Right its finally done! Had problems with Youtube taking another video I made (45s of Motogp) as copyright infringement so they cut my limit back down to 15minutes. Still mad about that :angry2:
Anyway, so I loaded it up to faithful old Vimeo - Enjoy the ride from Autoban to Paeroa ( or at least till the battery died )

Its very laborious work to wipe those plates. I don't mind taking the video down if you like, but yeah, nothing illegal was going on and I blocked out the time stamp on the video so you can't even see the speedo if you wanted to.
Carjam as also tightened up requests so its harder to look up stuff.

You can remove your name from the report as well. I did just can't find the form.
Also what was the name of the instructor that said use all fingers for braking at the ACC course.

First up, the instructors were the good guys and were most helpful and don't deserve stick. The main guy was on a big red VTR, I can't remember his name and the other dude was Morne (More-Nah)
If we had the time on the day I would have had a friendly chat to them, but the noobs needed feeding first.

Most of these instructors are LTSA BHS instructors and they must teach you to use all four fingers, unfortunately. It is part of the curriculum like always stopping with your left foot down.

Hey Ntox- I tried your suggestion with boring out holes in the back of the baffles. I bored out four 5mm holes in each baffle. It does sound a bit louder now (which teh wife is not so happy about at 6am), and seems to have less engine braking, and sounds like its able to breathe a bit easier. I cannot say that I can actually notice increased power though (probably because I am too busy holding on for dear life  )
I will be interested to see what it does for fuel economy. Probably nothing the way I ride it...
I figured if I dont like what it does, I can lways just insert rivets in the holes again.

And if I end up with a gixxer (unlikely as they don't really float my boat, either looks wise or the riding experience I've previously had) then it'd be the 750, rather than 600 ;-)

I think we will have to see what tomorrow holds. It has stopped raining now but it is suposed to carry on all day and get better tomorrow afternoon.
I guess we will just wait and see, if it's raining in the morning might just do a normal Sun ride.

I actually saw the van before the detector went off. it just looked out of place.
They do a little sneaky thing on Neilson st and park the van opposite a big auto door so everyone thinks its just the door setting off the detector.

One thing you need to be aware of is that the speed camera vans use the old K band and the lower portion of that. What this means is that you will get heaps of false positives (K Band is used for heaps of things, whilst Ka Band is only Police cars and a stronger signal).
The fact its at the lower end of the band also means you won't get a warning until your right on top of it. So be wary if you get a Detector to still use those eyes!!!!
Reckless
16th March 2011, 15:13
I have left my K band off. With the new cameras you get so little warning its hardly worth going through all the false alerts you get elsewhere. Also less chance as you have to be going away for them to get the plate so we have 50% less chance than cars to get caught and Camera fines don't carry demerits so not as harsh if the eyes miss one! As I say the new cameras give you stuff all warning be aware out there all!
The one you guys all missed must have been well hidden? Kawakawa Bay thats a new one mental note to oneself!

No it was very easy to see, but it was between two cars. My detector picked it up fine. for some reason i get a stronger signal coming towards the front of the van.
Some of the older cars still operate the old radar using K band (have had it go off twice) and the Transfield traffic trucks emit a Ka band.
I have main set to show the frequency so i can now tell whats what but like you said you still have to keep your eyes peeled.

ah thanks for that feedback! Might turn my K band back on!
I have a steering head mount and the way I sit on the Sv I cant see the readout but I know what you mean from in the car. I should try and mount it a bit more forward but I think it will obscure the speedo if I do?
Anyway I didn't buy the fancy bluetooth sender I got a little speaker from dick smith and changed the connectors on an old cell phone curly charger lead to suit. Hooked it up in the helmet. Works well and they say you react quicker by sound alert rather than the flashing light thingy on the visor. I haven't tried the later so I don't really know. But my set up only cost about $20 bucks so its ok for now!
The cops are hitting the bike loop through Clevdon and Kawakawa very hard.
I'd imagine a speed camera there would generate heaps of revenue from cars as well. Wide road, quiet area, no traffic not hard to do a few clicks over the 50k its limited to! I bet that made a few grand over the weekend!!

I have the HARD system and it works fine but i know what you mean when it comes to reacting quicker to sound, also not the best to have a flashing red light in yours eyes at night time. Most of the time i can hear my detector with it turned up full noise.

Tussock was good. it didn't rain all that much so it wasn't so muddy. I am knacked but. 213 km done it total over the weekend and now i ache everywhere.
M bike is dead so it needs rebuilding and it developed a noise halfway round and when we got back to the car i found it was the main engine bolt:gob:. the nut had come off and the bolt was only held in by the foot peg.

Ok guys,
Its time to get organising a ride for Good Friday (Thanks Tania, Great Idea :woohoo:). Schedule and route below is open to discussion and contribution. Format also, but remember if its arranged on here its known by them and shall I say we need to ensure its a civilised ride.
Plan: Meet up early'ish Friday the 22nd of this month (Good Friday) for breakfast. Ride as a group from there through some lovely roads, over to the Coromandel and back via Kawakawa bay. We will do a lunch stop on the way and finish, hopefully for a coffee stop at Clevedon on the way back, after which we can all go our own way (I'll be leading a procession to the motorway for those that dont' know there way from there).
START: Meet from 8am through to 9am for breakfast at Autobarn services on the southern motorway (before the Drury off ramp) If in doubt this is where we are starting (-37.08715, 174.93968)
Depart: 9am sharp
Route: according to this link (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Unknown+road&daddr=-37.1280252,175.0592131+to:-37.195243,175.217006+to:-37.1414273,175.7385025+to:-36.74491,175.72437+to:-37.074926,175.2959764+to:Papakura-Clevedon+Rd&hl=en&geocode=FYAXyv0dSV9tCg%3BFad4yf0dDTFvCik3Olp-IalybTHxRJEGYe8AEw%3BFRVyyP0dbplxCilZde6OZKBybTGho wAHYe8AEw%3BFU1Eyf0dho55CikRTjt1j3lybTHQ0ggHYe8AEw %3BFTJRz_0dUld5CikDnWZ1qltybTHAZAcHYe8AEw%3BFRJIyv 0d6M1yCilvaj-g9phybTExC5EGYe8AEw%3BFWqBy_0dvtduCg&mra=mrv&via=1,2,3,4,5&sll=-36.981712,175.267639&sspn=0.570451,1.454315&ie=UTF8&ll=-37.073806,175.392609&spn=0.56976,1.454315&z=10)
Lunch: somewhere we decide? suggestions?
Coffee at last stop: Clevedon (Expected time of arrival 4:30pm)
Total Distance and Travel Time: 4:35 hours with a total distance of 351Km
Who is welcome: Anyone and everyone, BUT we expect you to be able to maintain an open road speed on back roads. Think competent rider, that can maintain an average speed of at least 80Kph across varied roads.
Whose Responsible: YOU ARE, this is NOT an organised group ride, we will do everything we can as mates to ensure you are heading in the right direction and safe, but YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for your riding, bike, safety and not getting lost et al.
Whose the Organisers: YOU are contribute here and lets get this going :innocent:

Ok guys,
Its time to get organising a ride for Good Friday (Thanks Tania, Great Idea :woohoo:).

Everyone has an opinion.. mine can be found here Riding Articles
:not: Great Stuff! Keep me up till early this morning.
Loading inside peg, call me a noob, but thats news to me. On the brief commute I tried it and sure enough, the bike carved a tighter more stable line through the corner. Obviously need more experimentation with this one.
Other thing, the clutchless upshift. In my MX days it was once in vogue but then our fat next door neighbor, who knew everything, said to my my father - cluches are cheaper than gear boxes, and offered a graphic images of weak little selectors engaging hot swetty gears turning at incredible RPMs :shit: - This ushered in the Keep it open wide and and clutch change, which work find on a 2 stroke 125 which doesn't have a rev limiter.
What was missing from my knowledge banks was the applying pressure to the leaver before backing off the throttle. Also the bit about being able to change a lower RPMs, I thought it was just for wide open track work.
Tried it from 2nd up this morning and found a) gear changed very smoothly and quickly b) coming back on the throttle was a little violent - like when you suddenly snap the throttle on. It didn't take me long before I realized that I was shutting the throttle off too much, and the last few changes were silky smooth and quick.
I have some handling questions, but I might pm them to ya later, don't want to clog up this form now do we

While doing the pumice blast trail ride last year it was complete mud and with a few offs, my left arm cramped every time I pulled the lever in.
Spent the last 20 or so km's changing up and down without using the clutch no problems.

Just for your info guys in my many years of karting the first thing we did to gain more power was remove the clutch basket completely! We do many many thousands of gear changes in a race kart! The trick is to change while there is no weight on the engine. Never had a gearbox disintegrate!
On the MX bike 50% of my changes are zero throttle clutchless changes (up and down). On the road bike I generally always use the clutch I think the gears maybe cut a little different on a road bike as apposed to an MX bike and quite frankly there's no need to treat your bike like that on the road and still go really fast.
Anyway just a few comments!

The first time I was at Hamptondowns I had an SV1000 and it was the last time I attempted the clutchless shift as my clutch hand was getting powned! I kept stuffing up the changes and sometimes not getting a change going etc because of the massive torque going through the gearbox on the SV - but here I wasn't pretensioning the gear leave which I think is the key.

Actually my opinion is pretensioning the gear lever puts weight on the selectors gears etc while the engine is under power which is not good imho? Only do it occasionally off the start line on the MX bike. My changes tend to be zero throttle ones like in the kart. The changes in the kart where off the gas, pull the lever (or steering wheel paddle), on the gas, done very often, very quickly. Changing down was, off the gas, punch down 3 or 4 gears (while braking or chucking it sideways), on the gas. I doubt there's many situations that put more pressure on a gearbox then in a methanol powered race kart LOL!! Although I've been doing it so long I'm not quite sure how anymore?? I do know they are smooth and any other way I consider to be hard on the box? Just my 2c??
Your right about the SV it don't like clutchless shifts LOL!!
Oh EDIT your probably correct on a re read of my post and yours its probably not right of the gas so the bike decelerates but enough to take the weight of the engine so the change can be smooth to the next gear! Dunno technique and timing (Like sex) haha!!

Haven't read your stuff yet my friend but on a road bike on the road Agreed! as said here

If you didn't use the clutch downshifting on the road or track you'd end up with the arse end doing all sorts of wild and unpredictable stuff LOL!!!
I was mainly commenting on the fact that on MX engines it can be done and without any (or to many) consequences on the engine as Java was referencing his 125 smoker days. Was just an interesting point about Karts, clutches, MX engines and clutchless shifting really.
Anyway I'll have a read of some of your stuff seems interesting Cheers!

Well, the first session was busy drying out, to pretty dry by the end. the second session was dry and awesome, and the third and fourth were WET. The rain after the first session was enough to knock out my elcheapo camera. The vid I took of the first session (the only one) , the camera was badly placed, and you dont see much except my butt. So I will spare you all having to watch it for 20 minutes by not posting it.
Ah well, we live and learn,. Next time, it will go inside my helmet.
During the one dry session, I was having so much fun, that I scraped my footpeg (the hero knobs) twice, (and I think I scratched the side of my exhaust - because those scratches were not there before, and they are an identical angle to teh scrape on the hero knobs). Although I STILL have 2mm of chicken strips? Go figure...

Red VTR, stripey helmet? Pics of your bike show it pretty damn close to decking out at the hairpin... very cool.

Difference between tires and bikes ground clearance (dynamic clearance of course).
We get strung up on chicken strips, but seriously they only thing they can show you is that you need better lines  so you don't run off the side of the tires!!! I would say grinding out the pegs whilst still having tire left would be a good indicator.
P.S. Take a quick peek at the latest article on my site.

Ok guys,
Its time to get organising a ride for Good Friday (Thanks Tania, Great Idea :woohoo:).
Sorry, this has to be said. This ride is F*cken dangerous for those without the experience or common sense to respect the road. FFS PLEASE be careful if you haven't done this before, or even if you have.
Post up if you're going to go so those 'organising' it, and those thinking of going know how big the group is going to be. It's important.
Enjoy the ride, it's an awesome bit of road, but lets have EVERYONE back safe and sound.
Thank you.

Weather is looking good for Friday:yes:
Hi Tania,
shall we ride down to the Autobahn together? I'll be leaving around 7.45 from Glendene. Is the Shell at Te Atatu North open at 8am? Could see you there, maybe Glen too. Cheers, lance

No, I disagree. Look at the history for coromandel rides on this site. Don't be a smartass and take heed, this road will bite back.

Well go and take it to another thread. this one is about organised rides on a Sunday or a longer ride with the same people on a different day not the pros and cons of some road.
Good bye.
