(BTW I expect that this won't be an open pub.... I haven't checked but its a good carpark to finish at for everyone).

Go our separate ways from there. A long but hopefully fun filled day. Can I also suggest that we run a tail end charlie and a system of charge and wait so that we are never so far apart and to cater for fast and slow riders.

Remember... if it was arranged here.. then probably the local :Police: know were going to be there so bring a good attitude.

I don't mind being tail end.......probably will end up there anyway :bye:

God I know what you mean... I really need a break and escape is such a good feeling. We see you on the morning or along the way Tania you'll be very welcome.

Personally I'm thinking of a blast at some stage next week down to Palmerston Nth to deliver a chrissy present to my sister and just escape!!!! So relate to the bike out that &(&U#(&$(#&$ feeling.

Hey Sharry, sorry I didn't read this until today... yep made it down to Hamptons. Had a great day, it was hot and fantastic. Even considering I low sided the track bike on the fourth session. I was on a slower lap (1:19 Vs the 1:16's I had been doing) so was surprised to lose it then, but looking at the tires I think I ran out of wear in the heat so lesson learned, don't be stingy on rubber :innocent:.

New leathers now nicely scrubbed in to match the sliders. Minor damage and not even a single bruise on my body so a pretty gentle 54kPH bin. Just need to get myself a new handlebar.

It was almost too hot to be honest, I was keeping a skull cap and shirt in the ice bucket tryin to keep cool

On the rubber side... I ended up having to get 5 new tires today.. CT must love me and my small morgage  But then as usual they took really good care of me.

yachtie10
4th January 2011, 19:57
personally I think its the worst ive seen you ride
But the off may have had contributing factors
there was another bike that went down that was worth a shit load more than yours (and had a good rider)

Glad you enjoyed it

Sharry you can hire leathers for the day onsite

cheers

Yeah I was having real gearbox problems in the first couple of sessions.. thought I was going to join you at corner four a couple of times when the box jumped out of second and then back into it.

Got it fixed later in the sessions though.

Not even a bruise and no real damage (broke a handle bar and everything else cosmetic).

Bit more than 2.5 bikes :innocent: One of my bikes didn't need any tires at all

Can you do the math???

Sharry
5th January 2011, 20:36
OK

Bike 1 = needed no tyres but ya bought it one anyway for new years :)
Bike 2 = two tyres
Bike 3 = two tyres

Or
1 bike needs no tyres
5 bikes all with one new tyre each

Or
Bike 1 = two tyres
Bike 2 = two tyres
Bike 3 = one tyre
Bike 4 = is feeling special cos she got new tyres last year

Nice ride OFAD - good fun route on some different roads. Hopefully you didn't have to que too much at Puhoi for lunch. Was gonna say I'm jealous not to finish the ride but watching the tennis final in the sun with Montana's best ain't too bad either...

Bit of a shame our roads give up the ghost with anything above 25 degrees. Maybe they can divert some of our ACC money into making a road surface that doesn't capitulate on a normal summer day.....!

Look after yourselves over the remainder of the summer, and I'll see you in autumn.

Guy'n'Girls. The ART Days are a hit every time a trott and usually booked out well in advance. This coming session on the 16th does still have some spaces left though in group 1 (slow beginners group).

Many thanks for letting me join you today. It was a good day out for my first Summer ride and we took a few new roads for me so that was good.

Sorry I had to bail early. On the good side, I made it home with 30 mins spare to take my old computer for dumping, so I now have a clean(ish) space in the garage to fill with bike related junk.

Might see you on another one soon.

I am guessing you are talking about Thursday night's North Auckland ride, like a fool and against Hiss's advice and better judgement we went to meet for the South ride mainly cos it was posted on the KB events section (where as the North ride wasnt) and it seemed that more people were planning to meet for it but after riding all the way down there from Devonport on The North Shore and waiting for nearly an hour only one other guy was there, thankfully he was a really decent bloke ( Jafar ), who took us through some twisties to some place that looked like a western saloon bar :2guns: then on down Pioneer Road and ending up at The Village Bar & Kitchen for the hot rod evening, was a good ride and a cool evening in the end (even if we did get f**king soaked on the way back home) :angry2: , but still cant help thinking we should have taken wise old Hiss's advice, lol. :brick:
Can someone please provide details about what is happening with the Sunday's ride this weekend please ? :sherlock: like where to meet and at what time, many thanks in advance. :niceone:

Hi
Info on where to meet and when is on post 1

Next sundays ride will be on but I wont be there as im at hampton downs that day. I think most of the regulars will be at ART day, HD or dessert Storm.

Be helpful if those intending to turn up would post so newbies have someone to meet up with.

See you all the following weekend

I of course will be at the ART Day and so should you!!! For the first time I can remember we still have places for "on the day" entry into group one (newbies). Usually we are either booked solid or very very close to it.

Come on down and have a go, if you have never been on a track before or have been scared off by your last venture THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE. Its friendly, safe and well run. You'll get really great tutition, the chance to get your bike sorted out, lunch and smiles that will last for a long time.

The biggest buzz I always get is the change from nervous first timers to confident track bunnies in a single day, talk about raising your confidence and safety margins for the road, best investment you can get and probably the most fun.

Great day yesterday at ART, the KB guys were tearing up the track, After a great discussion amongst the trainers, Tania took out most improved rider with comments like always on the right line now, always smooth and the real teller, biggest thing holding her back is the bike. At which point it was said if your riding better than the bike you win :niceone::niceone:

Tania wasn't the only one though... A certain Ntox was ripping around the track, rear wheel steering through Jennians and trying to sign his name coming out of Castrol. It got so bad that an instructor had to suggest to him that his tires had had enough and he should consider going home :Police: To his daughters birthday!!! :bleh:

I think I am going to have to start taking instruction from Ntox!!!

The day was a scorcher and starting the day exhausted already I'm sorry if i seemed a little detached, I'm sure some people came up excited about how their riding improved and I was not as full of enthusiasm as usual. By the time I got home I didn't even have the energy to up pack.

Thanks for a great day guys.... always good to see you out there.

A prime example of how not to take a corner :shit:
Approaching the hill, I clipped the left hand side of the repair in the middle of the track just like Nick Cole told us to, pretty much the same as I had been doing for most laps. This time however, I was going just a little bit faster (doesn't take much) and didn't seem to get over the bike properly and by the time I tipped in, I was dragging my toe and rapidly running out of track. The following lap, I slowed down to make sure :)

But as ever, a huge amount of fun was had

dude you turned in too early.... your apex is just as you turn in, as the corner starts. Must have been a pants cleaner required :bleh:

One thing about crossing a patch on a track as a marker is the angle that you cross that at.... the corner was done and dictated by the corner before.. you ran a wide line out of Ford and then where you should have modified your line as a result you hit the same spot but at a different angle and effectively TBoned the corner.

At your level when you get the line that wrong..... start looking at the previous couple of corners.

When you are carrying the speed you are now doing getting it wrong is a much more "interesting" affair isn't it

I do know what you mean, as when we got ours we had never ridden a bike before so we just had to go by what the dealers said.

most are pretty much the same so it is more if the bike fits so you can just ride around some car park, and it also comes down to looking at what you want the bike for, MX, trail or enduro.

looking at going Sat up to the sandpit.

That depends on how you ride
only been 2 tickets in the nearly 2 years of the ride (to my knowledge)

We have only had one off as well (which was a ride home no biggie)

I like to get off the main roads onto quiet roads where we dont often see cops. but to get to those roads you sometimes have to ride the main highways

Also we sometimes have an officer join us

hard to answer but have you been on a thursday night ride lately? i have and they have been very tame.

I think the answer is we are not a group of sports bikers in a race. We go at our own pace which varies. We are also not angels who cruise at below the speed limit.

Reasonably tidy Boris, Did you get much rain?

So a tip or two: Some corners on a track (probably not so much on a road) can benefit from an inside line, allowing deeper braking and more importantly longer on the gas coming out. The hairpin/sweeper before the back straight at Taupo is one of these.

Rather than enter it wide on the right of the track as you normally would you can enter narrow on the left. What happens is you use the fact that the track is quite deep (wide) in this corner to go in, turn sharper but at a slightly slower speed and then get on the gas and drive out. The wide line means you are on your side for a long time (right up to and even slightly beyond the exit) and you can’t get on the gas. The wide line tends to end up wide all the way around and leaves you feeling like you are using ALL the track, but waiting for a chance to get on the gas. The narrow line lends itself to faster entries, a more sharp slower turn and then a straighter more upright drive out on the gas. You could gain a couple of seconds there

Turn six needs a tighter line through it, letting the bike roll wide off the turn only if you can’t hold it down any more... .going wide doesn’t benefit the next corner as it is a slightly opening corner anyway and you just have to cover more track to get around, you might have noticed faster riders passing on the inside here, happens to me as well

Otherwise good lines, just need to push up that corner speed and you’ll be threatening Mike. Good job you weren’t looking at the guy that fell off you could've ended up cuddling in the middle of the track

P.S. Notice I’m not giving Ntox advice anymore... Bugger is getting to fast, pushing me up the Mangamuka’s (I think his horn was broken), but I'm sure I could see his thumb working overtime

I didn't start enjoying myself till the last session. I got a guy to look at my tires, as they look really bad now, so he played with my suspension but that made it harder to turn in, like i had a flat back tyre, but he fucked off and i tried to put it back the way is was and only got it by the last session. last time someone touches my bike.

Not sure if its still like that- but the first about 4 kms of road from Kopu towards Tairua was awful last time I was on it (about Mid December). Roadworks with large stones, making the riding pretty dodgy. You might want to ask around if it is still like that...

Yeah, she was all good fun but the back of my legs are buring as I missed a spot with the sun screen

Funnies part for me was when Red Firestore guy went into that unexpected sharp left we were warned about, trying to wave a warning and negotiate the corner at the same time - (sorry can't remember your kb name now and I am way too lazy to go back and find it in the thread right now).

And Red Triumph guy stalking my ass the whole time, sorry we didn't actually chat, only when I was relaxing in the spa bath did I put two and two together when I remembered the Hamptondowns sticker on the front of your bike. Wish I had had a chat, perhaps when I finally attend a North Ride.

Anyway, its as great fun meeting yall and I look forward to many a twisty and coffee in future.
