Yep very interested if it will fit the GS. is it off yours or a spare you had lying around.

I did do a bit of research on the basic & klahari last year. Great concept I thought getting rid of all the surplus parts & making a cool looking bike out of them.
I may have to paint my frame blue next year

After three years of grief and ruined rides with my 2007 Dakar it will be good to be able to get back into the big South Island rides, with Debbie on the back, during 2012. How is that for progress, right back where I was in 2000 (except I have progressed to Paralever I suppose).

I saw that this weekend in Motorbike trader mag. I hope you don't park it too close to mine. Mine has more of a 'patina of use'

As a matter of interest what do you guys cruise at- around 3000RPMish?
How many revs would you take your GS to before you would get worried?

Mine doesn't have a rev counter and my speed is limited to 100km/h by the law

I'm thinking about a track day. I try not to go over 90kms now on the road- anything over that the tobacco won't stay alight.

You can run them up to redline & just a bit above. They are a strong motor. Careful on the downshifts when hard on the brakes - they can clutch hop. At least with the GS you don't get the shafting jacking & drop when on & off the throttle. Throttle off when fully committed to a corner is a no-no on the RS. You'll run wide & lose ground clearance

Just don't dragrace them too much - you'll be able to smell the clutch when it gets hot.

My RS has done a track day or three....

Just got back from Greymouth and there was 2 75 boxers there, 1 an R100 and I don't know what the other was , They were both racing Post Classic and didn't disgrace themselves
You'll just need a taller screen to help with the 'baccy issue though

One of them was Kane (or at least his Bike) from R-Twin Works in PNth. I saw that last Sunday when I grabbed a gearbox cover for the RS from him. He'd been out helping someone else get their bike ready for the races too.

Yeah Kane was going well, leading race 2 for a few laps in front of the big GS/GSX Suzukis, dunno what happened to the Suzukis in the end but think he was second behind Bernard on the Moto Guzzi, 4th in race 1

Bike 2 was Sean Ellis bike with a friend of Seans ridng it

Further to the basic info, i just read this this morning. if it gets lost it's the post in the Basic Register - Photos on gsers.com
You may need a password if you're not a member.

    http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthr...=1#post2871996

The gist of it was that a character always wanted one, found one in Germany, flew out & befriended the seller, an engineer, who along with other more senior engineers worked on the line making the basic. They weren't in fact made up of obsolete parts but retooling in the factory was required to manufacture some parts. As we already know they were 80s rather than 100s due to the universal opinion the 80s were smoother.
    An interesting read...

Am I the only one that gets really pissed off searching thru the parts for a BMW (substitute your own specific brand & part) & seeing the same thousand bloody adverts for Honda fork seals, folding dirt bike brake levers, KTM piston rebuild kits, skull flavoured led indicators etc etc...
There must be someway to filter all the crap out...

Hey James, don't forget about the F650 Funduro we saw racing there.
He rides it to the meets, tapes up the lights & then races.
    Just how it should be.....
