Yep sort of. You get my drift though don't you.
A fully kitted rider may take a day in hosp, generally none at all, whereas Joe Freedom in shorts and T-shirt looses all his skin and spends 8 weeks in Hosp getting skin and bone grafts. So if you opt out of the system, then don't expect someone else to make it right when you screw up.
The gene pool has a way of sorting itself out in the end. Why hinder it?
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.
I hope you wear your safety gear and helmet everytime you get on a bus with no seat belts or get in teh car not upto international crash standards..!
Why... We all pay our way, dont we? I can understand your hostility if he had no acc or wof.. but if he's paid his dues hes entitled to it like anyone else?
Lets take your scenario a step further.. does everyone not driving a > 4* safety rating vehicle have to look after themselves if they crash..??!

It's really good to see so many people taking such a proactive interest in other peoples safety. I'm sure you all wear your hi-vis vests at all times ('t would be hypocritical not to), but in case you need a new one I can recommend the RSEA safety shops.

I haven’t heard of anyone personally having to pay but I have read on stuff.co.nz of people getting warnings.Same reply to the same scenario (again).
If you want it to be freedom of choice, then all you have to do is sign the waiver that says that you opt out of the "system" and take full responsibilty for your actions.
That means that when you come off, Ambo, Police and Fire just leave you where you lay, better still don't turn out at all ... because the system has to pay for them.
In the same way if you require skin grafts because you didn't wear the right gear and it's coming out of my pocket via ACC levies then I'm adding you to "my list"![]()
How do you know he wasn't riding 1 minute up the road?
Most busybodies I know , usualy do so because their own lives are to boring and bland .....
They need somebody else's life to comment on instead....
Oh... and usualy they are old women....
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....
I saw a guy on a bike the other day without a bike protector and gloves. better make them compulsory too!![]()
