Yes these rides are mainly intended as a social event, but yes they we're always intended to be "newbie friendly". Taking it too far like Kaikoura or turning the ride into a race was never the intention. It's called the Weds Night Cruises for a reason. Not everyone wants the same thing in a ride however. In Wellington we had the "Cruisy Weds Night Ride" and the "Real Thurs Night Ride". Maybe it's time we had a split. It doesn't mean people can't go to both, just expect a different pace/intensity.

What another split, the horror, the humilation, the the, ahh wtf I am with you on this one.
We had a Thursday night called the nana rides, (which they wernt always), our good friend Shrek moved and these have not been held in a while perhaps someone could revive the idea. If you guys want to arrange a ride to Kaikoura or anywhere else perhaps and this is just an idea here start a thread and post a link in this thread, lets keep this one for what is was intended, about the rides it states in the first post. Oh and the obvious humor that gets added in here.

Completely random but i remember driving along the motorway in Nelson (what there is of it) and i was driving a fair click and i got overtaken by a dude on a Vespa who hummed past me! i was very surprised at how fast he had the little thing wound up. I don't know what model it was but it was painted in Italian racing colours and was screaming like a high revving 2 stroke, i even thought "i got to get me one of those!"

I had one wicked ride with Peeteey and Cruza, but then they sort of died off with my RGV's engine.
Once it's run in again I'll be more than happy to start them up again, not that it couldn't be done by other people.

Hope you guys have a great and safe ride!!
We all did trust me.
Lite traffic not many trucks there and we only had to over take a few on the way home.
All most had the roads to our self's.
Weather was good, the company was good and food at the stop was top's.
So good in fact we plan to do it again real soon.
As we rode more than we stopped, I only could take a few pic's.

Ahhh what a fun trip, nice pace kept by all and some good practice at night riding for a couple of people that have not done much of it before. Actually it was a good refresher for all of us i think. Was a fun sight looking back in the mirrors to see a string of headlights blasting along through the sweeping foothills of the kaikora ranges... even the few truck drivers we met moved over and gave us the "all clear" whenever we came up to them.
Glad everyone on the WNR had fun as well.

also - cheeky comments, semi in-jest; applies specifically to the long-run crew but also to the regulars - make sure you've got the basics ... spare lights (esp headlight), fuses, tyre repair kit (Petra!), torch so you can use them, hazard triangle or flashers, first aid kit if you feel particularly responsible...
You should of said clutch cable as well!!!!!:brick:

Well I also enjoyed last nights little run to Diamond Harbour.
Crowe also enjoyed the run, she made comments about going on more WNR's. You wouldent know but she has been to 14 Brass Monkeys. Got told off a little bit for scraping the pegs going through goveners bay. About the only down was we were very dissapointed in the meals, won't be ordering there anymore, will just get takeaways. The beer was great!
Needed a WOF today, the bike is almost 5 years old and if I get it now I get a year, Monday I only get 1/2 a year. I brought it a nice set of custom HD mirrors as a birthday present. Well its raining now and I have to ride home in the english sunshine, it was such a nice day this morning.

welll, i think Fiona coped really well on her first WNR witht he wee Scorpio - she did find it very stressful and was really worried about holding people up but she was very happy when we got home. Thanks to all who rode with us and offered support! much appreciated! Out to Diamond Harbour would be her longest ride yet and involved the most open road riding she's done so far.

Hey all, have not had too many chances to join in lately, shifting house, study and all the other time constraining things that happen at this time of year, so it was great to get out last night (even though as pillion) for a WNR with a difference... the trip to Kaikoura that some of us took was fantastic for a change to the local rides, and with the timing and organisation by the guys, it was really well worth it.
Look forward to making it along to some 'regular' WNRs' now that the New Year is settling in around us here!
Cheers, and Happy New Year!

It is good to have some basic tools, I was cursing not putting the tools back in the scooter's toolbox when it stopped on the way home from work last night. :shit: 5 minutes to clean the crap out of the carby once I got home and going again. Just as well I left it at home on wednesday night.

Thanks
McWild
15th January 2010, 16:33
The bikes that come along are generally in the 125cc and above range, I think if you are on pretty much any 50cc except a RG50, NSR50, or RS50 you will struggle to keep up and it would be unlikely that the group would wait too long for you.
You would definitely be welcome at the carpark and at the pub, and even within the riding group if you push those little 50s really really hard but more than likely it would for you just be a solo ride with company at either end.

Well although I am pretty amazing, I didn't wanna take the bike too far hence stayed at the back. Took a right turn at the Ferry rd/Tunnel rd roundabout and headed to Governor's bay.
Stopped at the pub there and had a coke while I waited for and eventually watched the WNR roll through.
I think I saw a couple of confused looks at the Pepsi parked up there too, was good for a laugh!
Not many better ways to spend an evening in summer, bar actually riding.
And wow you guys make a lot of noise!

Although a sentence along the lines of "people who know each other through the kiwibiker internet forum" is somewhat more cumbersome than calling it a club and moving on.

I hope we do not need to go any further into the debate of who rides with who and when, its your own choice as to who you ride with and your responsibility as to how you ride, it is also your responsibility to ensure your bike is in working full working order, and you are riding within your ability.
One can hope lessons were learnt from past events.

Wasn't a too bad of a read, Have to agree it was a pity there was no group shot of the kb girls. Surpose with any editor, they get the final say in the matter. Any way another plug for kb, hopefully heaps of new visitors to the site and few new faces? . Well all I can say is, if he rides like it did with us on the Wednesday night ride.
And keep's on riding like that, then he is more than welcome to ride with me again.
And I would even invite him, if I could remember his on line name.
So Geordie, PM me please.
gordies overtake that led to an accident wasn't the only dumb decision he'd made that day.
he also decided to show up on an unwarrentable, unregisterable 400 on his learners license, only after crashing his busa weeks before.
and then there's the over take.
I mean, there's foregiveness for riding like a twat (we forgive D every week) but then there's consistantly making bad decisions, which in my opinion needs greater consideration when deciding whether this is a person I'd want to ride with.
I'd also like to point out that my information is second hand, I wasn't on the scene a year ago, but my second hand information comes from many many reliable sources.

Here's a PDF of the article. It's not very nice, but all the text is there.
Due to the odd format of the paper I wasn't able to scan the full page width, therefore it has been done column by column. The PDF was still rather big - about 4 Mb - so I had to compress it to get under the limit. So there was a degradation of image quality there as well.
Anyway, I hope you can read it anyway. Want a better copy? -Try and find one of the originals.

Duvochelles would be nice this Wednesday :) Off to Ruapuna tonight for advanced motorbike riding lessons with Mainland driving school!! Really looking forward to that, hope the weather holds off!
The racing was great at Ruapuna this weekend dispite the weather! Bugden will be kicking himself for the big faux pas on the first lap of the last race! It happened right in front of us and whatta mistakka to makka over taking some back markers on the outside on a moist track,if he waited for one more corner he would have been fine.... i just missed the accident with my camera pointed in not quite the right spot but then have him on camera walking away from his bike and his body language said it all... As much as i'm a huge Andrew Stroud fan, Bugden until his mistake was going to be the man to beat. Look out next round!!

If they're disks at the front, they're usually not that much rocket science to swap - if you need a hand, just get the pads & I can probably help with the swap (Ferodos I got from BMS are pretty good, weren't too expensive)...

You my friend have a short memory.
Do you remember our first ride together?
I have never, ever, been so scared, for someone else's life, in my whole 49 years on this earth.(twice)
I never thought I would ever ride with you again.
Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't, learnt his lesson's.
At this point I think he is worth giving a second chance to.
But I'm old enough now, to pick who I want to ride with.
As far as no WOF or rego, that's his business if he get caught.
I ride with more than a few, and now a few more that will not have current WOF and rego because of the increase in rego.

Well if he wants a chance then he can first off apologise to those people that he nearly took out and then had the audasity to blame.
He can also apologise to Phoenix as he spent many a night worring whether the rides were worth it and whether to continue with it at all. He nearly ended this ride so he can man up and say sorry at least.

Not sure folks are telling you who you can ride with, what I am seeing is folks saying they are unwilling to ride with this person, as has been posted perhaps if this person had manned up, and apologised for comments relayed on this forum attempting to lay blame for his mishap on others with misstatements relayed via friends ie http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/81075-Wednesday-Evening-Cruises-2008-09?p=1838810#post1838810, then it would go a long way to folks perception of the guy.
What annoys folks (and this is my read of the situation) is that he turned to a WNR on a bike that was not roadworthy, ie no front brakes, attempted a stupid passing manoeuvre, then did not at any point front up and simply say I messed up but told others it was the fault of HOT and TIMG.
Geordie if you are reading this you have had time to apologise to those you blamed personally via PM and make a public statement here, there is still a chance you can do this but its up to you.

Yes no brakes is very silly and I had not heard that part before.
And I'm sick of this dragging up the past.

Oxford via Rangiora and lowburn sounds like a nice run. Open and easy riding, mostly flat(ish), Easy regroup points but will need to stop at the lowburn/ashley gorge turnoff so noone misses it.
Longer than normal i guess but everyone should be able to cope with the ride and if anyone wants to practice a little night riding some of us could head back the way we came after dark rather than just heading down the main road.

God no!!! Don't like the Teletubbies!!
I understand that haggis has such a low G.I, that just a nibble at a tender age can keep your average Scots lass feisty for 20 or 30 years. I strongly suspect that KP fell into a bucket of the stuff as a youngster so I dont think shes gonna be running out of steam for at least another 40 or 50...:laugh::laugh:
Absolutely!!
I can see now why we have used so many more pages than last year. It's got something to do with all the "Scots steam"!!!!:laugh::laugh::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Well, was nice & was glad I left a bit early, but not very nice at all having two drunks to deal with on the Old West Coast Rd - one was wandering all over both lanes at 100Kmh - finally managed to get her keys after she stalled turning off to avoid me after I had to keep flashing the high-beam to get her to not go into oncoming traffic (had it on lots with hazards to warn every one - the vanette I'd passed a km back was already on *555 but without something happening she'd have totalled someone)... Then one of the "helpers" that stopped after we'd got her keys was about as drunk, and had her primary-school age kid in the front too. Finally 111 comms managed to get a unit, but not the best hour!... the "nice man" was going to help her with directions to get home, but as he said, probably with a "stop" along the way.
Anyway - always ride defensively, there could be a prat like that coming your way... sorry, but still flabbergasted at the second one turning up too.
PS - hint - need Jap automatics in PARK before the key can come out! Getting out of P - to roll the car off to the verge - will need the brakes applied (and she couldn't find the pedal!)... seriously, for all the hassle, I'd almost be tempted to just get the keys and throw them as far away as possible next time, and let the whoever sleep it off, and buy new keys. The keys would probably be about the same as their fine ($600 plus) and a lot more immediate; at least they'd probably be off the road (or out of the alcohol) until they fronted up the $$$!

Nah, managed to get her off onto the rd behind Mcleans Island - Coulthards? - and we had hazards on from there (yep, sad BMWs have them as std)...
When do the pubs close again? certainly seemed to be a bit of a "witching hour" around 8:30-9pm!!
Also goes to show (for the newbies and oldies) - watch out for crap at night! These dipsticks do their sideswipes / near misses & everything else and the rubbish on the road just stays & stays... The "lady" we got dealt with had a door that wouldn't shut again and a (previously) shattered headlight - you don't want to be following and come across anything from either item when you're following, yet she was totally unconcerned...
Oh - HOT - it definitely wasn't a boring road last night, can do without that sort of hassle.

Definately a well behaved passenger, apologies for trying to bounce you off the back on the roadworks at pound road and for the abrupt braking, I'm oiling my sticky front brake lever now before I forget again
Here was me thinking it was just cause you wanted more cuddles!! Was a very pleasant ride even if we cruised to a stop, been there a few times!!
The landing aeroplanes look even better when they're right above your head at about 200ft
I have seen the aeroplanes come and go many times on that road, but haven't seen it that close before!! it was

Thanks all, enjoyed the ride... though it's hard work when my wee 400 can't stay ahead on the straights then I get stuck behind folk learning to corner at the twisty bits! :)
Lucky I was able to make it at all last night! If it were not for the fact that Mr Triple checked my tyre pressure and found my front tyre stem broken and took it off down to Independent tyres for a quick, friendly and FREE fix! Shameless plug for that business... will certainly get our repeat business with service like that! :)
Cheers all, hope to see you next week :)

Strange you should mention a Scooter.
We were talking about them at work today.
I would like to do a trip right around the South Island on a scooter, with a few mates, with minimal luggage and gear.
Keeping it real easy and simple.
I know of a two guys that did it with just a sleeping bag, wet weather gear and a full wallet of money.
They did melt one scooter and just traded it for another and had a ball.
Every other time they did a big trip they got a few tickets for speeding etc.
So they thought on scooters they could not get a ticket so could spend the money on accommodation, food cloths and anything thing else they needed.

Apologies for not seeing the ride through. The wee fella had a change of heart by the time we got to the end of Fitzgerald Ave so we turned for home. I txted ahead as soon as I could in case we were missed, hope we didn't inconvenience anyone. God knows when I'll be able to get along to another WNR.
Couple of good pics of a Blue Tiger there Guzza... good stuff, sorry you had to go early on but great to see the young fella along.
Nice ride tonight, i turned back after Loburn as bike was running rough, got home and found it was only a loose wire. So all fixed ready for next time. Well HOT you finally clicked to what make of bike it is.
Larikin - nice Trumpy you have, - how long till you get something else?
Sorry I didn't see you at the carpark, would have said gidday. Haven't seen you for around ages. Hope to catch you sometime soon. :)
