I was thinking that looks impossibly clean. Oh. 900km.

What sort of plonker buys a bike and barely gets past 1st service in coming on 18 years?

Mine wasn't the last model and I bought it when they dropped the price to $10,000 (from 12,000 IIRC). So yeah, he may be optimistic.

They're a very good bike IMO. Having said that my Monsters fill the same niche but make cooler noises.

BIKE magazine rated them one of their 10 'best of the best' at the time. The results were far better than might be expected for a parts bin special. Mine had an Ohlins and a Powerful Commander with a custom map so it was extra good. It's my favourite bike.

If you added an Ohlins and a Power Commander to that bike at Casbolts it would be getting seriously expensive.

She's getting expensive to service though. Collected today after a couple of weeks... $2,369.34

That didn't even include the front fork inner tubes I sourced, Honda wanted $600 EACH
There were brake pads all round, fuel line, a rear tyre (the other got 2 punctures in 2 odd weeks) and then plenty of labour. Fork seals had to be replaced because of the pitting on the forks damaging the fork seals, hence replacing the tubes...

But Ohlins rear, Racetech internals in the front, I still enjoy riding her 15.5 years on...

I had the same suspension setup and it was mint. Good tyres etc. First bike I got my knee down on. (on a trackday, closed course, professional rider blah blah). I will wander up the road to Casbolts and have a look.

The new dude who owns it has transformed the joint. Definitely worth visiting now.

Passing through Sydenham the other day and saw a Honda dealer where one hadn't been before. Only found out who it was looking at the Hornet ad on here.
It's a risk moving away from Manchester St. Casbolts only moved to Manchester St because the others were there and they were out of the way.
Even further out of the way now.

there are zero motorbike dealers in Manchester St now. Just as we moved into our new office very close by. At least George Henry is still there.

The instruments didn't get the treatment that the rest of the bike clearly did. The faded "redline" passes me off, and the chrome band around the Rev counter is damaged.

But fuck me if that doesn't look better than when Honda sent it out.

They didn't polish the cam covers like that I bet. And the sparkplugs aren't original, pah knock 10k off for that.
And another 10 for being a Honda, make that 20.

Steve McQueen's sandcast sold for $155kUSD earlier this year. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...50-sandcast-2/.

Having said that, it was Steve McQueens. here's a list of what they've sold for on BAT (sign up for their newsletters - thank me later)

    https://bringatrailer.com/search/?s=CB750+sandcast

My sense is that like a lot of things (cough, property in NZ cough) values peaked last year and stuff is worth less this year than last. People have less optimism and less cash money or the propensity or ability to borrow it.

Anyway, old boy asking NZD$80k is around $48kUSD. So I stand by my initial assessment: it is still optimistic and quite substantially. I predict that if bought it will be bought by a collector/investor, not a motorbike guy, and it will never see the light of day until he tries to move it on for double its money.

If I was going to buy another CB750 (unlikely at this point) I would be looking for a tidy F2. they're about $6 to $8k US.

So 1969, a 25yr old would be 78 now. Any older and that's a big heavy bike. Any longer and it will be less relevant than a GSXR750F to the disposable income set.

So yeah likely peak value has probably passed, world economy aside.

Get those Z1 restos finished quick.
