Ahh so nice to get out for a bit of a ride. The goldie was a blast to cruise on, Stereo blasting out some pink floyd while easing along the motorway, Devision bell sounded awsome as we passed thru Rangioria, kids waving and parents gawking... ahhhh and the cruise control.... what can i say, it makes dancing fun even at 90mph lol... did you lke my dance moves FarQue?Going through Rangiora I was wondering what the funny noises were coming from my bike until I realised it was the boom box in your aircraft carrier. I did get a laugh out of the "Kate Winslet on the bow of the Titanic" act though
imagine the kb aa circle on a rally . goldwing dukebox . that would be cool, prob need a spare battery to get it started in the morning thruIt probably carries it's own diesel generator!

Had to drive to Duvauchelle today, road is good, one patch of new seal on a 55k corner, well sign posted and most of the single is on the centre line.
Only other work is on the shoulders.
Weather forecast looks good so should be a great ride.
It seems Rodger is too scared :baby: to ride pillion, so there is a spare seat for anyone that has their own gear and is in need of a ride.
Message me if needed.

You coming ova to woodstock ?
sadly no, I wish I was , but with the cost of moving back into town, touring rides and ralleys are going to be very limited this season. I am saving for the March Hare, but even that will be a struggle to get to.
As for WNR, now these I can attend now that I am living locally again, but only when the tight budjet allows.
Hey HOT, that roger seems to have your number, what you do to him?
And I still have that bottel of TQ awaiting the next AA night I can attend

Hello,
I am a Canadian that has been in NZ for about 3 weeks now. Made may way down to Christchurch from Auckland :) I am here on a 1 year working holiday visa, and was planning to buy a motorcycle and tour the country :P I might have to resort to buying a car though, as the bikes here seem to hold their value for a long .. looong time :P I am hopefully going to be able to make it out to your ride tomorrow, but I obviously don't have a vehicle, let alone a bike. What time do you guys usually arrive/leave?!
:)

Hi blunt3d,geez you Canadians are multiplying!!
I have two lovely young ladies from Winnipeg staying with me atm, they are coming for a cruise with us tonight
Do you have gear by any chance?cause there are usually riders happy to pillion:woohoo:
Meet at Burger King Moorhouse Ave from 6pm for a 6.30 departure

Hey,
I wish I had gear, unfortunately I do not. My backpack is already ridiculously oversized and heavy as it is without a helmet/leather! I am still somewhat hoping to buy a bike instead of a car.. but I am definitely going to wait until that happens to buy (hopefully cheaper, 2nd hand) gear. My money is already evaporating a lot quicker that I had planned :P
Thanks for the info, I will do my best to be there! It will be quite painful seeing all the bikes and not having one for the first time in years. But I had to sell mine to come here!! :)

I needed that.
I hope mr triple and co didnt worry that I dropped off.
I stopped to put my sunies on at little river, thinking the sun would be low.
by the time the next group of bikes (dude on the storm trooper tl1000 and a cruiser) I started off and found I couldnt see anything, so while riding and taking corners I took my sunnies of and tried hooking them onto various parts of my leathers, after almost losing them twice I managed to unzip my leathers, tuck them inside then zip them back up.
was luls.

Enjoyed my ride tonight folks. lovely turn out.
Most of you will have noticed I was riding at an unusually sedate speed for me but that's because young GEforce is under my old duck's wing and wanted some refreshers on cornering.
We did have a nasty experience on the way over the hill and those who saw my blood boiling when we arrived at duvauchelles' will be glad to hear that I actually took the bull by the horns.
The driver who was tailgating Young GEF had a personalised number plate so it was easy to remember and I *555'ed when i got home.
An official complaint has been laid for
1) tailgating
2) stopping in the middle of the road to verbally abuse us after we had pulled over to allow him to pass.
I was just so angry that he would stop in the road and abuse us for going too slow when an L plate is clearly visible. Just no need, no need at all.
rant over I feel better now and it was a lovely night for a ride!!

Thanks Flip but we were the tailender's. Was just the young lad, my young Matt and myself and the nasty nasty rude man in the cage ( that was tame RQ) on the road at the time.
Just so so glad another vehicle didn't come flying round the corner while he was stopped in the middle of the road cause I wouldn't be typing to ya now!!

Lovely night for a ride last night, what a lot of people out
Stopped briefly at little river to let the green truck get out of the way and then carried on. Caught up to a white mazda that came to almost a complete stop for the left hander at the bottom of the last little hill over to duv. Yikes. Brakes. Then he pulled left at the interesection at the top, I was about to go past then realised as he pulled right again that he wasn't letting me go he'd just missed the corner. Yikes. Brakes. So passed as soon as i could outside the pub, carried on to akaroa & got hassled by the wife for managing to ride through at exactly the time the bikini clad girls were walking down the street.
Didn't have any problems with being held up by the l-plater and her attendant on the way home;). I have a healthy collection of bugs on the visor of my new helmet. I like new visor, I can actually see where I'm going when I turn into the sun now

No secret, just a new helmet with a new visor that doesn't have 20+ years of scratches on it, the sun is still there it just doesn't get scattered in a million directions and completely blind me.

Its a real shame to hear that the idiot in the white car caused so much chaos! It only takes one eh, glad he's being reported. The fact that there is a bloody great yellow L plate on the back of the bike of course obviously didn't mean a thing to him! Ya know with his number plate ya can get an address and "I know people..good people " lol We could have 50 bikes turn up outside his house. We could have Retrogirl lead the pack, she's a bouncer eh Retrogirl :msn-wink::chase:

Yeah yeah Greta valley! I went up through there last week and its such a great ride through there, although there is a bit of road works through there so a keen eye is needed for the shingle on some of the corners. For those who are going into the corners a bit hot (Thats for the 1940's Harley riders in the pack, if there is one?? ahem...) The Kings of the road or something like that:msn-wink:

Likewise man. Such a nice bunch of peeps on these rides. :)
I was thinking, I have 3 other cameras that can be mounted to bikes in various ways.
I can mount one as a helmet cam (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcJqEFjywMo )
and one can be clamped onto just about anywhere (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL05RQheUjo )
Or all but the one with the wide lens on it can be clamped.
If anyone is keen to give one a go for some extra footage, or just to record your own thing on these rides, let me know and I'll try to find enough batteries.
oops, just remembered. The wife is on holiday and has all the SD cards so will have to wait three weeks before we can use them if you're keen, unless someone has some spare 2gb SD cards lying around ;)

You have seen all the rubbish in the Christchurch news paper about push bikers on Dyers Pass Rd. I commute that way and over the last couple of days I have seen some pretty scary shit going down on this road. A group of psycholists seem to have formed a possie and be out patroling, protesting or crusading and going hunting for anybody that gets in their way. I just don't want any of us involved in a tangle with one of the nutters.

Also - must add a little naughty thought after hearing of the roving cyclist "posse", and thinking of Peetey's beaut videos... I wonder what the confrontation would be when their "epic performance" could also be sent for verbatim peer review at the Christchurch Central Police station? Those little cameras will become nigh-on essential someday soon, just sitting there on looping 1hr record, just to refute the claims of everyone for whom "it's never my fault"... (Rant over. Funny you should mention that. I live out in the harbour and the Cyclists (note, capital C) are a real menace. Well, I say menace, they're too stupid me be a menace I think, they just get in everyones way, hold everyone up then get shitty when anyone says "Do you mind?".
So, I started taking one of said little cameras in the car with me, particularly on weekends, and I have some great footage of these nutters.
I have made several conclusions.
1) - The normal Joe Bloggs on his bike purely to get from A to B is no problem whatsoever. They hear you coming from a mile away and move right over to the side of the road so there's plenty of room for us both. They're great, but they're so few.
2) - The more "Cyclist" gear they have, the more into the centre of the road they ride. Each piece of kit they have directly relates to about a foot more towards the centre line.
So from the curb: Silly bike with silly little tyres, 1 foot inwards, shirt with all thier "sponsors" on, 1 foot inwards, obscene hot pants, 1 foot inwards, silly helmet, 1 foot inwards, silly pedals that your feet lock into, another 1 foot inwards. So far, that's 5 feet away from the curb! Given each lane is only about 6 feet wide, you can understand why people in 4 foot wide cars get a little miffed at not being able to squeeze past.
3) - The more "Cyclist" gear they wear, the more other "Cyclists" they attract. They seem to go round in groups, or Gaggles if you will, and insist on riding side by side on these thin, winding roads leaving no one else any room and also seem to be so engrossed in conversation about how much more "Cyclist" gear they've got than other people, that they simply don't hear cars approaching from behind and thus don't move over.
The shirt with their "sponsors" on is a testament to their stupidity. A sponsors primary role is to pay for things/gear in return for advertising, like having a name on a shirt.
It's guaranteed that all these "Cyclists" paid top dollar for each of their shirts. They're paying a company to advertise for said company. Shouldn't that be the other way around?
I reckon the reason they ride round in groups of 3 is because they all have 1/3rd of a brain cell each.
Ok, I know this has turned into a bit of a rant. It's late and I find the "Cyclists" out here piss me off more than the mozzies. At least Mozzies know when to get out of the way!

After the new paper had a rant on Wednesday the numbers seem to have tripled. Since then every day I have been held up by a group riding double abreast and so far and I have seen 2 cases of road rage. I do a bit of push biking so kind of have a foot in both camps but have been a little intimidated by the behavior I have seen over the last couple of days.

Cyclists are getting like, or are like some Motorcyclists and Boy Racers, in some ways.
They are fine riding and driving by them self.
But get them in a group and they get some sort of gang mentally.
Think they are bullet proof and are bigger than Ben Hur.
And think everyone should move out of their way, as they own the road.
And they are the most important thing on the road.
They aren't, we aren't, so please think about that when you ride in a large group.
And remember pissing other road user' off does not help anyone.
And it could make them worse to the next bike or motorcyclist they come across.
As you are seeing now with cyclist and crap that is happening now.
I can remember the 70's, when Joe public thought all motorcyclist were gang members.
And some would, to stop gangs getting bigger and taking over.
Would run you off the road or at least push you around a bit on the road.
It happened to me a few times, bad enough once the I got push up on to the centre island on Moorehouse Ave by a lady driver.
Even little old ladies were doing it to mates.
It got bad enough the News had to explain the difference between motorcyclist's and Gang members.
I can see parallels to what is happening now.
And if someone gives you some room to over take, I does not take much to wave as a thank you.
It may make them more likely to give room for the next bike.
Rant over and sorry

Oh dear, according to this I ride 5 ft from the kerb on my silly bike with silly little tyres :shit:
But at least I only do it by myself. Groups of cyclists can be arrogant twats and a right pain in the arse.
And I agree about paying to wear clothing with sponsors name on it, nobody except cyclists are stupid enough to pay $60 for a plain shirt just because it has a nike symbol on it, or $200 for a made in china jacket with HSV on the front to wear while driving their toyota corolla, are they.;)

Seriously? That's amazing! You'd think people would want to avoid harassing gangs, especially big scary ones in leather right next to you ...

Too true, I try make a point of saying cheers to any road user that is considerate. Cyclists who move over, cars that allow a motorbike to get past etc.
It's all about manners and/or common courtesy I reckon. My rant was really because alot of road users out here, slow cars, cyclists, tourists in campers etc out here don't seem to think about that stuff. They're not all bad but it happens alot.

No offense taken, I agree with most of what you said, and there are ignorant twats in cars, on motorbikes, on bicycles.
Coming down dyers pass road on the motorbike the other day I was following 2 cars doing considerably less than the speed limit and ruining my fun, the first car pulled over when they could so I gave them a wave, the second car carried on at the same speed as before and tapped the brakes at me whenever they thought I got too close. When I passed them they got a different sort of wave.
If there are bands of angry cyclists prowling then a camera sounds like a fine idea, I'd even post a vid on a cycling website and tell them to wind their head in, most of the cyclists I know would prefer they didn't go around antagonising drivers.
I'd be keen to stick a camera on the bike for a ride sometime, may be able to help with a battery depending on what you use.
Anyway, back on topic, the long way to Greta Valley this week is it?

Cool, I've never done that run. It'd be a long-ish one right?

About 170/180-ish kms, BK car-park to home (Papanui).
If anyone has a more accurate unit of measure than "-ish", feel free to correct me.

Good news! It'll be nice to be back on your own beastie again I bet.
Oh goodness yes!! I miss my bike, as much as I love being on the back I enjoy my own bike!

Now this I can tell you is true!!!! sorry dear!

You are right it is about that, I am about the same (with a petrol stop in Amberley on the way home) Crap small petrol tank!
As for the road condition as of today, from Chch to Waikari turn off is all good and all the way down from the Greta Valley pub is good! No road works!
Just a heads up though, as I know there are people that do other rides, you may want to take note that the Leader Valley Road is very very gritty, they are re-sealing the road at various sections, so if you do this road you should be very cautious.
Going over the Waiua (sp?) bridge gave Ewan a wee salute on the way over!
