Oh how we have missed you Indy!

I'm gonna make it so PC
i dont see why you would need a bigger bike, you'll just end up in the same place as renegademaster... a big bike that you dont know how to ride.
Get a GSF250/Spada/Balius, they have good leg room. I'm marginally shorter than you and had no problem on a ZXR/CBR, or the GF250 all of which are smaller than those mentioned above.
Also, factor in insurance and running costs... thats what is killing me at the moment, hence why i havent been out for a decent ride in a while.

Wasp in my crew is a tall basket. He rides a bandit quite comfortably! He used to ride my VTZ and even I get cramps on that and I'm only 5'8.Originally Posted by gareth_d

Mr Gareth_d said more bluntly that to which I was tactfully alluding. What's wrong with the FXR? Y'reckon you can ride it to it's (bike's limits, not yours) limits yet?

the fxr is not the perfect bike for all situations ... actually is a pain in the ass out of town, too small, rusty, shite mirrors, dangerous to pass people etc... and the 250's are far overpriced.
Im not as tall as some (5'11) but weigh 135kgs. My brother is 6'3 and weighs 155 kgs. We've both found that height isnt really the issue (especially if you manage to get a bike with a big size frame like the Hyosung).
Our issue is that we weigh about as much as the bike we're riding. Very tricky around corners with the skinny tyres!![]()
We may try for the exemption when we hit the restricted stage (a month away)but in the mean time there is still alot to learn on a 250.

Go for it, if you are 6'4" give it a try, worst can happen is they decline you.
The lanky ones could go for a Trailie (not sure that suggestion will go down well)
Yes, I have a cc exemption on my restricted as crashe said. As for an exemption on a learner's license, it would have to be an extreme case. I enquired out of interest, but there was such a slim hope, basically they would try to say no immediately... Looking back, it was good to spend at least the whole of the learners on the zzr250, because it taught me to really ride it.
I have attached the document I wrote for the exemption, and I put it inside the form as the box for reasons was too short. I also had another A4 sheet with 6 bike pics with me on them, varying in capacity from 250 - 1000. Each picture had a small blurb of good/bad/why etc.
The form required is DL4, and on the cover there is a small paragraph telling you how they judge your application. An exemption is not automatic, and is granted case by case. They don't provide them for people who have a whim to possibly ride another bike. They are basically looking to see that if they provide the exemption, you would be no less safe (worded in some way like that) than you would be on a 250 or less. I basically pointed out that I was less safe on the zzr250, which I do truthfully believe.
As an aside, you can apply for an exemption from any condition, but whether you actually get it, is another question.
The application was sent to Christchurch for consideration, and took just over a week.

I'm just saying that he can fit on many 250's so there probably isnt much point in going out and applying for the exemption. But if you do go that way good on ya mate, just keep you bike a reasonable size so you can get some more time in the saddle to get your skill level up before tyring to foot it with the big guys (trust me it hurts when you get it wrong)![]()
