This is a regular ride for people who are in (or near) Auckland
all are welcome the. The ride varies but has a regular following and is decided on each time by the attendees .
It is not intended to be a race but we do get some fast riders (and some not so fast)
You should be capable of riding at open road speeds safely and hopefully be able to ride at your own pace (this means not trying to keep up with the rider in front if it is to fast for you)
Don't worry we will wait for you
The ride can go for a few hours (or longer) but we are rarely more than an hour from Auckland.
Just advise us what time you want to be back and we can tell you where to turn back.
As a guidline you can read the following thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/107628-The-Group-Ride-Guide
in particular http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=1129403896#post1129403896
Please post here or PM me if you are interested and I am happy to organise the first few rides
:ride::ride:
We are having a Sunday morning ride at 10 am meet 9:30am onwards for a 10:00 am start
For now will be heading north of Auckland (anyone can suggest a ride)
The current start point is the Caltex Station on highway 17 at Dairy Flat
attached is a map
This is now in the calendar under http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=2616&day=2010-9-19&c=all
Just for clarity I am organising the start time and place but take no responsibility for others actions. You join this ride at you own risk. We have had no injuries so far lets keep it that way
Please make suggestions I am just trying to get this going

Hi Yachtie10
I would like to join you on the sunday ride, May 17th. Does it matter that I'm NOT a speedster? but can go legal speeds. I definately need more riding experience to build up my confidence.

nope not acceptable. must be minimum average speed of 200km/hr+ and miniumum 120km/hr over whole ride. even on the 35km/hr corners on SH16. :first:
Wheelies and stoppies are a must trough town centres to..

The ride is not intended to be super fast but you need to be prepared to fall behind if you are not keeping up (better to fall behind than Bin)
we will stop and wait at the next intersection, or have pointers if enough riders
Do you know the roads around Welsford Mangawhai area? If not you will after a ride or 2
Cheers

5th May 2009, 23:54
Bladeslapper is leading next time?
which would be his first time on the ride
Havnt done 200 on my bike yet (as it would be illegal) have to wait for a track day

Just come along hobbitt, its all about the journey and the bullshit at the other end, not the speed....as a wise man once stated.
I have organised about 15 groups rides over the last few years and not one incident, ride your own ride.

Most of the time we are within 1 hour of Auckland

Great ride. Some good roads.
I've carved a big chunk out of the centre stand :)
Had a huuuuuuuge moment coming back from Mangawhai.
Jeremy and I split from the group to head home via his place.
Pulled out to pass a car, gave it some beans and WHAM - massive tankslapper (my first).
Now I know where they get their name from.
I culd actually hear the rear tyre spinning.
Very lucky that I didn't highside.
For the remainder of the trip the handling was crap. Back end wanted to overtake the front.
Checked the tyres and appeared to be diesel or some sort of residue all over them.
Guessing I ploughed through a diesel spill on the bend and it coated the tyres.
Brushed them down with a rag at Jermey's place and order was restored on the way home.

I went through Old North and then onto the Taupaki rd (thats were the ping occured).
I had slowed down and very pleased that I had. Would have known what I was doing, and be watching a lot more closely, if I had been fully on the gas... I'm guessing it was just a decent fine for the guy in front (not one of us, just another rider I had caught up with).

Don't forget there are also the ATNR and SATNR running each week, they are dark at the moment but pretty easy rides and finish at a pub for a chance to chat with like minded individuals (I avoided right minded individuals because I didn't want to exclude most of us ).

Hey guys,
Dave is away for the next month.. Lucky bugger (enjoy the weather and time with your missus dude!!!). So we need to get these things organised between us.
I'll happily run the ride some of these weeks but can't make all of them and also I much prefer a slightly shorter ride (2-3 hours riding) preferrably witha coffee stop and would love to vary our route a little with some more of lovely roads that make life a joy.
Anyone else interested in stepping up and filling the gap.
Lets keep these going while the weather is improving.

So who's up for a ride in the morning.. usual place, usual time.. I will certainly be there. How about a nice windy ride, lunch at a pub? and bugger off home?
Come on... more the merrier.. if we can get a whole range of people out we can run a pointer system.. let the fast people have their fun and then point. while the rest of us enjoy our own pace??? I'll top or tail.
Springs a comming!!!

Hi
Is this ride for intermediate riders? and also, is there gravel roads involved, or just tarmac? Hope to come if intermediate able and no gravel!!
p.dath
25th September 2009, 17:33
As long as you can ride 100Km/h you should be fine. No gravel roads usually, but Woodcocks Rd (a common favourite) has been re-sealed recently, and may still have gravel patches on it.
However the gravel patches were well sign posted with 30 km/h signs - so if you see the sign, slow down. It really means it!
I can't make it this weekend.

The ride certainly can have some quite technical roads and can go at good pace but all are welcome (assuming you can ride at open road speeds)
You just need to ride at your own pace.
We will wait for you, or have pointers if enough riders.
Weather looks good for Sunday and will be my first real ride after riding a scooter for a month. Looking forward to it.

Yes, very good point... better early than late.... better late than never... except here in which case it's pointless to be late as there will be noone to ride with. So make sure you rewind your watches 1 hour before sleeping tonight.

Yes there are quite a few people on here who race Hyosungs much to everyone else's amusement... ok that was a redundant comment but I had to throw it in there... lol. These rides aren't learner friendly I don't think, do you do illegal pace well?
sl8er4lyf
12th October 2009, 17:54
Haha, illegal pace shunned upon here?
Personally i think the 70kph rule is retarded...
Haha, not liking the hyosung comment already, beats the bus though dude!

Well illegal pace is shunned by the trolls on the forums... and they start all sorts of threads about it, the real bikers you will meet on rides, actually riding bikes - just a tip lol.
Get used to the Hobag comments dude haha :bash::rockon:
would you like to start a thread about the 70 kmps rule, I'm not sure what your referring to...?

Hahaha i think my ego can take a few harsh comments on the bike, i just hold it in high stead personally - treasure is probably a better word.
If you guys dont mind i'd love to tag along and be shown up by your R6? - which by the way is all i have my eyes set on for when i get my full.
Just don't want to be hated on for riding ilegally lol, not that i care for it much, just better to make new friends than new enemies

Welcome to KB
I dont care if you ride a hyobag but not having a full licence is more an issue.
you do need to be capable of open road speeds
dont listen to YamahaR64Life he is just winding you up
cheers
