    Finally on my BIKE!!!

Bike: Kinetic GF170 (in collaboration with Hyosung)
15bhp/15Nm of torque, top speed 115km/h

Anyway, I picked up my bike on Saturday just before 12 (Tauranga). It came with a dodgy FFM tinted helmet, which I used to get to MotoGB to buy a new helmet HJC CS-10, which happened to be on sale $119

Had a really nice ride back to Hamilton, stopped at one of the gift shops, and had a stretch (I wasn't sitting very well on the bike to start with). The Kaimai's were a lot more fun than I thought they would be. When I got back to Hamilton, did a bit more riding around, to get more comfortable riding around in town traffic. Sunday: did about 70km around Hamilton just because I could. The bike is pretty good on gas, unless you rev it out in every gear. It's comfortable around town, but I could do with more grunt on the open road (where I plan to spend a fair amount of time).

Next section: The gear I've got so far: any pants that I am currently wearing, and my Hallensteins 'biker' style jacket (looks like leather, but you can never be sure) and Quasimoto race gloves (from QuasiEvil). Anyway, as soon as I sell my car (next couple of weeks hopefully), I'm gonna buy proper gear. I've been looking at the new shipment of gear that Quasi is bringing in, and just as a matter of personal opinion, would it be lame for me to be wearing full leathers on a low cc bike, since I'll be able to afford it, or should I just get some draggin jeans and a synthetic jacket?

I would prefer to get the Quasi Leathers, but would I look like too much of a try-hard?

i got one of those jackets from jay jays in welly in the weekend. very cool. not sure about using it as a primary riding jacket though.

if you're not too keen on full leathers, why not look at some Fox riding pants (their 'all weather pant' is cool) and a 360 jacket?

go into boyd honda & a have a look at their catalogue

I'm keen on full leathers, was just concerned about looking a bit of a try-hard with full leathers on a 170cc, but then again, a definition of a try-hard is any car with a noisy exhaust with a tilted cap... silly n00b boyracers...

Dude, I feel sorry for you. Even my Fixer goes faster than that. Oh well thats not whats important. Whats important is having fun, esp on the corners.

To be honest, get the leathers. When I can afford leathers I'll get some even if I'm still on my fxr. It doesn't matter. Safety is important

    get the leathers...

sliding at 30km/h can hurt, let alone 70 or 100!

you'd look sillier all rashed up in Hospital, me thinks..

    congrats on gettin' wheels too!

Over some 40 years I have paradoxically found that the smaller the bike the more actual FUN it is. And I've toured all over the North Island on a bike with a top speed of 70kph. No probs.

    Go for it Mr ZeroIndex

Thanks for the replies. I shall definitely get full leathers when I sell my car. Getting one of those Oxford Ultra Vision gold visor inserts for my lid in the next day or two (just waiting for it to arrive).

I got some decentish leather-upper boots, they cover my ankles, and have a fair amount of tread on them ;p. Boot size: 11 - 12, will probably buy the "Falco Thunder Boot ($249)" when I get the rest of my gear (unless you know of something better/cheaper?)

I chucked myself down the road at 100+ks on Thursday and thanks to full leathers I didn't lose a scrap of skin. Leathers are still in near perfect condition. Leathers = teh win.

I was, however, too cheap to buy proper riding boots. I'm still limping around. Learn from my mistake and buy some alpinestars or sidis.

    Oh, and welcome

Thanks Beamer89, I do plan to get some nice leathers, although being overly optimistic, I hope I never have to use them...
