Giz a yell if ya need a hand. :bye:
Cheers me and Harvd are just going to open it up sometime after the big Whakatane mission and have a look.
Not sure if I'll have the money to fix it this time so there could be a very cheap RG coming up on trademe sometime soon :bye:

Ok I won't only not be there beacause of exams.
I also won't be there because I managed to blow up my RG as well haha. Yay for blowing up bikes.
Sorry to hear about that McW. You are not having a lot of luck with your bikes. Hope your exam results are good.

Going to open it up in a couple of weeks but it looks like the powervalve has decided to get friendly with the piston.
Interestingly enough that seems to be the case with the RGV right now too.
that would not be at all unusual.
the words "achilles"and "Heel" spring to mind
good luck with it dude:blink:

I've said it before and I'm happy to repeat myself...
I hope they fired the guy who designed Suzuki powervalves. He must have been drunk.

Too much saki... such a sad fate.
Let me know if you do want to sell ... looking at options for a playtime e-bike conversion, and a rolling chain-drive chassis might be ideal....
PS - good ride last night, you shulda been there :woohoo:

Thankfully it was just the pushy, while doing a stupid Dad stunt in front of the kids, made the Mrs laugh though...she pissed herself:laugh:

It ok a group of 3 cyclist cycled past us while we were parked up in sumner, lead guy decides to let of a smart comment directed at us bikers and the women behind him (wife I think) clipped his wheel because he broke pace (big no no in bunch riding) and went down. She was fine when we left.

Yep, feeling a bit sore at the moment. Half a bottle of Sauv Blanc and some Panadeine helps though. :(
Had they put some signs up yet? I called them once I got to Pitlane this afternoon - they said they'd sort something out. Hopefully the tar would have solidified by the time you went past and at least some of the gravel been driven off.

As long as you stayed upright it's all good. When I passed at 15:15 the shade of the trees made it impossible to see that anything was amiss. I was going quite slow through there - there were no indicators to put me on guard besides the earlier roadworks - and the next second it was doing a face plant into the gravel and liquid tar. The riding gear is a mess, the helmet is buggered, bent handlebar bolts, pranged lever guard... my right thumb is taking on colour and is quite stiff, my left shoulder is rather sore and I'll get a GP appointment first thing tomorrow. The specifics of my ACC claim will NOT include the words motorcycle, motorbike or anything like it.

nah, the patch they'd repaired was sketchy, I went around it and was still on grit, the whole road was covered in it, you don't have an option.
there was road cones on the side of the road, but they're on the inside of the corner and you cant see them until you're on top of the grit anyway.
another shit NZ roading job, who do they have in the north island? those roads were beaut.

Don't mind the bike, she's a motard - they love getting dirty. You might see me on a WNR if I get well enough to ride, but not yet well enough to go to aikido. However, I really do hope the soreness will be better in a week.

That's just unacceptable. I bloody well called them and informed them that that particular corner needed a decent sign. I sure as hell hope no one else is going to come to grief there! At least the tar should be firm by now...

No Harleys there last night, then? :p
Hitting the road is not funny guys. Even if the victim were to be the architect of their own demise.
From what I was reading it sounded like it was abuse of some other sort, but "get a real bike" is more funny than anything else. If it was some other abuse and then that happened I would definately have been laughing and pointing - even if it was his Mrs and not him. Birds of a feather and all.
Now it has been explained, yes I do feel a bit sorry for her.
Any way how are you feeling today? Have you managed to rip anybody's nuts off regarding those unmarked roadworks? That shit is far too rife around these parts and they can't be allowed to get away with it.

Was shit sign posting on dyers. small patching repairs with excess road chip shovelled on . There was a kawaski on that bottom corner when we went up with gravel rash . I had my beast lock up on compression and had to give it a fist full and motard foot down to recover as I exited that corner, guy behind me had a arse tighter as well, we all riding slowly up and down and still had loose moments. Few worrying moments as rgirl was still afew corners back :pinch:. but came round real slow and stayed up right:2thumbsup . Home save and sound to pick up the kids soon after 8

Hey bud sorry to hear you had a bit of a moment and that you are ok. We took an early ride with Richard (R1) and another fellow rider whom you have already seen, lots of gravel shit on the ground about the bays but no drammas for us.
Heads up after little river new tar seal as you head up the hill there are major work roads before you get to Hill top certainly the heat is lifting up some slippery bits so just keep an eye on those and prepare to use your riding skills

Hey everyone! Just randomly breaking into the thread... I've just moved down from Hamilton, and I'm in a horribly bike-less state at the moment :crybaby:
So I figured the next best thing to riding would be catching up with people like who were lucky enough to have bikes at the moment! Is there a social catch up somewhere local? Or is there some lovely person out there who doesn't mind taking a random on the back of their bike on ur rides? Just finding out how things work down here, it would be great to meet new people. And to be on 2 wheels again!! :)

but more importantly anyone got any suggestions for other pubs to go to in the inner cityish area?

Sorry - definitely had enough cold (:cold: x southerly gales & rain on Friday from Dunedin to Bluff, then :cold: x rain, fog, mist then coastal gales from Twizel to home on Monday) from the Burt Monroe trip... definitely drowned rat syndrome, tho the cruise control has definitely paid for itself!
Definitely try for next week, depending on what the family have planned!

Not necessarily so. There is a bit of a revival in two stroke tech with the big manufacturers. Also like the Renesis rotary, two stroke tech has the best chance of dealing with Hydrogen.
Two strokes will always be lighter, cheaper to manufacture, and more powerful....

On my bikes I make sure the choake is off and then hold the throttle wide open while pressing the start button for a few seconds, then try again as normal.
If the starter will work with the kill switch turned to off then I'd have it in the off position for the clearing procedure (throttle wide open bit).
It may take off with a roar if the kill switch is in the run position and it clears quickly.
That's how I clear my bikes anyway.
Oh yeah, sometimes just walking away and trying again in 5 to 10 minutes is enough too.
Another thing... some bikes start best if you don't touch the throttle at all while pressing the starter button. can be a bit hard to do if you're holding the grip while reaching for the button with the thumb and you naturally twist... especially with small hands.

Thanks Darrell, I have this habit of just talking to people without asking what their names are!
So it's back to the drawing board then??

if you pointed out that the rgv did infact blow up (which is why he was on the cbr) then you'll get full points _b

The shingle starts at the intersection of Ashley Gorge Rd and Lees Valley Rd. and dont stop untill you get to Whiterock, out North Loburn way.
Pretty sure you will get to Glenburn from the Oxford end without getting wet feet, the river fording starts after that. It's a great ride on an Adv bike.

Ah ok yeah was thinking it could have been a nice bit of gorge fun from Google maps but possibly less so on something like the RGV.

I drove that road once when I was 16. It was about midnight when I got to the river crossing. I put my lights on high, got out and had a look. Didn't look too deep so in I went. Almost got stuck 2/3rds of the way across. Loose shingle.
I could just imagine that phone call to my parents!
Provided it hasn't rained for a couple weeks you'd probably get round alright. That was almost 9 years ago so I wouldn't want to guarrentee it though.

It's also quite doable on a road bike so long as the river isn't to high

I've been through with it cresting the top of the 21" wheel but current gets to become an issue for me by then.
Also had an old Yahama XV750 in the group once (pic included is a different ford in the valley). It's just more comfortable on the cushy suspension of an Adv bike.

Anyone got another idea????

Well the evenings are getting longer so why not the rides as well. How about Chch, Rangiora, Lowburn, Oxford and return? There is a Nice cafe at Oxford would probably stay open for coffee and snacks if we called and organize it....
But the greta valley idea has merit as well. Via the Waikari route?

Hey look sorry guys, just been asked to pop into this thread and let all those that know Ewan (McMotomanie) and/or his wife Maddmaxs whom have done the last 2 WNR's that they are welcome to attend Ewans funeral this Friday at John Rhinds 19 London st at 3pm.
From there Ewan will be taken to the crematorian in Linwood, bikes are most welcome, and then to a pub for a drink.
PS: Ewan rode the Moto Guzzi Breva and Seona a nakid SV1000.

Even if you didn't know Ewan well.....none of us got much of a chance too.....
Please please if you can ride with him on his last ride then do. there is a huge crowd of his friends and riding buds back in Aberdeen who can't make it and if we can ride on their behalf, then we should do it for them and Seona and most importantly for Ewan.
Seona wants colour and she wants bikes and we can do that can't we.....
