If bike shop thinks it's the fuel pressure regulator, they shouldn't think, they should test - simple splice in a pressure gauge and check, usually abt 40PSI. If they can't check that then swap shops, they can't cope with EFI (or their "guessing" is aimed at your wallet?)
Only recently got my 1100GS but in all 21yrs riding EFI K-series never had a FPR die; have read that the Hall-effect sensors (aka HES, read solid-state ignition points) do die - either the little sensors or the wiring - due to heat. Again, the EFI shop should be able to test - if not, print out the test doco from the ADV HAll of Wisdom http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/ and ask them for a BIG discount for doing their job for them! They're under the front engine cover so not too deep to get to.
EDIT: - uploaded to my tesch stuff album as HoW seems down ATM...
Final chance - check the sidestand cutout switch if someone hasn't already removed it. Does the fule pup run in the tank when you switch on the ignition (with the kill switch on)? If not the sparks are probably getting overriden by the sidestand safety switch, which IIRC also disables the pump.
Worth a check!
Good luck

He who shall go stately at the back and not stress out.
So Gareth what was it you said about MaxF's "Funky ass curves"? - God, now I'm worried...
Check the HES: Remove the front plastic belt cover, remove the spark plugs. Put the plugs back in the leads and ground them. Turn on the ignition with side stand up kill switch in the run position and gerabox in neutral. Grab a spanner or ratchet and socket and turn the crank clockwise you will soon see if it has spark once you find one spark position (this is where there is a gap in the can behind the bottom pulley) at 180deg there should be a second one. Although both plugs fire at the same time there must be 2 spark points at 180deg to each other. If you have got spark then you should have the injectors working easily checked by removing one (or listen for the click of the injector) and winding the crank past the sensor the injector should spray. There are other things it could be broken wires up by the ignition steering head fuel filter split this was a problem with them once if the filter has never been changed or split hose in the tank.
So you need compression, spark and fuel all in the right order.
not likely to be the FPR in my opinion but this is easily checked with a pressure guage retrofitted into the fuel line the pressure should be maintaned at 3 Bar

Off Topic, but do any of you guys have a March 1998 copy of Kiwirider by any chance? Some people like to keep their copies. I am not one of them :-).

It's starting to look like a real bike. Will you be fitting carburetors?

Hello Steve, happy new year to you aswell. They left me alone much to my discust. Not that imprest with the surgeon he just siad he didn't operate on collar bones and that was that. Haven't seen anyone about it for nearly 3 months. I suppose it must be healing but its a bl--dy funny shape now and a pain in the arse with the car seat belt. But I am sure I will get use to it one day. So in short it must be sticking itself back together. How is yours going are they going to leave the plate in or eventually take it out. Are you going to the DB? How is the 1200 going?

Apologies for butting in uninvited but I broke my collar bone 30+ years ago and nothing was done to set it correctly. Just wear this sling and you'll be fine. Yeah right! I now wish I had had it re-broken and set straight. Problem is if it's not straight the shoulder joint is not properly supported. Usually not a biggie but I'm now finding a few things give me twinges. I really cannot understand why any clavicle break is allowed to just set itself. No way it will be straight with muscles pulling on it. Cost of surgery for plating I suppose.
Now you have got me going. when I first saw the registrar about 10 days after the accident at the hospital he said it was a 50-50 call on surgery but they did nothing I was a bit pissed I tell you, so after another visit I went and got a second opinion in Wellington and he said it would heel but take a long time but gave me a letter that suggested surgery would be the best option for a speedy recovery with options to take the plate out again later down the track. The orthopedic surgeons name above the door at the hospital got that letter 4 weeks later he finally made an appointment to see me sat me down in his office and told me he did not operate on collar bones unless there was great amounts of pain. There in lies the problem no brain no pain. He also said that if they operated on all broken collar bones then they would have to build a new hospital just for those operations. He also said that modern thinking I might have read on the net came out of USA because of all the surgeons looking for work over there.
And I was sitting there thinking what a twat where is your head up your a--. Anyway I figured I was screwed 10 weeks had passed and it had started to heel and another reason is that all the orthopedic surgeons here in PN all work out of the same building. Mates mate.
So I have seen him once and wont be going back to see him again.
So much for ACC I thought insurance was for putting thing back to the same condition as it was prior to an accident.
As for funny twinges tell me about it. Anyway I am just going to get on with it things could be alot worse. End of January and I am getting back on the bike and see how things go pain clothing etc etc
Here is the pic.
