Got me thinking, Maybe it's worth doing a longer ride occasionally as well as the week on week training stuff... perhaps once a month or something like that.

What a great idea! Can't believe no ones thought of it before. Many.. many a time. ;)

You should've joined us on the emergency braking! Or at least let me try your bike :P My bike has the SV650 engine (but it's an '02 so it has the carbed version) and I've always wanted to compare it with a SV to see if the USD forks, brakes, and braided brake lines make a difference.

The NASS (under the previous name) has not historically been good to me - I only ever do stupid shit when theres plenty of people standing around to see!

I test rode an 02 SV & didn't like it, though I suspect the one I took out had had a hard life & was in need of some TLC

There were reports of a lightning storm over the Coromandel last night. A water spout (tornado over the water) picked up a boat over at Gt Barrier and smashed it up.

I like your taste in tyres and helmet graphics.

Now you need a red 600rr (or maybe I should get a KTM) and we can be twins :drinknsin

How many km do you get out of the tank on the supermoto? They sure look like fun bikes.

hah.

The KTM is awesome on the gas. It's a 13.5 Litre tank. I haven't been able to get it UNDER 20 km/L. So thrashing the tits off it till the fuel light comes on (11 litres used) will get me at least 220km. But cruising on the open road will get me 275km ish off the 11L. So will quite happily do 300km on the tank if you want to do a couple of k's with the light on!

It is for sale at the moment...

That's not toooo bad actually. Not quite as much as my 600rr but still better than a lot of MX converted motards from what I understand.

What's the deal with services? Nothing major?

Don't have the cash right now or I'd be sorely tempted to turn my 600rr into a track bike and take your KTM for road riding/commuting.

Services every 5k.
The 5 k services are about $165, the 10k services are about double that (check valve clearances etc).
Pretty good value. I was pleasantly surprised. Although everything is cheap after owning a Triumph heh.

Right, the times almost here again, any suggestions for tommorows session?

Weather oracle's say it's gonna be sunny tommorow, which is a shame. No emergency braking in the rain..

I was upfront on the ride over last week but if anyone in the middle saw anything that may need working on let us know about it.

Whether it be cornering, correct lines, decreasing radius' (which we didn't see any of..), predicting when a rubbish truck in the wrong lane to go round a round-a-bout leading it right on top of you forcing you into the island... you know. Whatever.

why don't we get mark and dawn to do what happened last year were they took us though a serious of sessions that followed on one after the other progressing up to a ride in say 4-5 weeks?:scooter:or something like that.

We did breaking last week so cornering would not be a bad step but Mark and Dawn if you have any suggestions...

hope the weather plays ball this week and everyone comes out again. see you all there. PS: might be a little late to the meeting place josh i have to pick my wife up from work at 5 so will prob be more like 6 for me to get there. but will see you all there.:bash::Oops:

I'll most likely be there from shortly after 5. It is soooo much nicer to pootle across in light traffic and chill out before the meet than it is to split from mt wellington to westgate in nasty traffic. Too many cagers getting antsy and trying to take out their frustrations on a poor defenseless biker :baby:

Cornering & staggered riding, Every-one that I saw blindly followed each other down the middle of the lane. Also less than 2 seconds gap!!!!!!:spanking: If anything happened it would be one down all down!! Regards Richard

Hey Richard,

I wont be able to make it over to Westgate but should be able to meet you all at Albany. Perhaps you should go over with the group about staggered riding before you leave Westgate and make them do it all the way over to Albany (except in the corners etc..). We could set up a slow and fast corner in the carpark for them to practice their cornering skills on.

I'll see you all later at Albany..

I'm not gonna be there tommorow night, hope you have a good one.

If it's wet, i'd recommend emergency stops. The ball game completely changes in that situation, and even if you're ready for it, what you expect to happen may not.

In the dry, perhaps slow speed bike control. Travelling along straight lines as slow as possible, cone weave, perhaps even a tight, slow speed course to manuver through. All useful for auckland traffic.

Have a good one.

Sounds like a plan. I think the weather is supposed to play ball tomorrow.

There was a comment passed last week that some of the newer riders did not understand/were confused regarding roundabouts. If its dry, roundabouts plus some slow speed stuff might be on the cards.

There are quite a few new faces and names turning up/wanting to come along to the NASS training nights.

Just some basic info for the new attendees.

For those coming from the CBD/South/East/West Auckland, meet at Westgate Shell @ 6.30pm is the better bet for you. Westgate is located at the end of the Northwestern Motorway, hang a left at the Traffic light controlled roundabout (and roadworks) and you'll see the Shell after the second set of Traffic lights on the left (just past McDonalds). If you cant make it to Westgate by 7pm, suggest you make a beeline straight to Albany (see below).

For those in the North Shore region - I would suggest you meet at Noel Leeming Albany Carpark @ 7.15pm which is opposite Albany Pak'n Save and the big new Albany Westfield (just down from Harbour Stadium). The reason for the Northshore crew to meet up in Albany - gives you more time to turn up and saves you having to backtrack (unless you want to do a bit of a ride over to Westgate and back again). The rest of the crew from Westgate usually turns up there around 7.30ish.

If you have any questions, just put them up in this thread. (Don't be shy, I don't bite)

Since the weather is looking :sunny: for the evening.......

Depending on numbers, we can split the group into two and the format for tonight will be:

Newer riders
Will be working on roundabouts and a surprise exercise

NASS Regulars (You know who you all are)
Couple of slow speed exercises - Dog Bone/U-turns etc...
May look at braking in corners depending on time...

If its a smaller group, we'll decide when we get there. :p

Haahaha, yeah, i was on the reserve all night. When my tank gets low down it's spread over the central bar of my frame, so if i sit in a straight line on the motorway for a while it starts to get real low on the side where the fuel tap is. BUMMER! I was obviously sitting at the 'clean' table and missed that conversation, will someone fill me in :devil2:

I had a great time last night and will have to try and make myself a regular.

I have always had a bit of a mental block with the whole tight cornering thing, but after the carpark training it just seems so simple now.

When turning into my street for example, its quite sharp and theres and island in the middle of the intersection.... I've always been (with the risk of sounding dodgy) a little stiff and jerky and has never quite felt right, but last night coming home I just pictured it with a few tennis balls around it and it was a breeze.
It felt nice and smooth and I'm sure it looked good too

The more I learn the more I'm loving my riding....Roll on next week!

Damb that not good. Did you lift it on your own? That would have been a big ask with the front wheel in the wrong position. It's amazing what a bit of adrenalin can do eh.

I will be there this week. Lucky me finnishes work at 4pm nowadays.

Hope all made it home safely in the rain.

I was pissing a taxi off by thrashing him at every set of lights from Gillies onward, till he roared past me at a stupid speed on the Mangere Bridge. Dumbass.

But I need stickier rubber. A 2-fiddy should have better traction in the wet.

yesterday was my third session with the NASS. the lesson was creative and practical as ever, thank you mentors. funny, but my bike seemed lighter and more nimble - all 208kg of it - than it was three weeks ago. i must have learnt something.

the highlight had to be the ride along the twisty Coattesville stretch; i've driven through many times before but, yes, it's definitely more fun on a motorcycle. was glad i made the Devonport-Westgate detour instead of heading straight for Albany. the sky looked like it would open in the evening but luckily that held off until after class. hmm, my first ride in the rain at night in 16 years. it didn't feel that long ago...

Aight. Copy that. I just wanna hear a few mean 2-fitty's roaring through the tunnel :) . But I like the idea of going up one way and back down via another, for the variety. I don't know yet what time I'll go, as I have all afternoon off. But if anyone wants to go for a cruise and has to work I don't mind going after work hours... Chance to practice my splitting/filtering. :D

Hey Badger. Can't see your number, maybe cos I haven't been added as a friend yet. Anyway, I'm still thinking about riding up to Wellsford and back, possibly as suggested SH16 up and SH1 back down via the new road. Or vice versa.

Ha, riding in the rain can be kinda fun, except for the roads being slippery, and not when it gets cold...
I had a great fun ride up on SH16. Had a scary moment when I was pulling back to the left side of the road after an overtaking maneuver and my front wheel hit an oddly big cateye. I was suprised how much it upset the VTR, it nearly went into a tank slapper. Would've been a REALLY bad time to happen too. Anyway, apart from that all was well, and I was starting to really get the hang of hanging off the side in the corners and weighting the footpegs.
The ride home on the new road was smooth, fast, and boring though.
