if he had no acc or wof.. but if he's paid his dues hes entitled to it like anyone else?

Lets take your scenario a step further.. does everyone not driving a > 4* safety rating vehicle have to look after themselves if they crash..??!

I saw you cruising down the road on your late model Triumph Bonnie (at about 3pm. 11/10/08). Sure, it is a warm day, but for fucks sake mate your safety equipment was near non existent save for your burgandy lid. Wearing shorts and a t-shirt just aint on. Sure, it's your skin at risk if ya come off, but who the fuck pays for your skin grafts etc? Ya know who...we all fucking do in our ACC levies and taxes. You are a fuckin moronic bastard without a clue!

It's really good to see so many people taking such a proactive interest in other peoples safety. I'm sure you all wear your hi-vis vests at all times ('t would be hypocritical not to), but in case you need a new one I can recommend the RSEA safety shops.

If you are lost in the bush and found by search and rescue (which I have been) and they find you got into the situation because of negligence on your part i.e Poor gear, no maps, didn't fill in hut log books, or doing something stupid (not sure on the criteria for that one) then you will have to pay for the rescue / helicopter call out. I haven’t heard of anyone personally having to pay but I have read on stuff.co.nz of people getting warnings.

In the same way if you require skin grafts because you didn't wear the right gear and it's coming out of my pocket via ACC levies then I'm adding you to "my list"

    So whats next?

Looking over people shoulders in resturants and criticsing them for not eating healthy food?

Whining at people on the beach on a sunny day for not wearing sunscreen?

Bitching at people crossing the street against the lights?
