Mrs and I will be there look out for red white and black 07 gsxr with yoshi can.
Best thing about the day is seeing the faces of the kids who get a ride on the bikes.
I had the brother of a boy with cancer on the back of the gsxr last year.
He loved it

thats the thing about 600's
they have so little torque compared to a litre bike
its all good tho.. if i was worried about torque i'd by a vtwin..
its new, shiney, and as koz said, is more managable for a noob like me

Finally found you guys, hey thanks for the invite to your patch today, Snake and I (Caseye) enjoyed the hospitality and of course the run and the toy giving.
We are going to try and get the Blast From The Past Riders group to organise a ride that goes South and arrange a meeting somewhere with you guys and girls.
Cheers again everyone, look forward to meeting up again soon.

Great to meet up with you guys. We ride all Sundays (weather permitting) and have headed north a number of times. Done Port waikato, Manakau Heads, Whangamata etc. Keep an eye out on the calander, it generally goes up on the thursday. Usually have anywhere between 12-18 bikes and would be more than happy to meet up with you guys whenever it fits in.

You made a good decision dude. Going from a 250 to a 600 is a safe jump and you have probably already found that the 600 has plenty of push for you.
Quite a few people have told me i will probably never reach the end of my 600 on the road, it still gives me the willies on occasion :D

only if you do not have the maturity to ride it gently-like me.
you do not have to watch the rev's as much, the old gixxer motors had heaps down low, so you just cruise on the torque

  But seriously, you have got a point, i guess we gotta have a go to know.
I for one don't have the experience to handle a litre bike, will be waiting till the 6 doesn't give me the :shit:

mmmm torque is good...but of course, I have the best of both worlds.
An R1 doesn't have torque anyway ;) so Sir Rock, you would have had to look at a different marquee for a pull monster. Not a trumpet because they suck :)
Mr. Rock
3rd March 2009, 07:50
the r6 is more than fast enough for me.. i was suprised to find that the r6 is about 5nm of torque off the trump so has a little bit of torque
PaddyFZ1
3rd March 2009, 08:04
The thous are easy to ride slow, i can take off at just over an idle.
You need to look at where the bikes are making the torque, not just compare the numbers. Id be guessing the trumpy makes the torque lower in the rev range than the R6.
Mr. Rock
3rd March 2009, 08:13
oh yea.. i always forget the other half.. not just numbers but where they are too..
anyone going to pukekoe this weekend to watch the bikes?

hahah I forgot you haven't been on a ride for a while. We're having to talk people out of getting them otherwise it won't be fair on the snot brigade. They're starting to take over...slowly
Although it was quite funny that the ride two weeks ago had two R6's the same year and two daytona's the same year (which were smart enough to be different colours haha). Pity the Kwaka's were different otherwise we could have got into team tactics.
(PS The "something else" for my bikes is one of the "sewing machine" variety :))

Yeah was a good ride :)
Your's was cleaner tho hehe.
Good news is my injectors are fine, my bike was underpowered because of the fistfull of bugs in the airflow filter and a it looks like the air-flow meter is getting tired, did a whole pile of cleaning out the airbox and checking sensors and the bike is now re-tuning itself to having an easy airflow :D should be back up to speed soon :headbang:

See koz, having quaint things like carburettors are good. Means that if you pull them apart as long as you put all the bits back together correctly it'll still work
and yes the older style gixxas are simply amazing to ride. :shake:
I'd recommend them to anyone :Punk:

This is the ride that we are planning for this sunday. Bit of a long one, but we will have a good ride and plan to have plenty of stops for coffee and smokes along the way.
If any people have a bit way to get back from Te Kuiti, please share, but a nice cruise up the main road, suits me.
Will get Adam to post up on the Calander soon.

no worries man, yeah it needs pretty much all the code for it to work properly, the code embeds a special object to the page which needs most of it, you could take out the comments but i just copy and paste the lot :)

PLSE NOTE : the route's highlighted on motowhere maps DO NOT ALLOW FOR TIKI TOURS they are purely where/how/when we will be travelling from one point to the next whlist trying to cover as much ground as possible, sightseeing will be conducted on the individual days as I have kept travel time & distance between points relavent .

Hi Y'all
Did any of you go on the Wespac Charity Ride in Akl on Sunday?
It was pretty cool. 1000+ bikes, 12k raised, visit from the Chopper, bikes as far as the eye could see on the motorway.
Lights through Akl city set to green for the bikes.
Sadly I didn't have my camera, it was on birthday party duties with my better half. (not her birthday LOL). If anyone went, did they get any pics?
Or even better a vid.

Yep it was a very goodin, only had rain once or twice briefly. Pity more bikes didnt come! 8 bikes went with 3 new/newer riders to the group. Adamm missed us by 5 minutes but luckily we took the long way to Kihikihi and he was waiting there for us. Kihikihi to Tokoroa was a great ride, good road surface, long sweeping corners and a lot of fun. First coffee at Tokoroa, then the back road to Mangakino (didnt go state highway 1 way). Again some brilliant straights, a little rain (which caused a rethink of the route) and we went Mangakino direct back to Kihkihi which had some great twisty road and good straights and the most awesome bridge which we stopped on and all got virtago. Back to Kihikihi them Pirongia for final coffee stop and chat and then home. back about 4.00ish. Yet again good roads, good company, good fun.

Hey man, i fell badly at training - my fault... squished the AC joint and its fairly badly inflamed. Pain aint that bad but its enough to upset my concentration and make me real jumpy through left handers swerving while dropping into a corner isn't fun  i think it might be alright for the sunday ride but can't guarantee anything yet.

Yeah thats what I think but my reasoning for letting the shop do it is if you take your bike for a wof and give them a little job to do they are not so picky in looking for other faults. Always seems to work in the past!!

What do you use rear brakes for? Most of the stopping power comes from the front  (more so if the back if off the ground or only just touching...)

Wicked, glad you're doing well down there, funny thing about hot chicks and study is it makes you go to class but doesn't help the concentration hehe
Yes I could see how that could be a problem :shifty: only problem is one cant afford to not pay attention in class. The geog lecturer is fairly speedy, a fair amount of stuff to get covered in 50 minutes.

Yeah you are probably right, just hate arguing with wof guys. Last wof for Trina's car said the front light was 2cm's to low, the door handle was loose, 2 tires wouldn't be warrantable in 6 months so fail. jeese she only does 4000 kms a year in it!! However Boyds have been good and only failed me last time for some cracks in the tire (plenty of tread though). suppose better to be safe than sorry.

Hate those vehicle testing stations which miraculously have a beaurepairs, panel beater, auto electrician etc etc attached. Seems a good opportunity for backhanders. 5deg with rain and wind today. These people have a funny idea about summer
Just sent Trina to get some sunscreen. That heat out there could be dangerous watching cricket for 6 hours in the sun with a cold beer (I hope its cold, guess you don't have to worry about that down there). FYI the perfect temperature to serve beer at is 4 degrees:Offtopic:
Crazy day at work, can't login to mainframe as citrix server portal is down (whatever that means) so I get internet but no emails, no excel, no word so basically can't do anything (only one smallish conference and everyones checked out and no checkins to after 5) but read kb and go to the cricket. What a bummer of a day.

Good question, I forgot that you are a student at Otago so need everything spelt out ad infinitum. The perfect temperature for beer to be served at is for the beer to be chilled to 4 degree's (you do know what a degree is don't you??). Although many NZ'rs and Aussies prefer it colder, by reducing the temperature the beer is served at means that it cannot give it the fullest best bodied taste.
By the way if you leave a beer outside at the moment and leave it for a while the temperature down there only needs to drop 1 degree and you will have the perfect beer!!!

Errrr...far be it for me to disagree with ya Murray but I would have to say it depends on the beer...IMO, 4C is too cold for a genuine english bitter for example. But it is of course, eminently suitable for the local swill that nobody wants to taste anyway....:dodge:

Show of hands, who can get a 'day' off one Sunday and how much notice does everyone need? I'm thinking about the go-kart session. That one will need a bit of organising (numbers, booking, etc) so was wondering who would be interested and who could get a decent chunk of the day off. The more people, the more time we would spend going through heats etc.
It'll also have to be a fine down since no one would want to ride somewhere wet, then race a kart wet.
I would say if we allow for a good chunk of the day we'll want piss off partners. In saying that, it's always good to see partner rivalry :) If they can keep up :jerry:

:) Yeah i know some of those roads were up in the district plan for sealing a few years back.. Doesn't matter much if we just go from Te Anga straight to Waitomo then down Fullerton Rd.. then i know it's sealed all the way.. <---as for gas you'll need to be full at hamilton and refill at Te Kuiti (158km)(or 194km for the longer way that would probably be best if i scouted road conditions by myself first)

How about if we plan for a go-kart missheone (do you like my french?) for next Sunday? Brooke and I can get it sorted. If the weather looks bullocks we'll have a back-up ride.
Of course there will be only 2 rules - dirty driving will be punished severly (good, clean, close, racing is the order of the day) and what you wear up is what you race in - full leathers, sliders, jackets, gloves, the works.

Well, here's the tough part. Depending on what we do and where we go. But it would be safe to say you may be looking at $50 pp. All the tracks in the land of Dork are pretty pricey but they have much longer tracks and much faster cars.
At $50/pp I'm thinking we'll have to lengthen it out to not next week but maybe a few weeks after that. Gives everyone time to sort out some $$$.
The only reason I'm thinking of doing longer races is that we don't want to travel up there, spend $20-25 on 15 mins of racing then come back. I'd much rather make it worth while. That's just may view.
I know we spend $45 I think at Hamilton and it's too tight in my view.

I dont think a set of brake pads means its on its last legs. In the 16 months Ive had it - 1 new tire, rear shocks, 1 new clutch cable and new brake pads. sounds pretty good to me. Total cost round $600 (before brake pads) - how much you guys spent on your bikes (or on bikes) in the last year?????

Now the stuff i wanted to put on it or buy for it was about $1000 but i didn't need to buy that stuff.
Jeez buying the gear cost me a packet tho.
I'd be close to $800 if i had to get a front tyre as well :(

Never feel bad about buyin tires, they keep you on the road and on your bike :)

:D:D
well that's alright then, I thought you had something more wrong with the brakes apart from pads.
Mine has cost me zilch, nada, zero (apart from buying it and adding handy things :))

Ah the buying of the new bike, then the scheduled servicing and the way you guys ride the new tyres every 3-4 thousand k's!!!
Well I'm hoping its only pads, the back disc sort of makes a grinding noise when you put it on hard so assume its pads?/ And while I'm at it I may as well do the front ones as well as they are a bit spongey and having a quite weighty bike best to get them all up to best condition I think.
Yeah I'm on hols for the week :wari:

LOL.. :) I'll admit to the scheduled services as i only have a few more k's to go till that.. but the tyres... i'm still looking at close to just under 10 thou k's out of my rear tyre (i've got heaps of tyre left on the sides so more corners are the go :) )

Right well i had a play with motowhere, i quite like these roads :) Although i don't always know where to turn off :/
http://www.motowhere.com/maps/route/upper-waikato-loop
Anyways tell me what you think.
Edit - stops include:
50km - raglan - coffee/icecream/whatever
100km - ngaruawahia - gas (BP!)
205km - Thames - gas/hookers
310km - hamilton pub
That's not a bad route..
How about this to break up some of those straights and main rd pieces.. Admittadly i've not been on all of the back roads but from street view they look good and sealed

Neons? serious?
Chucked a ride up on the calendar that leyton put forward. I wouldn't suggest the whanga road on a bike around beach hop, that road is freaken dull if you have to share it with the 25km/h junkies - i am from whanga and the best time to do that road is 10am on a tuesday, 3 times of course:
1: warms tires
2: tells you where the current loose gravel and liquid possums are
3: for the ride.

I have added another option to the Route for this Sunday :
http://www.motowhere.com/maps/route/LOR-29-03-2009-Option-2-Leyton-N00b-Tours
It is fairly much the same Route it just does not cut over to Mangakino.
The reason behind this is that I drove 1/4 of the route on my way back from Matamata and it is quite apperent due to the amount of twistys, 335km with hardly any stops will be an ass buster, the alternative option is 275km. It should still last the day out :) I was very impressed with Whitehall road joining French pass, alot of 35 linked corners and fast sweeping sections. Fairly clean road too.
Will decide over breakfast in the morning :)

You have to zoom in dude :)
Firefox displays the maps better aswell, Internet Explorer tends to use far to much processor and it chugs.

Are you gonna run this route clockwise or anticlockwise? Can't come myself on Sunday (bloody training schedules) but might well run it myself in the near future....I could get the slave to work for me one fine Monday...

Ahh that's a shame dude, will comment on the route as I have not seen the South Waikato part of the route yet :)
We will be running it clockwise, So Matamata first, This is to take into consideration the due that could be still on the roads if we ran it the other way first :)

I'll have a crack at winning that competition;
I added them up, 1 in the each bathroom, 1 in the office, two in the kitchen and 3 recycling ones out the back door, a compost bin, and a metal recycling bin and normal bin in the garage.
So that makes 11.
Do I count the ones at the office as well, not clear on the rules?

I rode your route backwards this after noon, Leyton - thought I might meet up with the ride coming home...but it didn't happen. Perhaps I was too late or lost only twice or too slow very likely or too fast sure bro, sure... Mind you I did deviate once I hit Arapuni Road...usually ride it the other way round...nice road - apart from getting choked on maize spoog just East of Te Awamutu when I was briefly behind a tanker and trailer...
Nice choice of roads - Parts of that section I know well but there were roads today I had never been down before...good work.
Oh and when you come the way I did, the dive into the gully at the foot of French Pass is easy to FLICK up... I'm sure I heard a "twang"...

Looks like some good roads you picked. I was contemplating coming on the ride. Ended up taking a chick for a blat around the block instead:niceone: Nothing like a chicks thighs griping ya!
The movie is real clear too. I started to zone out with the music :)
One of these days I may be able to join you lot again. It's been a while. I don't even thing Sonic has been started since the last ride.
