I for one need a better clue, I can't see the "thing" well enough to do a googling for it.

I propose for these somewhat obscure tags, a general distance from the square be given, short (<25), medium (<50), large (<100), and maybe even a general bearing N/W/S/E, might quicken the pace of the game during summer.

neels
8th January 2010, 23:43
Fair enough, I've attached another very old photo of the 'thing', I suppose it is a bit obscure as it's only been there for a bit over 110 years so people can't really be expected to know of it's existance

whats needed with these tags is clues as to 'what' it is rather than were to find it...
Like I did with the Courtney pub tag, feed us info to surch out the tag and learn as we go, other wise its just a race to a place to bet others.

If you do the math and /x+-= you will get a average speed, which will in turn tell you if its up hill, down hiill or down a long straight flat road... but remember to take in to account, I aint no slouch.

Because the line is actually interrupted in several locations before they get to those points, interestingly rail (Kiwrail now?) owns the land the tracks are on so it cant just be paved over, a few years back sections of track actually had rolling stock on them that was listed as an asset yet had not moved in over 20 years.

Yeah, when its really misty and you can barely see 20m in front of the bike it's really hard to spot the landmarks. Did the whole summit rd today at the cracking speed of 30km/h(max). Stopped at KFC though on the way home, dripped a nice puddle all over the floor while waiting for my food:p

well... bit of a story, only ever seen the pic once and loged it into the sweed. Figgered it was up at Godley heads as I remember seeing the spit in the distance and the pic was taken at altude... so off I went through the rain in sumner then up to the fogy clowd... dodgy wee bit a road out to the heads considering it was so foggy, gat there and thought, fark, im to high... so back down to Scarbough and up the road to Taylors mistake nothing up at the turn off area looking at the spit, shit still to high.
Back down to the last hairpin and went up that road that hugs the clif, nothing so went up a few private drive ways, nothing... ahh well nother time then.
On the decent I thought Id have a look in the boat club place jus for the hell of it, as I drove in I found myself looking straight at the tag, however there was a locked gate between us. On closer look it wasnt locked so in I busted on in. turns out the view I had saved in me noggin was the previous tag, had I reliesed that I wouldent have found the tag cos I wouldent have had any idea were it was.
Tag is part of the origanl road block from ww2 stopping traffic entering militery areas, it used to be further down the road by the pools.

Yip... took me right to were I thought it was, but hey... I copy n pasted... how do you type the degrees sign?

You can just type the co-ordinates into google leaving a space where the degrees sign is and it will still find it eg 43 50'44.73"S 172 54'5.02"E
You can to the leave a space where " and ' symbols are too and google will still find it eg 43 50 44.73 S 172 54 5.02 E

If you want to see all the symbols go to: Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map
Find the symbol you want (this could take a while), select then copy then paste where you want

If you know the name of the symbol you want, just search in google eg "symbol degrees" then copy and paste from one of the links there

There are a lot of these bridges with the same design around the city, my guess would be Woolston/Ferrymead area

This has gone very quiet, so it must be time for a clue.

On the Avon, downstream of the city centre, clearly visible on google maps.

na, these were all big 'real' bikes aye... obviously unlike me they have not seen what the body looks like after its been draged by a car, no blood, just white meat, was a girl and her boobs were worn off... and those that dress beter have to pay for the skin graphs etc, not that helped this girl she never recovered mentally.
Tags in a new subdevision IIRC

Yeah, I have seen a few the last couple of days. Saw one guy in Shorts and singlet, but still wearing his gloves!. I am sure people think the road won't hurt on a sunny day.

As for the tag, I know where it is but for some reason my wife thinks I would be mad to go get it now....

It isn't a tag, it was art done by school kids and you should know where this is. i spent many hrs at this location in my younger years. Lived just down the road. If it is still there tomorrow i think I will adventure out and get it.

As a former kid, I can attest to the fact that a kids trike hurtling down Evans Pass goes well fast :-)

Remember ATGATT, the bib is particularly important.

I hope you were careful on the new seal going over the hill, unless you are more of an adventure rider and took the direct route from your place

Ya plonker that the wrong sort of beer, bleeding heck drinking a Tui in front of a CD sign, you going to have to start learning these things before that father of yours leads you too far astray.
