And if everyone liked the same thing it would be a boring old place what with you all on Triumphs and Buells only.

To me the Rocker is about what I would turn it in to - but thats the same with a Road King too.

Oh, so you 'paint by numbers' do you?
Come on, you can't tell me the Rocker is a 'great' bike. It's a corporate suck up to the 'squeakies' and that's fine. it's gonna earn dollars, not kudos.

After being without bikes for some time we floated around bike shops and websites with the cash trying very hard to burn holes in our pockets. We waited, waited and waited some more. I don't know what your budget is but bargains are to be had and we were lucky enough to get two. First up was a 2007 1200 Custom EFI (rubber-mounted engine) Sportster for the female half of this team, it came with smooth rims, heated grips, a wee pack rack and a few other goodies, 12,000k's on the dial and sexy blue paint. Next was a big block for yours truly, a 2000 Wideglide with just 19,000k's on the dial, some aesthetic enhancements, washable air filter, re-calibrated carb, drilled mufflers, axle caps and shit like that, mint condition for $16.5. Both were bargains but you have to have cash in hand and be on the ball to get them.

The 1200 EFI Sporty is peppy and nimble to a degree (not enough ground clearance for either of us) and the W/g needs a suspension makeover but both are damned sexy bikes. HD's are the kind of machine that offers the basics for an over-inflated price but once you understand that and get over it the tinkering begins. If you like to tinker, spend, and have some fun then you won't be disappointed. My Twin Cam W/g has gobs of torque compared to the Evo FXR I had but you can whack a big-bore kit on the 88ci engine if you want more, it's an easy weekend spanner throwing sesh.

If you need help/advice PM me and I'll be as helpful as I can. Ignore the doomsayers, ride what you want/love and go catch some bugs.

    Cheers

Well this is all very interesting for a non-HOG rider but cripes guys, what the hell are you talking about? Fat-tails, Fatboys, V-Rods, Sportsters, Wideglides, Superglides, Night Rods, FXCHABCDE.........yet when I look at your attachments they all look the same apart from bar height!
Didn't even see a proper full-dresser among the crowd which is one of the two images I have of HD. The other image is the standard son-of-Easy-Rider hog which seems to be the object of this discussion. I know there are minute differences between models but it sure looks like Emperors New Clothes stuff from here....

Marty - just get a Victory or a Buell. :

To quote another Marty,'I have a dream' after 348 years of riding I've given up on waiting for the one bike that does it all, it's never going to happen for me, so I hypothesize that everyman needs at least 3 motorcycles.

In my hopefully obtainable dream garage there sits a GSX1400 for the street a DR650 for the wop wops and a Harley for my soul, after that of course, a buell, moto guzzi, ural any thing at all but those three are my realistic working class goal.

It has to be a Harley, better men than me have tried to explain it and failed, I don't know why but a dream garage without a Harley is just lacking somehow a bit like running out the house without putting your false teeth in, somethings missing and only one thing can fill that gap.

I don't disagree with anything you said Winston and I don't fully understand the reason why but despite the sacrifices and shortcomings, it has to be a Harley.
    Oh bugger

It is actually. I wasn't expecting to be, but it has "something" that makes it a more engaging ride than a lot of the more conservative options people have gone for.

It has two things going for it, both of which are undervalued - Simplicity and excellent riding manners.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Yeah, ok valid point in that it caters for another angle. If we all rode the same bike it would be a boring world eh?

I'd mentally written it off for the same reason you had. It's nice to have a preconceived notion dispelled positively.

I can't really going make too many suggestions MB. I'm sure you'll find a HD to suit all your requirements. But if it were my money...
