OutForADuck

Yeah I think I will be out... as long as the weather holds as predicted. White boots will be in tow, if I don't get to them with black polish before than. Only out for a morning ride though as heaps to get done and only this weekend to do, tied up next weekend with National marshalling and the one after that is easter so will be painting and then the one after I am hoping to make a weekend of it in Taupo, track day some MTB'ing maybe and the one after that is ART Day again :Punk:.

Looking to get some miles out of my new rubber before winter arrives :bye:

Anyway yes I'll be there. Come bn boys and girls.. who else will be out to play whilst the sun lasts.

One of the cylinders is not getting a spark - it's not the coils as i swapped those, so something is amiss between coils and the ECU.

Borris you are much more confident through the corners and it will start to come together for you pretty quickly now I would think.

Off to do chores now... but with a smile on my dial.. thanks guys.

Its good to see the training i have had start to pay off.
It's even better now that i have been told/showen how to ride properly.
I think that CSS should be complusery for all new riders.

I couldn't agree more. I did the California Superbike School a couple of weeks ago. They do a brilliant job, the structure of the training and the practice drills is fantastic. While I am already riding a little bit better, more importantly everytime I do something wrong I am more conscious of exactly what I did wrong and what I need to improve on.

Everyone should do some of this performance training. The skills and confidence gained give you so many more options if things go wrong.

Yep, had my first "too fast (for me) into a corner" and just rolled the throttle a bit more and it wasn't till i was down the road and into the next that i had relized what i had just done.

I know i am still new but your lines into right hand corners seemed a bit tight (close to the center line), try staying out wider a bit longer.

Thanks man - yeah I went onto the line a couple of times...
I was focussing on trying to get my body opposition the right way (like I had seen doing some CSS research on Youtube - the hip flick, the knee switch, the kiss the mirror, the opening my inside hip to the corner etc). Geez my mind was all over the place - it became like golf with all the rules and stuff to think about (but much more fun and with a pulse).

I was not allowing myself to ride faster (I still am very cautious on roads - I ride like a dog is going to jump out at any second- cause it could) because of the technique, but I did feel a lot more confident at the speeds that I normally do.
I do think the stuff I was trying was allowing this.

I flet like I could ride a lot faster, and if I did, I could get my knee down easy. I just am not prepared to do it at high speed on the road - I should just go do it in the car park I guess.

One day I hop eto actually go the CSS and not just try and steal ideas from their website of course...

Until you get the cornering lines right forget about everything else you mentioned. It's like building a house. You have to get the foundations right before you start building on top.

like pdath said don.'t worry about trying to move around on your bike.

I tryed it down at Manfield raceway but as i had no clue what i was doing it made my corners worse, to much to think of.

after you went back i just stuck behind duck, i never moved around on the bike and never went much faster than we had previously in the ride.
I too had thought that to go faster around a corner you had to get the knee down, but as it has been shown and been taught this is far from the case.

You should come on more of these rides and try and get some track time (you don't need to go fast to learn) as in the year that MrsB and myself have been riding the knowledge that we have learned from riding behind and asking good riders (not just ones whom go fast) has been invaluable. this is one of the reasons I sit at the back, I follow my own speed and get my lines right getting faster will come later.
So thanks to all that I have pested for information, it is much appreciated.

So thanks to all that I have pested for information, it is much appreciated.

The only thing is that when riding on the road, I pretty much stick to the middle of the lane, occasionally moving to the inside of a corner (and occasionally over it when distarcted). But as far as learning cornering lines, I am bit hesitanton the road. I ride the lines (and speed) that I feel will give me most options to move from - because you might have a nice racing line at speed, but that gives you very few options to change your line (eg when all of a sudden there is a big pothole where you are supposed to be riding?).

I would like to go to the track where I could maybe feel that I would not be restricted by worry that a dog or a tractor is around the next bend, where you know what the next corner is, and that there are no potholes - or trees at the side of the road if you screw up. I think I would be more prepared to try racing lines then...

I appreciate that for the road, the best technique is to wait as late as you can into corners to see whats around them. I do this most days commuting to work. Although as I say, my bogey side is to the right.

R.Sole, you seriously should consider doing some of the ART Days... a Track day with training and instructors. Its a much better environment to move you forward than the road or a normal track day where everyone is just out to go as fast as they can.

Take a look at ART Days (http://www.amcc.co.nz/advanced-art) and also search on here for "Art Days" you'll find lots of independent feedback about the days.

I'll declare I am biased because I am involved and beleive we are doing a good job... search the forums and pester others.

You'll have a ball R Sole. and get some good assistance.

I notice in the other thread you were concerned about moving around or what group. Graham recommended group two because of the speeds you will get down the straights and in group one we get smaller bikes (even had a couple of fast scooters last time). But having said that we keep an eye on everyone and often move people up or down so that they get the most out of their day and the instruction, which varies according to group level.

Look forward to seeing you out there.. hopefully we will see you on the weekend and ATNR rides as well.

Anywho, a bar end weight is well below the level of an Italian fault. They prefer to go wrong with much impact, style, and panache.

Unfortunately I can. My wife and I left Parnell heading for Mairangi Bay just as it started. There was so much water our brakes got water logged and went spongy. Also proved I definately need some better wet weather gear.

The pace varies depending on who shows up and what mood everyone is in. But usually we maintain a good road pace, the guys at the front don't tend to slow down for the corners at all and the guys at the back do. We all concertina back together again at the next corner or stop point.

I for one don't mind slower riders along as long as they can maintain a reasonable road pace so the day doesn't take until next week. It can be a good place to get some tips and advice and improve your riding, plus they are all a good bunch to get along with, except for that guy on the streetfighter :innocent:

Pretty much as per Boris & Quacker said.

Everyone rides at their own pace (most important to not go quicker than u feel comfortable doing!). The quicker ones wait for the more conservative ones at next intersection or rally point. The front guys aren't mad and don't treat it like a SH16 GP, and the only real difference is that they don't slow down for corners as much, and get on it earlier/harder coming out of the corners. I suspect that we all probably do similar (and sensible) normal open road speeds on the straights. So as long as your 250 (and you) can comfortably cruise at normal open road speeds, you'll be fine.

They are good, fun, days. Good company (cept that guy on the streetfighter that we don't talk about). You'll learn lots. Just remember that we all had to start somewhere, and don't try to over extend yourself to try and keep up. That's no fun for you, and that's when accidents happen. You'll also find that it'll take you a few rides before u start to get to know the roads, which makes a big difference as well.

yachtie10
25th May 2010, 23:51
Wow is this KB?
everyone saying sensible things and no smack talk (except for you know who)

as has been said all are welcome as long as you can ride at open road speeds and don't go faster than your comfortable.
We will wait for you.

actually the guy on the streetfighter (Outforaduck) can be helpful and does like to help improve your riding.

The trend has been to ride north and have lunch in waipu , mangawhai or any other place anyone suggests.

Cool, cheers guys. My riding so far has just been commuting and I'd like that to change. I think I'm going to be quite slow on the tighter corners, I'm comfortable at the straighter bits, head down SH17 every day to get to town but that's almost a straight line.

I need to build my confidence on the tighter corners and that's only gonna happen by getting out and doing it. I might go get some practise time on my own first so that I'm not so slow that it gets to be a bit of a drag waiting for me. I don't mind being last to get to a meeting point but I don't want you to have to book in to a hotel while you wait either, cause I'm not gonna go any faster than I'm happy with.

It would be a shame to have these roads just outside my front door and not make use of them, so yeah, I'll come along but not just yet me thinks. I reckon I could hold you up too much at the moment.

Broke my heart - does that count? Loved my car and now I have killed it!
I have whiplash and a very sore back - my brain isn't working so good either - not a good idea to ride the bike this weekend........

Congrats! And yes, you need to get out as much as possible, as after he arrives, you have NO freedom. And missus is very grouchy from lack of sleep, so brownie points are scarce...

Wow that would make for some interesting handling, especially, and some of the guys of bigger bikes wouldn't get this, without radial weave holding the tire shape together (Most high performance bike tires now are radial are will work pretty damn well down at low pressures, unlike those on your little VTR).

You'll be TWICE as fast next time out :shit: Or more importantly twice as confident.

I have found an awesome road that is very technical, and great to ride, with potentially very few cops on it, just north of Auckland. anybody wanting to find out about it please PM me. It may be well worth changing the normal Weekend rides to go along this regularly.

Not me... in true BEAST form my bike shooked me off in a highside and threw me down the road in disgust!!!! I counted something like 12 tumbles before the world stopped going round. I don't think it appreciated me taking it out in the rain all day!!!

I think my bike will be off the road a little longer than Ntox, no insurance and need to pick up stuff from ebay so facing delivery delays galore!!! But it will be back, with me squeezed into new leathers!!

Its just like the T-shirt says.. shit happens!!!

Hey Ntox... I actually hit some diesel in the car picking up the bike yesterday... slid, complete with trailer... what the hell are you supposed to do when your trailer slides????? (I was still wondering when it all came back in a straight line).
