    New Carb!

Got the procycle TM40 flatslide carb kit last week...
...So good! Feels like a YZF/CRF/KXF 450 on acceleration now
    So responsive!
Most of the fitting went super smoothly - even got round to T -ing (pet shop has the parts) off the 3 vent hoses and putting extra breathers up under the seat, and used the old carb vent container for the hose ends - perfect fit!
Only hiccup was the new motion pro throttle cables that come in the kit. Took me ages to get those set so the throttle snapped back well, but also with not too much freeplay in the twistgrip - still not perfect, will keep fiddling...
The new throttle feels a bit stiff as well, not like its binding, but due to the stronger spring I guess, not quite used to it yet. May lube the new cables next to see if that helps, shouldnt need any lube though?
Think I'm gonna take the tank and seat off again and re-fit the cables again to put my mind at rest.
Am I missing a trick here? or am I just limp-wristed?
Even with the (much) stronger spring and (slightly) fiddly new cables, this carb is awesome!

Check that the cables can be lubed first, some cables have an inner sleeve that once lubed is stuffed, you may make your issues a lot worse.

really? I've always lubed my cables. (not on a dr650, just got one yesterday). I always thought you have to lube cables... you learn new things every day i guess
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

BMW cables you never ever lube. A quick google indicates Motion Pro do their own brand of cable lube so I guess with those you can.

On a related note though I also wouldn't expect brand new cables to require lubing.

I've got some brand new Motion Pro DR650 throttle cables here.

I have a sneaking suspicion they're for a TM40 though as there's no way in hell you can use them with the FCR.

They're also very tight and inflexible...

    Hi all

I recently got myself a new DR, 2010 model in white. Love it and couldn't be happier with it, except for the seat of course.

5700 kms in 2 1/2 months, a decent percentage of that on gravel. I've fitted a Ventura rack, gp custom bashplate (awesome) and an IMS 18.5 tank arrived and went on on Friday. Next up will be a Scottoiler and heated grips.

Nearly time for the 6K service and tyre change. I'm still on the OEM Bridgestones which have actually been quite impressive onroad but now have nothing left on anything remotely slippery.

Question - I'm keen on any advice on the next tyre. I'm leaning toward something a bit more knobbly but still durable and safe on the road. Anything outstanding on the market atm? Cheers

    So predictable.

Something round, black, cheap and knobbly, though Nordie really is the the person with his wallet on the pulse on that one.

Otherwise Dunlop 606 get good reviews on the front, Mitas E-07 last a good while on the rear.

Cheap is good lol, thanks chaps, looks like I have a bit of research to do. I'd better hurry up as I've only got 300 kms left to decide

Mine felt a bit stiff at first but has freed up a fair bit since then, the spring is definitely stronger so takes a bit of getting used to

Just checked my routing and I'm gonna re do that. Did you lube the new cables? They do feel a bit stiff and notchy for brand new - says not to lube on the procycle website...
    Better just ride it!
