The view from West is rain over to the north and the NZ city weather says the sun will come out after 3pm and rain will clear up after 6pm. Unfortunatly although I don't mind rain starting while I am out I don't consider going out into it much fun
BoristheBiter
22nd January 2012, 07:50
Yes the rain radar is showing it coming in from the NW.
Might wait till later for a ride, see if it clears up.
But if it isn't raining by 9.30 I will be there.

Could be keen. I've turned up to just one of these rides so far and the pace was good - a fair spread with everyone just riding their own ride.

My dad and i are keen so if the weather is good we will ride up in the morning from Whangarei and then go as far north as the ride takes us before we head home. How many people normally turn up with good weather?
P.S. How do i change the 'L-plate rider' under my name?

I realized that i said ride up, i meant we will ride down to Auckland and meet up with the main group, its good you're going through Whangarei though it makes it a lot more fun to ride back with a group. We went for a ride last weekend and got caught in the the rain then got pinged by a cop, luckily he couldn't catch us both on the radar.

Which main route does the group usually take? The Brenderwyns are so much fun if you've got room to hoon but going through Ruawai and Dargaville has some INSANE straights and some pretty good high speed corners.. Or is there another way?

most k's in one day for me was 910. Got a bit nacked by the end and probably wasn't riding too good by then.
6-700 in one day is about it to stay safe and alert in my opinion.
I know there will be some who think that might be a bit soft but on our sorts of roads it can get pretty tiring if you want to keep up a good pace.
Any way i'm up for it, yeah!

Golly, that was an adventerous ride :scooter: Off into the wilderness trying dsesperatly and successfully to avoid gravel... cos we all know how those pretty faired bikes simply hate stones that flick up and caught in their precious bits
We ended up in Whangarie, not bad considering we left heading for Opotiki and I wasn't even leading.
A lovley lunch was had, including the third girl who enjoyed his milkshake and kidies meal while the men had a beer :drinknsin

Don't mind meeting up at 8:30ish or later which could allow plenty of time to catch a bit of practice or a little bit of a long way round ride there.
Met at Othea Vally Mobil last time, but where ever will suit.

Hi all,
I'm new to group rides but quite interested to know about what might happen on every sunday for the new comer, (other than whats written on OPs first post)
just basically turn up and ride?
would there be any limitations as to which bike? types, cc, etc etc
I've done a long distance trip to welly (in many days) in my old sports bike but not all that psyched about going fast, leaning, kneed down and all that anymore haha,, and just looking for a laid back cruse with some fellow riders :D
Thanks guys!

Welcome,
Anything goes as long as you can do open road speeds. Most of the bikes are sports bikes but often there is a Tenere and some 250's around. There is always someone keeping the group together at the back, so you won't get lost and can run at very much your own pace.
So yes, turn up and ride everyone if friendly and helpful :innocent:
Sometimes the rides are long adventurous affairs when the mood takes, or short breakfast runs when the weather is looking ugly. More than likely you will stop to talk crap and have some coffee and chow somewhere and if its a long day you may even end up at a pub exchanging war stories over a cold one.
I won't be there sunday - I will be riding at the ART day, happy days! :Punk:

Gday mate,
Did you catch the Volvo action? Just saw your profile pic, and i skipper one of the traditional voyaging canoes that welcomed the racing fleet last month. :Offtopic:
I am planning my last ride before i go off to work for 3months sailing through the S Pacific from Tahiti to home via Raro,Samoa,Fiji,Solomons (Pacific Arts Festival),Vanuatu. It will be great, though no room for the Buell.
Also im trying to do a quick Buell sale as i wanted the Uly for my partner to be more comfortable. Anyhow, either way i was thinking of bringing our 11yr old, he's keen. Te Henga/Bethells Beach is on the cards, i live in Whangaparaoa, and another mate who is a rider may be free. We enjoy, we don't race.
Let me know anyhow, otherwise it will be spring b4 I am free to ride social again. Cheers, Jef

Very user friendly bunch of people, go your own pace, you will not get lost as there is normally a Tail end Charley (Or Charlotte) making sure everyone finds the way.
Mostly sporty bikes cruisers, motards etc also attend - legend even tells of a modified GN250 which was brought along under duress and lived to ride another day, but motorway speeds are pretty much required.
I won't be there this week but my bike has been complaining about the boring winter commutes and wants to get out and stretch its legs sometime soon...

Always next time. Good group, 11 bikes in total, most of them ride like you too. Got badly pissed on in Wellsford so turned around and rode back via 16, then scenic drive and towards Piha and back.

Hi there,
Sorry didn't check this thread as I wasn't home much over the weekend.
L plates don't matter. As long as you feel comfortable on your bike. The group splits up according to riding speed and we all regroup many times along the way.
See you next time.

No idea. I'm busy this weekend. Perhaps the original organisers/group may want to post their intentions.

The ride is on a Sunday,
Most regulars will be at puky.
Some are waiting to see what the weather will do.
Any more questions?

I might be unclear or misunderstood rules of the thread, beg a pardon in this case, however sunday's ride would be awesome and I'd love to join, however we will go tomorrow as well, this is gonna be the other ride... If it isn't too much to ride two days abreast :)

Im a newbie and keen to join! Hope you won't mind the L plate. I've got a 250 but she'll keep up fine. Im not sure im going to be able to make it first thing in the morning though. How long do the rides go on for? Is there somewhere I can meet up with the group later in the day?

We also do some rides south but usually talk about it the week before (or in text) as I don't like posting which way we will be heading.
