Umm... that means that there's two mentor rides at the same time, at the same place. I love the idea, I'd go to it, but it would be better if it were on a different day. That way those who want to get better at riding (Like me) would have two training rides a week, instead of a choice between two on the same day.
Just a tip, but well done!! :2thumbsup

2) a dry warm place for theory
3)a 15km section of twisty road very close by to practice the new skills
4) if it turns to poop a transport vehicle available and a warm dry place to store ya bike

An 'open road' ride is planned (depending on weather).
If it is raining, the road ride will be postponed but there will still be a training session.
Learner riders will be followed and their riding monitored. We will stop occasionally and go over any pointers/advice/feedback on their riding skills.
Meet at Westgate 6.30pm
Rider briefing at 6.55PM SHARP! Detailing what we will doing/how far and what to look out for - If your not there for the briefing, no ride.
Pre-Ride Inspections (Go over your bike to make sure its Road Worthy)
Minimum Riding gear: Helmet, Jacket, Pants, Gloves, Boots
Please make sure you are warm enough while riding (Cold = Fatigue)
No tinted or Irridium Visors to be worn, you will be told to go home.

Weather is near perfect, so it looks like we are set to go for a ride!
Remember to wrap up warm (it IS going to be :cold: later tonight) and getting cold on a bike leads to fatigue.. Grab a bikers balaclava or wrap up your neck with a warm scarf. 1/3rd of heat loss is through the head and neck areas.
Dont forget to fill your bike with fuel when you arrive - so nobody is pushing their bike home Be ready to do a pre-ride check on your bike. (Even tho you should of done it before you left home... :weird:) If you are not sure what a pre-ride check is or how to do it, dont panic we can go through it together....
Catch you all up at Westgate tonight.

Well i'm back from my 5 day tour..
Minor frost bite on my little finger, but that's about it. Was well worth it.
AND! Just on the way home, maybe 20 minutes from home I was boosting pretty quick because my hands were killing me and I got pulled over by a mufti.. two scotish blokes having a go at how stupid and ridiculous I am and waving an $800 ticket around and then one of them just winked, and they drove off. It wasn't my charm because I didn't get a chance to say much.. perhaps my good looks?
Anyway, after all that bull. I'll be there, keen for a ride. Again.

Great ride last night!
Must of been one of the most coldest rides Ive done for a while. :cold: Some really good riding was on display, even from those who had not been on those roads before. It goes to show how important it is to have a decent headlight and anti-fog for your visor and what it can do to your confidence while riding at night.
Couple of things to remember:
Look to the left white shoulder line while approaching an oncoming car (to avoid being blinded)
Keep your lights on low beam if following another vehicle or approaching an oncoming vehicle (Unlike some on the ATNR!) :dodge:
Never outride the length of your headlight beam
When coming to a stop at an intersection, always check your mirrors to see whats approaching from behind. If they look like they wont stop or are approaching too fast, flash your brakelights to get their attention!
Catch you guys next week.

Check out these over gloves.
I just bought a pair last weekend and they do work. I had one day (when we had 0 degrees overnight) that my fingers where cold. otherwise they keep hands 100% dry and a hell of alot warmer.

Hi there Qkchk,
Im going to be buying a Suzuki VL250 on the 21st of August (week and a half a way - counting the days so help me god i want it now)
I will probably turn up the following wednesday (27th) to check it out, this sounds like a good idea.
Ive been riding a suzuki uz125 scooter for the last 6 months and have done some motorway stints and what have you and generally really confident with handling but general skills and tips and gears and yadda yadda would really like some advice from people who know what they are doing!
Gonna be sitting my restricted in September so best to skill up for that!

Sorry I havnt been to any rides in the last few weeks. The rough winds have been putting me off doing the motorways and open roads....to say nothing of the rain.
I have to start work at 9pm on Wednesdays for the next two weeks so son't be making it for a while.

Amazing how slow the weeks go when you're hanging out for a new bike eh? Your are welcome to come along, have a look and hopefully participate in some of the exercises. (You dont have to wait till you have your bike.........you can come and watch)
If it looks like constant rain on a Wednesday then there is a good change it is cancelled. Keep looking back on this thread for updates, I usually post them up that afternoon....

hey there EJ, yeah long time no see. seems to be a whole different bunch of people now days making trouble on a wednesday. hectic work and real life commitments are a true pain and have a way of interfering with the mental enjoyment and socialising side of riding a bike. i've still been riding everyday no matter what though :) until this happened;
sadly the hyobag died a terrible death in the form of being run over at a roundabout a few weeks back. yellow hi-viz vests are apparently invisible according to the blind fool who took me out. It didnt look like much but it was terminal. getting the swingarm bent and forks scratched up pushed it beyond repair. I couldnt face the thought of sitting my fat behind on another commuter that in the weekends i was treating like my mountainbike and threw it around like one too so i got on a fat lazy suzi at the end of last week to alter my riding position and pull my head in to remind me that it's a road im riding on and not a trail. the sports tourer seating position is working wonders sofar because it feels more like a real road bike than a trail bike but i really are missing those wide bars and laid back centre of gravity ahahahahah. hopefully i'll make it along a few more times now and again to these nights but the work schedule isnt calming by the look of things however tonight looks like a go though so see you all there :Punk:
how about you - got a bike that works yet?

Hi all - sorry for the "drive through" last last - I was scoping a few things in respect of FROISTY'S wedding (see my siggy block)
Also - MackTheKnife has a couple of firehoses that have been very useful for training sessions in the past. They're in storage at my place and he's said anyone is welcome to come and pick them up.

Turns out going to a concert, getting boozed, then doing an early start at work isn't a good idea..
And yup, turns out its the 2009 model, but has to have 2008 on the rego... how stoked am I right now.

Got to learn to pace your self ,,, ha ha
About the bike ,,,,, does not sound right ,,, i have heard about people buying a bike or car in dec , but only reg it in jan so that it is a later year , but not the other way arround , if you try and sell it and the dude looks at the reg ,,, its a 2008 , how did they explain it to you ?
3L4NS1R
15th September 2008, 16:26
hmmm. noone explained it to me. that was merely the result in my research in that there is no real 2008 model per say. more of a early release 2009...
if that makes sense.

Yeah, bikes for 2009 are released in 2008, which means it could well have been registered in 2008 but it was the 2009 model.
Doesn't really make a huge amount of difference when you're selling it on, you still bought it in 2008 so that's how old it is, though good to hear you got the new model.
I saw you yesterday on my way back from work.. can't remember where any more.
And no promises about making it this wednesday because i'll be riding to Tauranga tommorow and coming back Wednesday, but i'll make my best effort.
Rav has got himself a CBR 600 and he said he'll bring it along this week so i'll be keen to go see it..

oh, rain showers you mean.
what happens if your riding along and then it starts to rain? do you stop at the side of the road looking up at the sky like chicken little thinking of your impeding doom or carry on your merry way? HTFU all you pussies!!!!!! nothing better to learn how your bike handles in the wet than riding in the wet, and its a free bike wash too :spanking: anyway - it's only showers not full blown rain. the clouds are rolling across the albany basin right now and it doesnt look too bad

I will be leaving mangere at 6pm and will go to Westgate, it shouldnt take a whole hour. If no one is there I will try to find my way to Albany via the motorway as I dont want to do the Riverhead on my own.
Last time I went via the motorway it took me a half hour to accidently find the carpark.

What pisses me off is when I donate one of my free nights for rider training and end up standing in the rain with only 1 or 2 riders turning up.
