I know the BTPR group are doing a ride leaving Manurewa (or somewhere in Auckland) at 10 am and ending up at the Muddy Waters about 1 pm, so if anyone is interested we could leave the Hotel 10 - 10.30 do the Highway 22 (I think) and come back in through Mercer at approx 1.00pm and stop there for a big mac or two (or Pokeno bacon) and then head back

Just a thought

Could do. I was thinking of a ride that was 3 hours max but that was just me (I have to come home and polish my garage ;)).

Suppose we would get home about 2 which isn't too bad. mmmm decisions.

Probably won't end up leaving to about 11 a.m. gives 2 hours to get to mercer via the back roads and 1/2 hour cuppa with the BTPR guys (they are the one's that came on the teddy bear run with us - good bunch) and straight back - yeah about 3 hours and a little bit. Me & Trina are in - hands up anyone else?????

If it takes you more than 2 1/2 hours to get back from Mercer theres something wrong. Don't worry we will look after you, it will be a good ride to get the confidence back and the weather forecast is all :sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny:

haha bugger. Depends where your leg is plastered. As long as it's not full leg and you can move enough for the brake/gear you'll be fine! :Punk:

That's gotta suck though. Jump on the back of a bike.

Get the Hyosung lowered. Cost about $100. If you like it, why not?

Hoysung 250 GT!! too heavy?

maybe it's more about the bike being to tall for you, or wrong riding position for you (weight too far forward)
I would suggest talking to some one you can trust, discuss what happened leading up to when you fell off, then get your bike set up for you

You can geta bike lowered?! How?! Lol you learn something every day...

Hmm maybe I'll have to come along one wed and have a good talk to people. There are some other things I need to tweak that I'm not competely comfortable fiddling with on my own that would be good to get some help with too... Yay for being a noob!

But yeah, it's not too heavy as much as being a bit too tall mixed with the weight feeling kinda high, so as soon as it starts going over it keeps going. Specially when you dont manage to get a foot on the ground...

i taught a girl to ride yesterday

no bins

i have two trials bikes.
i can teach you how to do a few things on them.
very light, no seat, wide bars, low gears....
and i can ride them properly, and the skills are transferable

but if you dont want to, sweet, your loss.

You just swap the plate that connects the bottom of your rear suspension to the bike. Then you adjust the front and you're away laughing.

We lowered Brooke's bike which is heavier than a hyosung and she handles it fine since she can put her feet down. You may even be slightly taller than Brooke. I think we dropped it about 1 inch, maybe more (2.5 cm for those metric people playing at home).

Contrary to believe it doesn't alter the handling much either. Certainly not in a stupid, drastic way. Take to Big Bikes and they should be able to give you an idea on cost.

Hoysung 250 GT!! too heavy?

The Hyosung's are a bit top heavy, and slow manovering did very much depend on a heck of alot of balance whilst the wheels were not creating that much of a gyro effect. It was quite a challenge to learn how to operate a top heavy bike whilst being a short ass! But once it starts to tip at slow speed I can imagine it would be unrecoverable for anyone shorter than me hehe. When I was learning to u-turn I would tap my foot on the ground all the time to recover until I learnt the art of counter sitting.

Great bikes, they have one for sale at Waikato Yamaha, Red one REALLY pretty, Only has 5300km on the clock too! And the tires are well scrubbed. The owner must have really looked after it well :)

Yeah it was a good ride. Good to get all the "old-schools" out again. It's probably gonna be a while til we all get out again (well, that's me anyway - snow takes priority now).

Colin, the guy on the blue SV, loved it today, and said cheers. He said to tell him when we head out again.

Don’t worry about team mormon – they confess to being mormons after all
Did you know that mormons have the highest percentage of adults in ‘serious psychological distress’, that means a bit ‘mad’ ‘wacko’.
In the States the use of antidepressants and teen suicide are the highest in Utah than any other state, and figures correlate across the world – the more mormons, the higher the rate?

You see they wank a lot (true), to some that’s a natural thing to do, especially for young pimply dorks with acne like the members of team mormon, or the mormon few. But to mormons it’s a sin! So they get all depressed about it, then because they’re focusing on it all the time – they do it more and more, it seems they can’t help themselves, then they end up in the self defeating spiral of guilt and wanking.

But their church is always there to help them; suggesting they wear cloves to bed.
I did notice one or two of the mormon few keep wearing their bike cloves out,.. a lot

Bah what are they worrying about I bet it aint cold up there yet!

The closer it gets to winter here the more my perception of "bloody freezing" changes I suspect.
At the moment the standard is: when the dew falls at 4 in the afternoon and is frozen on the ground by 11 in the evening.... :eek5:

Obviously someone calling themselves 'Scouse' from JAFFA land, got a bit upset at the post, red repped me with a whole bunch of profanities (obviously not a good mormon). I take it he is not part of the moron few, he actually thinks this is for real!
So for the record; I don't mean it, it's done in jest, I humbly apologise if I have offended any Mormons, pretend mormons (like the mormon few), Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Aliens or any form of Christians who don't like to be called catholic, half wits and wankers - in my last post.

Generally I find Hamiltonians have a good sense of humor and we all get on well - but i guess we should be careful not to offend or upset any of those overly sensitive riders from Auckland who occasionally look at this thread

The CMA group went to Raglan for lunch, then headed back up 22.

Wont be coming to the Pub this Wednesday or Next Wednesday, I have night school :) I am learning to be a safe/educated motorcyclist.

This is so I can ride the R6... *Cough* MOahaha

I have already done 400km on it over to Tauranga and (around and back) on Sunday, 07 Yamaha YZF-R6 (Stock Standard at this stage). Picked her up on Friday afternoon from Waikato Yamaha they are doing a %6 finance on all new bikes so I thought what the heck... , Traded the Hyosung, You can see her parked out the front for $5999 in all her glory! Shining away there.

Disadvantages to the YZF-R6 ... 222km until the Fuel light comes on as apposed to the 360km I get on the Hyobag, However... a shit load more comfort and enjoyment riding it.

Good on ya Leyton, you rode the Hoysung well, you shouldn't have any issues riding the R6
Look forward to riding with you soon

Leyton
4th May 2009, 16:23
Cheers dude :)

I can manage the R6 easyer then the Hyosung, however, there is alot to learn on this bike :) There is not much room for lazy habits like near straight arms when riding.. It seams to like your weight forward with a loose grip, and a shit load less stearing input. It tends to ride itself in some ways hehe I guess the Hyosung was quite primitive. I had a ride on my fathers GSX1100 1987 vintage and found it to be simular to the Hyosung for the fact you are actually unable to corner without forced counterstearing. It is quite amazing how far bikes have come.

I will be able to really start learning the bike more once I am insured for it :) I have not had it on angles anywhere near what I got the Hyosung, however, It is still just as quick around the corners! Shorter I guess, and a shit load more grunt on the way out :) I feel much safer on it strangely enough having a shit load more ponys. If I ask it nicely to pass, it does, no run up required. It is certainly a nice change.

$5999 is for the old bike :) The Hyosung.. Its sad seeing your first bike go hehehe

:scooter:

I don't know, people that ride their big bikes without the required licences should be ashamed of themselves. And without insurance I might add...tut tut tut...

Glad you went with the r6. We can't have everyone riding around on 675, ah Spaz? It'll ruin the elite club we have going on. And at least now we are starting to get 'teams' within the group (675's, R6's, Gay Kwaka's) LOL.

It sounds like they're trying to move the Hyosung at that price. You must have taken a hit. All for the love of it ah mate :)

nice work.

Hehe yeah I know, I said to myself I would never do it... But look! I am ! hehe however it is only for 1 month, and not alot of riding will take place so that was my justification :) I lost $1000 on the Hyosung but gained alot more then $1000 in priceless experience, Its just win win really :P I am not convinced I could have picked a better learner 250cc bike really, I bought it for $6500inc onroad

The R6 was selling cheap because they needed to clear it, and being new I took advantage of the finance deal Yamaha have going for new bikes at present, %6 over 3 years. So I was able to weigh up many veribles and purchase it the next day... .

I was close to getting a 02 R6 until I decided the deal was just to sweet on the '07, There is one more 07 R6 left there for $13,500 however it does not come under the %6 finance deal as it is a trade.

Generally I find Hamiltonians have a good sense of humor and we all get on well - but i guess we should be careful not to offend or upset any of those overly sensitive riders from Auckland who occasionally look at this thread

scouse is a good dude, he is as free to express his opinion as you are yours.
he knows all of us in person.

Ha - so that was you, you must of been hitting the 2@@ or close to it
The CMA group went to Raglan for lunch, then headed back up 22.
They weren't a quick group, I was in the lead group, cruising about 120-130 max - while i like to occasionally melt my tyres in a fluster of speed, I enjoyed the day pootling with a large group of riders

A bit of traffic on Sunday, takes some of the fun off it when you have to dodge them all the time

I filled up the 1000 today. 13.5 litres got me 229km of open roads at a good pace :) plus the commute to work this morning bumper to bumper in fog :(

The open stuff was not outrageously fast tho, cruising around 130 (except that time trying to catch up to Insomnia after a glove problem, but we won't discuss figures)

I would've thought so to - but I seem to do about the same, I've had to switch to the reserve at 210 once, riding hard on a road when I was continually gearing it, but I don't ever seem to get more than 230 before having to change to reserve regardless of how I ride.

Most places you look at on the web tell me I have 20 litre tank, but I have to wonder how accurate they are, http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/suzuki_bandit_1200_n_2004.php - my bikes also apparently a in line 6?

I switched to reserve about 30 ks out of Arthur's Pass - only just putted in on 262ks (I was a bit worried not to find a gas station anywhere until I saw the one and only pump at the cafe) It took 17.3 litres to fill up a 17 litre tank?
Must of been cold petrol.

I work on 250kms on the 675. It averages about just over 6L/100km (according to readout). When the low fuel light comes on, I've got about 50km left. I got about 270km out of the tank on Sunday which wasn't too bad. Coming back from Dorkland I can get over 300km. So it's pretty consistent.

Normally I wouldn't go here on a forum but Winder you must have been in trouble during most or those shots judgin by your outside arm. It looks like you have that arm fully extended meaning you're having to correct some mistake you've made. Number 1 rule of cornering fast...always leave room to correct fuck ups. Bent arm - fast corner, straight arm - fucked up and trying to stop yourself from kissing dirt.

You must have scared yourself. But, if that's how you ride...mate, I would change if you want to race. Experienced riders would come around the outside of you forcing you to early apex every time. You've got nothing left to hold them off and they'll know it.

Keep practising mate, you'll get there in the end.

You must have misunderstood me. I didn't mention problems about your apex, I mentioned problems with your outside arm. I said I thought it looked straight which is poor form and leaves no room for corrections of error.

Your coaches riding and lap record has nothing to do with the photo's unless the photos are of him (I may have missed something though).

I was merely offering an opinion to your technique which is why I assumed you put the photo's up. If you want to take it personal and get defensive, that's your loss, I was merely trying to improve your short falls.

If you've got room in that arm for movement - good - and obviously the photo's have missed it.

I would not speak for days if I binned my bike... months even, Or maybe even years as I am un-insured whilst riding it on the road as that is outside of my license conditions :) <Watch this space>

The only hairy moment I had was doing a U-Turn in a tight street, I was at hard lock and fond myself on a too wider arc, not going to make it, if I had of braked without my feet down to stabilize me I could have tipped over, however.. I can hardly touch the ground as it is, so that is always hairy, The Hyosung was not too bad but the R6 is a bit more difficult for me being a taller bike

Cameron's got a pocket bike here, with how tall he is it is funny as hell seeing him on it! It's a crazy as feeling when you are on it and you take it out on the road (as you know it's all gravel round our place so that don't go all that good on them) and it screams it's head off down the road with a puff of smoke behind it (that's if you haven't got the petrol/oil mix quite right) :)

I suspect the mormen boys would love it down here, when it rains here the roads get as greasy as hell and when its cold it takes AGES for your tyres to warm up so it makes the back end a little.. err.. loose  Kind of like drifting on a bike except its not much fun. Makes it well easy to bin.

Three of us went for a ride = Matangi, Tauwhare, Walton, Old Te Aroha Road to Kaimais, Tauranga, Whangamata, Kopu, Pearoa back to Hamilton

Started off dry in the Waikato, real warm over BOP and Whangamata, sun and not too much traffic. But man did it pour down on the way back from Pearoa.

But a good day out all the same
