Yep the "lodge" consists of 3 buildings. The First is the Kitchen with 2 ovens (mmm nachos mmmm) & fridges as well as a large open plan lounge with old couches and hinged tables for eating. Will check re plates & forks etc.

The second is the bunk house which has 4 rooms (I think) with 6 bunks per room & boys & girls showers & toilets.

The third building you guys don't need to know about because that's where I'm sleeping Mahahahaha.

The buildings are old but perfect for the adv type crew. Also there is ample room to pitch a tent if you want to do the wild thing all night & not be watched.

The only thing which may not need to be said but I will say it anyway is that it is on DOC land & we're able to use the place as long as we respect it. ie no bonfires, burnouts & associated hoonism.
This doesn't mean we can't spend the evening having heated debates over oil choice or tyre mileage- by god now I'm getting excited...

    Damn. Just been thinking...
If Mt Patriarch was included in the DB then you could leave out the long section down to Springs Junction/Palmer Road.

But it would probably mean getting in far too late to the overnight stop.

Hmm - down to Mt Pat and back would give us about 76km. This would mean we wouldn't need to any further go south than about 1/2 way along the Maruia West Bank Road i.e. we would still run down to Springs. I don't see any real advantage in this and it would put the one day riders going over the Porika, Breaburn etc later i.e. darker. I'd rather try and pick up some KM's after the Porika on the way back north as a means of loosing the springs south bit but the forestry natzies made this difficult last time I tried.

I appreciate that Mt Pat will give some good views but those from Altimarlock will be better

If you have good sus and don't get caught out by the hidden ford/s. Oh I suppose the nice hard smooth gravel surface and winding road was pretty cool too.

    Great bit of road
I'm never sure how far to go down it though.
Last time we went all the way to the farm houses / Milk yard looking thingy.

Not sure if that's to far or not far enough.

Which ones? The first ones (where the the bridge is) is way to short. You should end up actually in the farm yard about 100m after going through a creek. The roll chart should be correct.

In theory there is a paper road carrying on from there to the upper Grey River (fishermen use it) but this is along a stock race and the farmer asked we didn't use it unless we had too.
