Tell us how 120/130/140/etc is inappropriate on a straight road, good weather, no traffic...
    Illegal does not equal inappropriate.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    It's inappropriate for your wallet.

    Goes to 'illegal'.
Only a safety issue when SWMBO finds out...

It isn't...police aren't paid to think though.

Negative. They are paid to enforce the law. It is up to the courts to make decisions.

    Yawn...samo-old-same-old..

So it's got to come down to

"You're a 40 year old that never crashed and your on a bike in good order and you have a full bike licence so I guess it's ok"

at one end of the spectrum.

And "Oh, you're new at motorcycling and you only have a learners licence and I see you've had a couple of tickets for cutting corners and going through a red light and your bikes tyres are a bit shonky and your steering head bearing is shot so I guess your speed is inappropriate"

at the other end of the spectrum.

And a miriad of variations of the two with the commensurate miasma of trying to sort it out.

And anybody getting a ticket for speeding in the above type scenarios will invariably feel they've been hard done by regardless of circumstnaces - and will no doubt pull out some story how another cop somewhere else had pulled up them/their brother/cuzzie/mate who was doing EXACTLY the same speed etc and got let off.

Put down a blanket speed limit and everybody knows where they stand.

101kph onwards and your exceeding the speed limit - go as fast as you want to and wear the consequences if you're pinged.

And then get on KB and you eyes out about how unfair it all is...

Yup, the rules are clearly laid out. IME police officers are generous with their disrcretionary powers, can't ask for much more than that.

None of her majesties finest at the track. (well none giving tickets anyway!)

105 is getting pretty anal, roads are no different here to NZ - cops don´t bat an eyelid if I´m doing 140 in a 120. They don´t hide on straights with a radar gun in rush hour - they DO stand around the side of the road and on the level crossings by our kids schools at picking up and dropping off time EVERY day. No one objects to that.

people become inattentive to whats happening because they are looking so much at the fucken speedos.
ive seen it so many times.
many people actually look at their speedos more than they look at their mirrors.

Luckily I shall be traveling on my Gixer thou this holiday period... Gixxer > V6 Commodore.

Did anyne see that programme 'crash course' on Thursday night... that coppa in the mufti Maxima and the speeds he was pulling to catch 'speeders' going 10-20kmh over the limit up around the Albany, Coatesville/riverhead highway. Unbelieveable, and just goes to proove what a crock of shit the whole speed campaign is. His driving made us sport bike riders look like saints.

It all comes down to enforceability, not fairness. If there was an attentionometer which gave cops an arbitrary reading of how much attention a driver was giving to the road, then that'd be enforced, and the roads would be safer. But all they have is radar guns, breath testers, and compliance checks, so thats the focus of the enforcement.
