Nice night for a ride, sounded good following a couple of v twins through the tunnel, I do like the road from lyttleton around to gov bay. Bugs everywhere on the way home, time to clean the headlight and visor again.
Neels thanks for the company home, hope you enjoyed the Ducati:scooter:
I tried not to leave you behind on the wee 250, although I must admit thinking that you'll know what it's like trying to keep up with you  Hmmmm, I think I likes the duc, might have to stick mrs on the back some time and see what she thinks, not that I'm buying at the moment.
PS: to the bike behind me when around the bays, excuse my behaivior chasing HOT, we ride and race togeather so she knows I was being a silly bastard. Think it was me and the shiny new TDM behind you, looked pretty good from where I was sitting
We were in a group of 4, I overtook Scotty (Red CBRRR (Pirate edition)) and then someone else I couldn't make out... got home and found I had a txt from Scotty saying he run a flat and lost us!
Apparently some 'good bastard' stopped and helped him out.
A bunch stopped, although most of us weren't much help until better equipped people turned up that actually had puncture repair kits :o Thanks guys for the impromptu tyre repair lesson.

Nice gentle ride last night, scrubbing in the new Anakee, and catching up with another TDM'er. They aren't common...
There were a fair few "good bastards" who stopped and helped out, including a passing Birdlings Flat resident with his torch (which was much bettererer than my LED headlight). It was the first time I had used my tubeless tyre repair kit, and after consulting with Maxf, it worked well enough to get the man home.
And now, to clean the bugs off...
Good to hear that the fellow got his tyre sorted. Sorry for shooting away (curfew for this learner rider) Got home just after 10pm
Thank you once again to my Wingmen! You know who you are :woohoo: Hope you guys didn't mind being so slow??
Wind + Dark + Bugs + KP = Not very comfortable  Got home in one piece though!!

Enjoyed the first WNR on my new machine - new back tire now well scrubbed...dodgy front tire needs replacing me thinks. liked the sparks flying from the triumph going into duvo - nice n low! very good lesson on tire repair on the side of the road from leadon and max - note to self - get a torch, repair kit, and ride with leadon and max behind me

Well what a great night out. Who else noticed that all the cars moved across and gave us plenty of room. Even the camper vans kept out of the way. I hope everyone gave them a nice friendly wave...
It was great to see everyone out having fun but keeping safe and riding in a group that suits their riding style. The fast guys went fast, the motards went mono, the cruisers cruised, and everyone i spoke to really enjoyed themselves. I really enjoy riding with such a varied group of bikes and riders.
Also a huge thanks to everyone that has made my daughter Ashlea feel part of the group. She really looks forward to the rides and always goes to school bragging about them. I realise that there is a bit of opposition to people bringing their kids along but its great for us. I would like to orginise a "family style" ride one sunday... so am going to throw some ideas out there for discussion. Actually i will start a new thread about it.

To everyone who stopped to help out with the flat (including the Birdlings Flat man in the van), Mucho gracias!!!! Got home safe, just a little jelly legged from cruising most of the way back at 60km/h. And the tire is still inflated this now... don't think I'll see you on the road today though. The next WNR beer is on me!

No problems with the help - but for the size of a pack of ciggies the puncture kit is worth it (and a cheapo $10 LED torch from M10 is a bit of a no-brainer too for night rides!).
Did do the 80-90 toddle back in, the bugs were a PITA - esp with a headlight the size of mine! - and the wind was really strange, warm then really feeling as if it's about to rain? Weird.
Also smiling - Road Whale has just ticked over 190000, still ticking along (but does really need an oil change, see what's on this weekend & steal the stuff earmarked for the SO's car **again**).
May be there for Greta, see what happens- Phil, Gary - still on for some Sat rides?

Wicked ride!! I counted about 50 bikes at the carpark, but a few didn't come along. God I hate those bugs. Rode to work this morning and the stench is unbareable.

As long as they are kitted up , haven't really heard of any opposition? Kids ride was talked about a while back at one of the rallies, woodstock? maybe a barbie or something at the end of it, as Alot are still only on trikes aye Dangerous:shifty:
i'm a tad worried as our 2 1/2 yr old can climb up on my bike, put the key in , and start the bike( when I'm there of course) and demand a ride on the fuel tank up and down the drive). :shit:

You let my boy ride the hoonish thumper! & you'd never even met or ridden with him before!how awesome is that?
Gathered being your son he'd know his way round a bike :) He handled it like a dream - nice and smooth, refreshing to meet a young guy with good manners, he had a good "grin on" when he jumped off at Duvauchelle's.
Melviee (brit green 900 trumpie) and I came back through governors bay and I ran out of gas at the waltham bridge lights, lent bike over and made it home - we should have turned off at gebbies and came out at the sign of the kiwi.
Might have to shell out for one of those whale tanks - or stock up on coke bottles :)

Twas a great ride over the hill. Enjoyd it heaps. about to leave all kitted, and the bloody key would not turn the ignition on... somthing jammed somehow... had to leave the bike in a back shed... poor thing... I mourned for her right up until I saw her single eye gleeming through my rear vision mirror on trailer behind me car last night.
What a great night for a ride last night it would have been, no traffic at all, almost, wet conditions and heaps of understeer along with the stink of brakes each sde of the hill... mmmmm yum.
One bonus from it all, and after which lead me to showering. I sure got me "leg over", (made well aware of my choice of words... ooops)... but getting back to town, thunder let me ride is new B-King back to town...(I almost felt a little slutty) cheers to SuziQ Thunder and Transalper... times like these ya feel totally stink, but with assistance from fellow bikers... cheers. Humbling.
A few pics got by me.
And hopefully the weekend I shall find solution to me tiny drama.

Would one of those 1ltr camping fuel bottles (for petrol stoves) you get at Kathmandu help (or is 1ltr literally a drop in the bucket?)... I know others say use Coke bottles etc but that really sounds quite dodgy from a few points-of-view, unless you like that kind of excitement!! :shit::shutup::innocent:
PS - must admit some admiration for the MG rear end on yours - they got rid of the second universal joint in their design which is the Achilles heel of the BMW paralever....

Oh I am not one bit worried about gas... it is more the putting the key in and turning the F&^%er, as happened over at D.
P.S, I appreciate your appreciation of the Griso rear end. My eyes scan the area most often, I spend extra time there cleaning all the nooks and crannies.

Hi all, after a very exciting ride to duva on my new bike i have come to the conclusion that 125hp is just too much for me. After some grovelling and whining to the happy chappies at Avon City Suzuki, I have managed to convince them to let me have my old GSXR back, so all going well i should be back in action just in time for the ride to greta valley. looking forward to riding with all you awesome fullas and fullettas soon. :D

:D - Only ever seen a couple of XR650R's come up for sale in Christchurch on tardme over the course of a year - young fella might have to hook one out from Auckland like a mate and I did - usually real tidy with less places to ride up there. Yeah I did the same with mine, road trip to the north island to look at 3 , then week later a mint one for sale in greymouth that had never been off road, deal was done on the spot , loaded into old work van and home. Problem is the good ones are well sort after and don't last long on the market. Same when I sold it , got 1k more and gone 1st day advertised.

heated grips are awesome, but in saying that ya still need good gloves, otherwise the backs or ya hands are gonna get chilled.

Yes, thank god for putting on the thermals before going - and for heated handlebars; hot pie from GV was soon history, I reckon. On the other hand, as the Pet Shop Boys put it, "Driving through the night is so exciting!" and at least there weren't any swarms tonight... apologies for those I ended up following too, I think the headlight was a tad "assertive" (read high) so I've dropped it a bit now.

"Road trip" you were a keen man - Good Stuff !

Hey all - slight follow-up from last night, bit of a replay of the puncture saga of last week...
Must have got it last night, but a carpet tack makes for a nice slow puncture - no problems last night, but 10psi this morning for work. So, out with the Innovations kit - and for those of you still looking to buy one:
- don't buy the one with the small cannisters. All 3 of my smalls barely got to 24PSI in the rear tyre, and that with some residual pressure already in there. The big ones FollowMe had (abt 5 inches long by 2 diameter) are probably the minimum for reasonable non-scooter bikes...
- check your set has some reasonable amount of glue ... mine was pitiful (even if it hadn't all dried up too - luckily the hole was tiny and the "rubber string" has really bedded in well, and even then if the whole string went I'd still only have a small original hole/slow rate of deflation)
- still think the old BMW OEM puncture kit had it right on the money with including a little fold-out razor blade for the plug and a piece of chalk to mark the hole - the one tonight was hard to see in daylight, let alone if it was darker/wet.
Anyway, will checkout the replacements tomorrow.
Probably can't make anything this weekend either - doing a big system migration at work, will be babysitting software off-&-on all weekend...

Well... wasn't that interesting!
Came round a corner where there was little protection from the wind and big gust of wind/hail pushed me over and off down a bank. Landed face down on a rock over the tank!
Thanks so much to the good buggers that stopped to help me out of that 'off-road adventure'.
Bike is OK, very wobbly turning right, think wheel is warped. (which made it very slow riding on the way back)
RHS faring is scratched to buggery.

FUCKING EPIC!!!
zooming up evans from sumner side the wind picked right up, and I could see the clouds flickering with the most powerful electrostatic force in nature - raw electricity.
I got to the car park and looked down at the monster rolling down the harbour, road was still dry so I start chopping down evans pass, that's when the wind hit.
it was what I'd imagine a leaf feels like, phowar was it powerful, pushed the bike all over the road like a flag in the wind.
I jump on the brakes and slow the bike down, trying to point it into the wind so to reduce the sail effect.
Ashmore eventually comes down when I stopped wondering where they'd got to, he carries on and we creep into lyttelton, we're soaked before we get there.
Stopping in lyttelton to regroup/watch the lightning/laugh maniacly at the lightning the others come down also, I txt brent to let him know I'm heading home, then I decided to go to the pub, then the shit weather on the chch side of the tunnel made me decide to go home again.
I showered and warmed up.

Yep, mucho gusto even just at Evans - great fun watching the lightning hit the hill (over the brow), start a fire (lots of black smoke for abt 10 secs) then the rain/hail came and that was the end of that!
definitely a real microclimate out there - back in town, just a bit of dampness (apart from on me, I was right soaked) and at home just some laughs when the SO said she'd avoided going for a walk with the neighbour as they thought it looked a bit black!!
Hope everyone else got thru OK (apart from Sammy's unluck hangliding - the Bond movies are supposed to be on Saturday nights, not tonight).

Well... wasn't that interesting!
Came round a corner where there was little protection from the wind and big gust of wind/hail pushed me over and off down a bank.
Thanks so much to the good buggers that stopped to help me out of that 'off-road adventure'.
Bike is OK, very wobbly turning right, think wheel is warped. (which made it very slow riding on the way back)
RHS faring is scratched to buggery.
As for me, bloody sore back, grazes on my legs but all and all I'm bloody lucky.
Thanks again guys!
Where you came to grief, the wind gusts were wicked!
we saw you & I couldnt stop ! had to go to the other side of the road in the lieu of a hill...then when you were under way again i had to get neels to help me struggle to get the Duc upright off the stand!!:shit:
Hope your OK Sam....think you will be sore and stiff for the next 48hrs or so,hope the bike isnt too bad ,take care...
FUCKING EPIC!!!
.........
Lol!remember that 1st summer of WNRs when there was a awesome storm & a massive hail storm just as we rode into Diamond harbour?
Im sure I remember you and Spuds were loving it but the sprotsbike guys limped home a zero ks an hour!!

The ACC levy's on bike's goes into effect on the _1st of next month_. You are entitled to hold up to 18 months Rego at any time. The post shop will give you the Rego top up form you need
All you need to do is calculate 18 month from the date in fill it in... So ensure you have the full 18 months Rego at the current low price before the insane prices start.
This of course presumes you **do** want to keep up the rego, and I don't know what the story is if you put it on hold, either.

PS: how was that wee storm to ride through, hehe... wernt on the summit road I hope?
Um, yup we was.
Hail up dyers pass and around the summit road to about rapaki, hell windy so had to slow down to bugger all for the exposed bits of the road, particularly the worst one where we found sammy hiding in the shrubbery. Wasn't game to stop in the wind so parked a bit further up the road behind the bank so my bike didn't join his over the side, a few hands had the bike back on the road. Carried on along the summit watching the lightning show, down to evans and then Lyttleton just in case there were people waiting, nobody there so back through the tunnel to the hop for a drink with the other soggy people.
All good fun, what's on for next week :Punk:

Don't panic!!!
According to www.acc.co.nz "New levies will take effect from 1 April 2010, except for motor vehicle levies which take effect from1 July 2010."
And the increase in the ACC part of the rego isn't as bad as it could have been:
For bikes 600cc and over, it is currently $252 year; ACC planned to hike that to $745, but the Government has backtracked to $426, an increase of $174 a year.
For motorbikes 600cc and under you currently pay $252 a year; ACC had planned for that to rise to $511, but the Government has scaled that back to $327 - an increase of $75 a year.
Ride a moped 50cc and under, and you currently pay $58 a year; the plan was for that to jump to $257, but it will now be $129, an increase of $71.

You coud break an old indicator lens and glue a piece of it in behind your one. Waltham panel and paint were ultra cheap when needed job done on my van (few years ago now) but could be worth a try.
Those scratches deep ? If light that matching colour Turtle wax that is designed for scratches works well, had to use it when scratched up "the outlaws" terrano down at the waimak I was test driving - worked so well I bought the terrano. :D

Being the rough bugger I am I'd probably just fill the hole with some RTV until I got around to sorting it properly (note to self, must replace indicator lens that's held on with electrical tape) :shifty:
As brp said you will probably find that a lot of the scratches will polish out, but unfortunately not all of them.
At least you didn't manage to find any really big rocks with the bike, only with your head.

She backed the pace off when she had a moment on one of the cattlestops, very lucky it was not a highside.
I sat the worst of it out in the shelter on the top with a couple of others. My leathers are now drying before I need them for racing on Sunday! teeshirt, dungers and leathers+hail and wind=very cold and uncomfortable.

"Nice action"
Mine came shod with Scorpions knobblies (wonder if standad kit) thought they were great when hooned over to port levie :D
Now to make it go oink oink - nice long strokes till the kick start goes hard
- pull in decomp lever and gently run the kickstarter down 1/4 to 1/2 a stroke - while still having the decomp lever held in come back up 1/4 to a half and release the decomp lever - the pig is ready to be started (as a guide when the kickstart lever comes up it should be (around) in line with the bottom of the large circle cut out of the frame to house the large nut holding the motor in) you will know when its right cause it will feel so easy - no need to have the force of kicking a bigbore 2 stroke - more just pushing a lever down
Always have no throttle what so ever - idle is meant to be 1400 RPM (high eh and obvious hard to gauge with no rev counter) - so if you find it hard to start tweak the idle up (left side of bike)
Enjoy U2 :)

Hey guys a bit off topic but i need recommendations on a new bike shop to go to Norjo's have pissed me off big time fucking me round and just shit ass service......:ar15: Well to some it up im not happy Jan. I hear Just Motorbikes in Brighton is good?? Oh and BTW i have a Japper so no Euro places they just make me feel dirty when i go in :yeah:
Only time I've heard of Norjos' they frightened the old owner of my GPX750 so much (head job at $1200++) that he ditched the bike for about 2000 under value - and it turned out the valves were way overtight on the adjustments, that's all... As far as spannering goes, I've got a Euro and the last time I talked to the official dealer (about a tune-up) they said they didn't have the proper tool and to do it by ear, so I don't feel dirty, I just feel dropped!!
So, I'm with Flip - DIY. I know it's not for everyone, and for some bikes it's probably just not possible (either diabolical design, or expensive custom tools, or just no documentation, etc etc) but you can then pick and choose - get it all done yourself, get out a subassembly and then get assistance on that, or do some diagnosis and get it all done for you, but hopefully with no BS...

Im sure I remember you and Spuds were loving it but the sprotsbike guys limped home a zero ks an hour!!

That was my first wed nite ever! Alex was behind me on the Katana, Tris lead the way I think Devient and Dave were there too! Was an awesome experience!!!
Hope to make it on wed... will see how I feel. SV still got issues so would be on the ZX6R....not overly comfortable riding that to duva.......might feel up to it though

Hehe I remember catching up the a Busa that night going around the corners into Diamond Harbour. I was so frustrated behind it. 2 feet on the ground like out riggers and soooooo sloooooooow!!!!
I love riding in the wet and wacky weather so long as I have the right gear. Sucks when your caught in a down pour and dont have wet weather gear.

I was on the ride that night, riding to the conditions but dont remember having both feet on the ground - but i do remember a few knobs following to close for the conditions. That is frustrating when an idiot is following behind too close and could slide out on a corner and take you out as well. You must be a real hero going fast. And you should have the right gear or dont go riding.

Wasnt your busa I was following. I dont think we were to close either (dont get me wrong, I did creep up on the rear of the riders bike in front of me after going though a corner faster then they). Hell it was a good night that night anyway. No one got hurt and I had fun.

On another note, I'm trying to save up to get a Gopro HD setup but it's taking too long so I've decided to sell my existing cameras.
For those that saw I'm selling the two Sanyo Xactis, the C1 and C5. They need to go as a pair as they share a charger! That means you can record with a 2 cam setup, fun to play around with!
Lots of extras:
You'll get 2 cameras (incl box, CDs, manuals, charger, cables, Docking station for the C1, USB cables and adaptors so you can also plug the cameras into USB or TV without the dock, remote), about 4-5 batteries, 2 SD cards, a carry case, a tripod/clamp, plus some stuff I've probably forgotten about!
These usually still go for about $150 ea but I'd be happy with $250 for the lot.
PM me if you're keen. Happy to go over it all with you, have had lots of fun mounting these in many places on the bikes and helmet.
Go to www.youtube.com/peeteey and look at some of my older vids for reviews and samples.
Here's a few:

I thought the MR27 form to extend your rego was only for 15months max?
Saving my pennies for June so I can get some of that rego.
Yep, "only" 15 months - just did this today. New expiry is 29th June 2011, $275 incl GST (so it even included credit for the tag-end remaining couple of months I still had to run before the old renewal date)... Just get an MR27 and check out the field-by-field help on the back... I know there is some debate on the "in-effect" date but I've thought WTH and if it is 1 June then I might top-up again before then too, now I know I can (even with a non-expired/expiring rego). Also didn't want any chance of NZTA closing the loophole either!! - I bet there will be some pressure to do so when they look at the M/c renewal stats...!
Definitely happy not to be giving Naughty Nicks' cronies the extra $$$ (get the old $252pa rate this way, not the $327/$426 - $426 in my case)

$275 from my receipt and the credit I got for the time I had to run on my existing rego?... and still guessing getting charged at the $321pa rate is better than the $426pa one?
And what I ride was getting troll-like comments elsewhere, so I thought WTF and don't bother anymore? Does my not having a banner bother you? If so, for gods' sake, why?

As a "Summit Road Nutter" I would love to.
However there are a number of corners which would be prone to sunstrike late in the day. Some of these corners have a runoff area which includes several hundred feet of freefall. Also the downhill side is steeper than Dyers and involves a lot more corners, a number with no runoff areas.
I think times would be similar either way except that newer riders could be more comfortable going Governors Bay.
If some of our riders wish to go via the summit road then go for it. Please be careful up there.
See you all tonight at BK.

I think Duv is the plan, the discussion is in regard to which way to get there to allow the photographers to do their thing after last weeks abortive effort.
I may be persuaded to go via the summit road from the kiwi, sunstrike shouldn't be as much of a problem from the kiwi to gebbies as it is from evans to dyers, except maybe around the top of kennedy's bush road.
Anyway, weather looks good so expect I will be along for the last outing of the season.

Hope you guys all have fun tonight - just got home and noticed the gearbox is leaking **really** well - looks like shaft output seal has gone (think front sprocket seal for you chainies, but buried way in deep) so the timing is impeccable (end of WNR, just paid up rego). Probably off the road for a while - at least the seal, if not a precautionary gearbox pull/strip... It has done 190k now, shouldn't complain, only then that leads into whether a I do a new clutch while I'm in there... whether I strip the engine rear covers & reseal... fun all over.
At least it didn't dump a litre of EP90 gear oil over the rear tyre. Moral of the story - pay attention when something seems strange!
Also - thanks for the entertainment & company all these Wednesdays - it's been fun... and take care, you don't want to be under obligation to Dr Smith, remember!

Great fun! I left home late so had to choose between getting to the BK carpark on time or getting fuel, but since I had more than 100kms left including reserve I thought I'd be ok ( I didn't know we were going allmost all the way to Akaroa!).
I hit the reserve tank on the way back at the cnr of Gebbies Pass Rd and Christchuch Akaroa Rd (the Motukarara turn off), then ran out of gas just before the roundabout after the Lyttelton tunnel rd. :P
I had to push the bike more than 2km to get to the mobil on Ferry Rd lol
Some great corners on that road though, haven't been that way in a long time :-)
