Front fork is at cycletreads to have seals replaced. Blew on me yesterday at the start of SASS.
That's why you shouldn't hang out with South Aucklanders, dodgy folk they are, you'll never know what obscenity they'll do to your bike next time.

These are the excercises that have to be done in the Netherlands if you want to get your license. Can't get google to translate the website so here's a little recaps:
It is mandatory that you complete at least one excercise from each cluster
The examiner chooses three exercices you have to complete
So in total 7 excercises have to be done with confidence and up to standard. If you give the examiner the idea that you're not in control of the bike, you fail. If you can't get it right on a second try... you fail. (no pressure there)
Cluster 1:
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/cluster1-Achteruit-parkeren.jpg
Parking the bike, you'll have to push it back into a carpark. (Can't be on the bike)
Cluster 2:
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/cluster2-1-Langzame-slalom.jpg
Slow slalom (mandatory) - Done at walking pace, with your feet on the pegs and without touching the cones
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/cluster2-2-Wegrijden-uit-parkeervak.jpg
Riding out of a parking space - Sharp corner to either left or right without losing balance
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/cluster2-3-Denkbeeldinge-acht.jpg
Figure 8 - Write a nice smooth number at a constant speed within a rectangle
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/cluster2-4-Stapvoets-rechtdoor-rijden.jpg
Riding at walking pace in straight line - keep your feet on the pegs and don't go faster than the person walking next to you
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/Cluster2-5-Halve-draai.jpg
U-Turn - speaks for itself
Cluster 3:
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/Cluster3-1-Uitwijkoefening.jpg
Evasive manouver (Mandatory) - You're riding 50km/h and oh shit there's a truck/car whatever suddenly on your side of the road. Miss that shitty driver and get back to your own side of the road before you hit the wall.
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/Cluster3-2-Snelle-slalom.jpg
Quick slalom - min. speed 30km/h and do it smoothly
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/Cluster3-3-Vertragingsoefening.jpg
Delay excercice O.o - from a full stop you speed up to 50km/h, slow down to 30km/h after the gate and shift down at least once, and navigate the cones that follow at that speed.
Cluster 4:
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/Cluster4-1-Noodstop.jpg
Emergency stop (Mandatory) - min. speed is 50km/h and stop as quickly as you can with the shiny parts up and the rubber on the road
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/Cluster4-2-Precisiestop.jpg
Precision stop - min. speed 50km/h and stop at predetermined spot.
https://www.cbr.nl/imgcontent/Cluster4-3-Stopproef.jpg
Brake excercise - Just regular braking, just before you come a complete stop you downshift to first so you can ride off again. (think of it as a traffic light excercise or something
-----------------------
If like me you started with your motorcycle license, you're not allowed on the road unless you got your vehicle control certificate.
If you already have another license it's up to the instructor whether or not he thinks you got enough control over the bike to take you out for a ride on the road. And even then it usually consists of riding to and from the storage to training area.

If my neck decides to start working the way it should I`ll be around.
These are usually taught in 4 mornings before you do the exam. Works like a charm, you got a good a idea of what the bike can do and cornering goes reasonably smooth from the get go.

It's tax time again so I'm going to be in the big city again next week.
Thought I might try and run a controlled braking session on Wednesday evening at the Albany Carpark - wet or dry.
Won't do the ride from Westgate as I'm in the car and don't want to suggest Ridge Road in case you know who gets all shitty again!

I can be at the car park by 7pm if necessary but had planned to be there by 7.30pm which is generally about when the Z Westgate riders arrive. If I know that there are going to be riders who want to start the training at 7pm I will be there for that time. Extra braking practice is always useful. If, however, you only want to talk garbage at 7pm then I'd prefer the 7.30 start. Talking garbage can be done at the pub afterwards.
As for a rain coat. Didn't bring one with me as, since moving to Northland, I've almost forgotten what rain and cold look like. So, if it is persisting down on Wednesday night, if anyone has a cheap light raincoat suitable for an elderly, average height, overweight instructor to borrow for an hour or so I would be most grateful. Even a folding umbrella would help!

I've got a parker you can borrow. It's the one I use at the track.
I've posted this up on Facebook as there are a few on there that are not on here. Last couple of weeks we have had very new riders come along which I think would benefit more from going straight to the carpark to make the most of your time than to meet at Z.
I would like to get to the carpark as soon as possible to make the most of the session.
MarkW
14th April 2015, 09:08
Thanks for the parka offer, yes please.
And I'll be at the Albany Car park ready to go from 7pm. If numbers are larger then I may run say 3 30 minute sessions, each session having 4, 5, 6 riders say actually practising whilst the rest either watch closely or socialise. Having a shorter gap between each practice run (with a small group) is more productive than have a 20 bike group all at once. So if you want extra practice then turn up early! First in, first served.

Its about people sharing their views and experiences and for those people who come along to assimilate that information. Choose what sounds like the good bits, and reject the bad. There are plenty of people far superior to my abilities, but I contribute what I know, and the people attending can use the same process.
I won't be able to make it now, headlight bulb has died.

Hi all. As it's Brian's (Gravelrashkid's) last NASS for the next 3 years, he's leaving us for china! I thought it would be great if everyone turned up.
However given the weather forecast tonight I think maybe heading straight to the pub at 7:30 might be an option.

Was gonna wait another year until I started it but decided that nows the time to pull trigger. Front brakes squeeling, potentally warped rotors, tappets ticking, rough idle, 51k on clock. Gonna document it on here hopefully.
Got another bike in the shed that needs to be moved before work can commence though. Hopefully crack the motor cases next month and get the head and crank sent away.

Sorry I wont be along again tonight. I still have an issue with the charging system on my bike. Went to get a new reg/rectifier to resolve it, and got one of the newer style MOSFET units (more by accident, because they were in stock, while the standard shunt ones were two weeks away). Of course, the connectors are different, so I now have to modify the wiring to fit it back to the bike.

Well I finished fitting a new MOSFET regulator/rectifier last night, and if all the claims are true about their lifetime, it should last the rest of the bikes lifetime. Painfully the new regulator/rectifier had different mounting holes and connectors, so I had to re-terminate the stator and battery wires onto new connectors.
However after a week of trickle charging the battery is not able to hold a charge, so off to get a replacement battery today now.

I was filtering stationary traffic at 10-15kmh, guy didn't see me and decided to move a bit towards right lane ... without any indication, unexpectedly, right in a front of my nose (actually moved in me). The traffic was stationary, however the queue in a front started moving, so the guy (probably) decided to start changing the lane in advance. Speed wasn't high, it felt like I fell from a small chair, I am ok.

This guy know knows what's up haha! We usually just ride from Westgate to Albany at a pretty relaxed pace. There's a girl with a GN125 who comes along usually so you won't be the only one :). Pull the clutch in, rev to the power band, drop the Clutch
If that doesn't work, you might need to bounce the front wheel to persuade it to come up, if it still doesn't work, lean back

I used to take my Hayabusa fairly regularly. You can do a uturn in less than two parking spaces there. Less than 1 1/2 if you're really on your game.
The RC track over at the stadium is good value also. The hairpin is gnarly but possible.

That's because you've got a 600 :). I've heard tapping the rear brake compresses the front forks and you use the rebound to pop you up. Useful for your bike, if you did that on a lams bike I don't know how far you'd get lol. I run up to about 20k, lean back, pull clutch, roll on gas and drop. Seems to work okay but I still have some difficulty keeping it up (yeah that's right haha).

Hey Guys,
Not sure who is running NASS these days? Been quite a while since I have had the time to be involved (or an appropriate road bike :shit: ).
Just wondering if you guys are getting all revved up about the ART Days, used to be the NASS guys dominated Group 1 at ART... but then I guess there were a few of us instructors who were involved in NASS then as well.
If you're not sure what I am talking about check out AMCC's Website (http://amcc-dev.org.nz/index.php/menu-ridertraining/menu-art-feedback.html) or grab me or one of the others and get some info.
First one kicks off the season this Saturday and there are still places.
