Any ride on this weekend? Weather reports that sunday will be no rain.
Same place (Dairy flat Caltex), same time (sunday 09h30 for 10h00), who else is coming?

I am absolutely itching for a ride. Its been ages!!

I'm in central Auckland (Eden Terrace) but can go out a bit. Still trying to learn my countersteering so a bit slow on corners so you may have to bear with me a bit :). But other than that I can keep up fine on motorways and stuff. If you PM me your numbers we can arrange something? I was going to do the Hyosung ride Sunday morning but might just stop by, say hi and pass it up if others are doing a different one. I'm free tonight, saturday afternoon or sunday.

It would seem that this thread has been hijacked into a "lets talk about all other rides" thread.

May i humbly suggest that the people that are looking for 'other rides and groups' start another thread (with a different title).

Maybe "assorted other crap rides, going to anywhere else and on any other day" would do.

Most of the regular riders have bikes on hold (in bits) and have switched to dirt for the winter.
There are still a few that go but don't post up here so you take your chance that there might be some one there.

Clevedon to Miranda is a cool as ride...i usually head around through the hunua's into mangatawhiri, kaiaua right around into clevedon and back home...it's a good road with lots of variety and sod all traffic.

i've done the 16 through to the north, but it was years ago...

the raglan run is also a great blast through the back roads, again sod all traffic...

if you're headin through S Aucks again pm me and i might be keen for a spin...

Haven't put much thought into this yet.
How about meeting at Z petrol station in Takanini at 9:30am. Since we are coming from central and from west.

We will be a fairly small group of fairly quick riders (through the corners anyway). Not exceeding the legal limits, aaaand not going a lot slower than that either.
If this suits you, then welcome and we'll see you there.

Are all of you on sports bikes?

I am quite confident on the corners and tend to not slow down unnecessarily. So I would like to say Yes, but again at the same time do not want to hold up any of the other riders. So I am going to pass.

Thanks

you guys didnt happen to head down past the old ice cream castle and onto mangatangi rd did ya?saw a large group fly by and looked like they were having a great time, might have to keep an eye open on this thread and link in with you guys next time you pass by for the loop

Yep we went past there in the morning cutting across to Miranda, so much better than heading down SH2.

There was also a much larger group headed the opposite way to us so you might have seen them also.

Would have been keen, since I loved that route so much. Crazy that I haven't ever ridden it before!
However doing the ART day this Saturday at Hampton Downs, then flag marshalling for the AMCC Round 5 on Sunday.

I gather they are woefully short of flagmarshalls for Saturday and can't run without several more - if you know anyone who would be interested in being trackside, up close and personal, get a free lunch etc. etc. could they contact the chief flagmarshall Angela Vernon (email: ms.chief.angel@gmail.com) or be there for 7.30-8am on Saturday.

Anybody up for a bit of a ride Sunday, maybe head to Mangawhai then upto Waipu for lunch or something.
Weather so far is looking pretty sweet.

Also learner riders do not be concerned about coming on this ride, none of us want to loose our license so do not ride at the speed of sound, if you can comfortably do 100-110 on the open road then you will do fine on this ride

Just spotted in the herald: SH1 over Brynderwyn Hills is closed for resurfacing ... for several night ... southbound travellers will be sent through Waipu and Mangawai.

Only at nights, so may not affect the ride.

Realistically on a sunday there is always going to be police patrolling sh16 as there are many people the organize rides along there.
Also with today being an awesome day, which as we go into winter will likely be few and far between they may have been out in more force.

But non of us go pulled over while in a group, not sure about afterwards. But always try to stick to the rules up 16 for this reason.

I love going to Opononi. Waipoua Forest is up there in my top rides discovered to date (that's where my avatar is from). Last we checked there were several unmarked un-swept new-seal sections.
Avoiding the Dargaville straights is yet to be properly investigated.

Hey Bawked. This may not be suitable for LAMs approved bikes, even the ZXR250.
In the event Juniper joins us, it won't be on her ZXR this time, we would be 2-up in order to get my bike cornering smoother and quicker.

There is a good chance that several others would be keen to get a second group going too. We could all meet up for lunch. Stay tuned.

It'll be a mid to late morning departure on Friday, due to a couple of commitments.

Yeah OK, so my 8am peak out the window on Saturday morning was not a very accurate weather report, lol.
There were a few patches of nice dry roads in there. And I'm starting to learn which are the grippy roads in the wet, that equated to some pretty good corners too (I'm such a fair weather rider!).

Looking at doing a day ride this coming Saturday 31 May.
Haven't put any thought into where we go, whether north or south. Open to ideas.
Catering to all experience levels, we'll be finding some nice winding roads, and regrouping at intersections.

Great, you're most welcome!

Weather seems pretty good, I suppose depending upon which forecast eh. I choose to believe this one:

hey, fun ride. easily the most KM's I've clocked up in a day on this bike.

my two lessons from the day. I need better gloves, these Harley ones suck! And I need some practice on 35kmph corners! :pinch:

Sat vs Sun, i'd say sat will be the better day for weather. Sunday's looking sketchy but might be alright.
How about Awhitu peninsula?

Yeah I agree Saturday looks better than Sunday. Shower or two vs Rain developing

But I don't mind either day. Could go to Awhitu Peninsula - never been there before :)

Can always have two rides. One on sat and another on sun.
Ive got a good day planned for sat to Awhitu peninsula. Prob around 300 kms by the time i get back to Te atatu.
Good food at a nice obscure cafe looking over the ocean. go and see a bit of history. - couple of historic places one with an awesome view and the other serves alcohol... Good roads. all sealed (except for a short stint to the lighthouse ~500m) and in good repair. one road is a bit of a goat track which will be interesting. (this is why id rather go when its dry.)
Meet behind the caltex station in manukau, corner of te irirangi and Gt south roads at 10.30am. Depart at about 11am

Hopefully some others are keen with this mint weather.
Meet at Z westgate from 10.30. leave about 11am. (late start for those who are staying up to watch the Motogp qualifying to get a little bit of a sleep in)
Will figure out somewhere to go between whoever turns up. maybe piha or muriwai via some obscure roads...?

Ribit

Depends on what you call regular. Once every few months.... perhaps the local traffic on KB will pick up as summer rolls in.
Meetups is a good way to join into social rides.
