i used to run 32 front, 36 rear om my lil ol hornet (similar to the bandit) What size tyre on the rear?
You'll find if you get too high pressure on the front it'll feel like its trying to skitter as you turn in / go through corners. Generally want more pressure in the rear tyre, wider and carrying more load through the corners etc.

Interesting. I put about 35-38 front and 45 rear in my tyres. Maybe that is why I feel my bike is not always sticking to the road on corners like I find bigger bikes do.

32/36 is a good number to start with,
The circles thing--the whole idea is to get round n round UNDER CONTROL in as tight a circle as possible. The circle size to a fair degree is only limited by the lock of your bike.

Because he is one messed up individual (I'm using my nice language here). Basically the kid in 'nucking futs'! Kids can be expected to get upset when they don't get what they want - but there is a range of normal behaviour, then there is that kid!
Back to the topic of 90° tyre valves - when I bought my rear tyre I asked at Haldanes about swapping to the 90° valves because I couldn't get a tyre inflater thingy (sorry to get so technical) onto them. The bike mechanic guy said that he didn't recommend them because they could more easily catch on something and rip out - which would be bad. Has anyone ever heard of problems like that? Anyway I ended up sticking with my normal tyre valves and bought a new tyre inflater thingy with a flexible stem that I can get onto my valves OK with some effort - now I can adjust my pressure whenever I want.

At the time I was racking my brains trying to think of any situation where a problem COULD occur - maybe an issue on an offroad bike (adventure/MX/motard/whatever) but on my scooter?
My rear rim is only 13" and the front is 14" - there is not a lot of room between the brake discs and the rim. I will have to look at the issue again when I am getting the next new tyre (I am up to 24,000 kms, the front can't last forever). Currently I can inflate my tyres at home but at a service station it all depends on the design of their tyre inflater.

Yeah it's a pain in the arse, definately recommend the 90 degree valves, sooo much easier to work with. I cant think at all what it could possibly catch on that a standard one wouldn't...

He's been trying to sell that for 12 months now. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw that bike.
Me'n some mates made a cash offer yonks ago, which he refused. Next day said it'd been "sold" for even less'n what we'd offered.
He's managed to allegedly "sell" that bike at LEAST three times that I recall, before I stopped following his dodgy thread.
Since he started trying to sell it he's dropped the price around 4k, told everyone it's been sold multiple times, and also crashed it whilst wheelieing.
I wouldn't touch that with a eight foot stick. :niceone:

Cheers mate, appreciate the info.
I asked the trademe guy "steve" if he was crazy steve from KB, to which he replied "No".
But both steves are from Franklin, Auckland;
Both of them it's the missus' bike;
Both green 2008 ER6N's;
Both showing pix with the Arrow muffler...
Both have similar phrasing in the text about when the services were done...
All seems like too much of a co-incidence.
And if it is him, why would he reply that "no" it isn't?
I'll keep waiting. Maybe even just keep my VTR till I can afford finance on a new STriple... Unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse for the VTR.

31 000km for a hornet is barely run in. looks like a mint bike. and the price is right.
One thing I dont remember excatly is about the front forks. I believe the model 01 up to 03 have non-adjustable forks, while the models 2004 - 2008 have adjustable front suspension. I suggest you ask the seller if I am correct (i'm 99% sure).
it would pay to go have a look at it. Let me know if you would like me to come with you to have a look together.

Thanks for the feedback on Hungus' bike (and the others).
6 and 7 seem a bit steep, but both are virtually brand new, with 4 and 6 thousand K's on the clock respectively. So they're not even fully run in yet. With 7 you can tell she's really looked after it and treated it like gold, which is a good thing when you're the next buyer.

Yes, I appreciate "slowing down" is the answer
That's what the radar detector is for - to remind you to check your speed and make sure it is not too high, lest you get done again. You certainly don't have one so you can break the law, heaven forbid :innocent:

Just as well it was out! i am not going to post how fast i was going but let me say it was just slightly more than the posted speed limit and a tad more than what said officer booked me for. so i thought it only polite to mention to him that he just may want to have his radar checked!

What are you on about - you are riding a Suzuki, they must be one of the worst for speedo accuracy. I can ride my scooter on 120kph without the cops bothering me - the GPS says I am only doing 108kph.
Do you have an original sprocket? Regardless you may want to check the accuracy of YOUR speedo. I would guess that the cop's radar is pretty close to accurate.

chasio
9th July 2009, 12:11
Well I had a moment last night but couldn't come along to the pub for a debrief, so here is what I THINK happened.
I was lined up wrong for the braking practise so thought I'd wiggle around to straighten up before setting off. This gives me my
Lesson #1 - I need to plan my approach earlier so as to line up better.
While doing this I was thinking about the next practise run i.e. "I need a bit more squeeze on the front and a bit less foot", etc.
Lesson #2 - focus on what I am doing RIGHT NOW not what I am going to be doing later. It is too easy to switch off and, as Richard underlined, bikes don't give a lot of margin for inattentive riders.
So I got to roughly were I want to be lined up and with about half lock still on I decide to use the front brake to stop the bike. I have read more than once that this ia a BAD IDEA but before the brain kicked in it was whoosh, thump, oh, things look different from down here. :Oops:
Lesson #3 FFS don't grab the front brake in a car park manoeuvre and definitely not with some lock angling the front wheel down any kind of slope, a full top box and a fresh tankful of gas!
Richard was kind enough to tell me he's seen far more experienced bikers do it and I am hoping that is the "public drop" now out of the way and I won't do it again (ahem).
A big thank you to the kind folks that picked up my bike and checked I was OK. I have to say, if I'm going to do something daft with a group of people there to watch, you're a good bunch to choose. :2thumbsup
Last night I thought I'd got away with it (bar a sore finger), but today I find I have a sore back and stiff neck. I think it is reminder of my age more than anything else!
I can't make it next week but I'll be back for more (practise, that is).
Cheers - Chasio
PS Another plus for the Freewind - no damage except for a couple of minor scratches to the brake lever and the luggage rack. The bars seem to keep the plastics off the ground nicely. :)

I will be taking a "Road Theory" evening for all of those who wish to attend.
This will not be a Defensive Driving Course type lecture but is aimed at the around town rider. Discussion will be lively and very much motorcycle orientated.
Tea, Coffee and chocolate biscuits will be supplied.
Meet at Shell Westgate at the usual time, 6.30pm to 7.00pm.
Then I will lead whoever wishes to attend to Frosties place in Henderson.
The evening is roughly planned to finish around 9pm.

on the hornetto's you gotta pull the tank off. Once you got that off it's not tooooo bad, just make sure you got a plug socket and an extension for the ratchet and you'll be fine :yes: and make sure you push the plug leads on nice n firm when you replace them :sunny:
