Yes Peeteey. BK Moorhouse 10.00 for 10.30.

I think we will be going the inland route via Darfield. I think the Main South sucks as for interesting riding, unless you want to play dodge the cages.

Which way do you guys usually go???

Dunno what the weather is going to give us this weekend ...

Also, had a cautionary tale for all of you out there: check your cables. Just snapped my clutch this morning, luckily only a few blocks from home & I finally get to use that spare I've had hanging around for 3yrs - but better than waiting 2+ weeks for one to come from factory. Original cable looked OK last weekend (replaced the starter lockout switch on Sunday) but a clean snap this morning.

Would certainly have put a crimp in the ride on Sat.

Whenever I snap a cable I head to safe r brakes on Fitzgerald ave. They've done throttle and clutch cables for me. I've never had any issues with the cables they've done at all. They will even do the various adjusters that go on a throttle cable. Usually a new inner will sting you $39.

Good to know but have sworn off Safe-R after all the paint peeled off under my master cylinder on the old BMW car after I had some work done by them... "not their work, not their problem". Maybe they've changed in the 10yrs since, but I'm not willing to chance it; full new cable is $40 anyway.

$40? Seriously? Inner and outer? Christ, next time one of mine snaps I might actually look at getting an OEM one! I'd rather have a brand new one over a rebuilt one any day!

Hay Val...whos VFR is that??

Spuds is correct it is mine.

I picked it up from a guy advertising it on the side of the road. I got it pretty cheap.

So far it owes me $100 for a reg/rec, $100 for a new battery, $500 for a fuel system overhaul (New fuel pump, new needles, balance and clean(It goes so much better now!)), $50 for new decals and finally $120 to get all the plastic welding done.

All I have to do now is get it painted. I've been quoted $800 for the paint job by Southbrook Panel and Paint here in Rangiora. I'm not gonna do that though until I get used to riding it. It's so different to the bikes I usually ride that I've had a case of the dropsies once or twice.

Its a great bike though. It's done 102,000 and the engine is still really smooth, runs great and it's a joy to ride. Hopefully I should get another 100,000km out of it. Gear driven cams for the win!

Funny you mention Roger, he did all the carb and fuel system work for me. Top bloke and top mechanic. You pay a bit more for his service but the work he does is top notch. I was really stoked with it.

You've probably seen me on a Thursday I'm guessing. That's when I head into town around 430ish. You probably won't see the VFR out much over winter, I much prefer the KLR when the weather starts getting nasty.

If you up for a ride at weird times during the week, let me know. Most days I'm finished before noon so a quick ride up to Cheviot or Greta Valley for a beer/coffee is always on the cards.

I'm out for tomorrow guys. Methven is a bit too far from home and I'm a bit too drunk.

Well the being drunk isn't a problem, it's the hangover I'll have in the morning.

Have a good ride guys. I hope the weather holds/clears for you tomorrow!

I'm more than happy to organise a ride up through Leader Valley if anyone is interested. I'll be on the KLR so it won't be anything too fast on the straights and we can stop at the pub in Greta valley for a feed afterwards.

Meet up at The Peg in Belfast. Regroup at Waipara and SH1. Finish up at the pub.

Meet everyone at The Peg at 10 for a 1030 departure?

Glad to see you guys are out there doing it. Had my first small ride today, after getting wiped out by a ute that failed to give way at Akaroa on Easter weekend. The CB was written off, so have replaced it with a Triumph. Seemed to be a bad mojo with Honda.

My right hand is a bit munted, it got crushed and almost lost the little finger, my gear saved the rest of me. SO after getting the metalware taken out this week, it was a very ginger and quiet pootle today. Hope to be in shape to rejoin the WNR's later this year.

Take care and wear good gear, because it won't be you that causes an accident, it will be some blind twat in a tin top.

before you pull the pin on southbrooke panel and paint (i live litterally door down from them so no bias they are great)

but give

Muzza bikes a ring... he does mainly bikes and he uses nice thick 2k paint with lots of clear layesrs.. makes it very chip resistant and he is good on price and does lazer cut the decals and clears over them so they dont peel as well.

i had paint and panel do a fron t gaurd touch up, good work but paint was a bit thin and started chipping... after all the mainly do insurance car work...

Muzza bikes / Bumber shop i had a full re decal and respray of my sp2 to factory colour with all decals cost me 980 dollars total and it had lots of finicky detailing in the paint.

Hiya all, I need to do an errand in Hanmer this weekend if anyone would like to come for the ride (just collecting dad's phone charger :mobile:). Could stay for a soak in pools depending who is keen, or ride back and on through Leader Valley? Or both ...Can do Saturday or Sunday.

If anyone will lead a group anywhere on Saturday I will come on that ride and shoot to Hanmer Sunday.

New OEM BMW cable arrived ex UK - 18GBP + postage. Got a spare throttle (31 pounds, it's a weird cascaded thing for the two carbs) & speedo (13 pounds!) too... seems to be the way with the beemer stuff, some consumables v. reasonable (assuming the dealer doesn't try price gouging) but some items - usually trim - just plain OTT.

On better subject:

Anyone game for this weekend? Anyone **around** for this weekend?
If so, any ideas on where & which day? (Sat sounds fairly marginal weather-wise. And got to fit new brake pads & clutch cable....)

Would be up for Hanmer on Sunday ... not the pools, I'd empty them :chase::rolleyes::(:bleh:

Tempted for Sat, but do need to do the maintenance thing (cables / brakes / wires / speedo) as well as some errands whie the shops are open.
And at $44 a tank for the gas now I think I'd better ration it just a bit (lunch $$ for Sun then  )...

Hope you got maintenance completed to your satisfaction maxf. Reckon my bike was the cleanest, single girls can spend saturday nights cleaning their bikes

maxf are you getting sounds ready too?

No, the delay was me being a pillock and not taking the disk brake lock off... (have done sounds before, but probably only good for long boring straights - I end up riding to the music, not the road! )

Good ride, too - only one place the wind really kicked in and took the front a bit light. Brakes getting better - one side bedded in, the other a bit hot but will see what a week of commuting does for the high spots. Clutch cable in, goes in much better when it's the one designed for the bike...

Okay, seems to be the general consensus is Kaikoura.

How do we want to get there? Straight up the coast or do we want to go up the middle? Its about 30 minutes longer up the middle and could be a bit icier if there is a frost floating around.

I'd be keen to try and get there for lunch time and find somewhere to eat. How about a meet up time of 930 and leave at 10? It's a bit earlier than usual but I don't want to be having lunch at 1pm since I have to be home and in bed by 4:weep:

I'm not sure what bike I'll be taking, probably the VFR if it doesn't look too frosty.

I road up to Kaikrora on Tuesday, the road from ChCh was good, couple of things to be aware of, the Omahi Saddle has road works on it.
I dont think they will be working on Sat but thats controlled by lights. the passing lane at the top is only one lane ATM.
On the Hundalee Rd at the (staircase?) three 25KPH corners, there are roadworks on the hill side verge, both lanes are open, but lots of dirt on the road surface. If wet, this could be slippery.
The last section of the Hundalees, has quite a bit of grit on it, especially the low speed corners, be aware windrows in the center of the lanes will kick your front out if you go to hard into the corners.
I would recommend Not doing the Lyford Rd, lots of grit , dirt from wash over, and road snails..( tourists going skiing )
Takes me 1 hr 40 on my 250 Keeway to do this, @ 100Kph,so yeah, a 4hr return ride would be about right, with a meal stop at Kaikora.

Apart from that Have fun.

It was a good trip. A few too many horse floats on the road but they didn't cause us too many issues. The rain coming back was pretty awful. I was cold in my gear and seriously considering stopping to put my wets on but I figured I was almost home. I felt really sorry for EJK in his jeans.

Change of plans since the Ashley River Bridge is out and closed until further notice.

How does Methven sound go out via Old West Coast Rd, Waddington, Glentunnel Route. Meeting point Z Petrol Station, 32 West Coast Rd, Yaldhurst it's the one just past the round-about in the 70k zone.
Meet up at 11am leave 11:30 not sure what day Sat or Sun both look fine at this stage.

Hey you need to check this out... it's the Ashley River bridge closure info (Cones Road, Rangiora)
www.waimakariri.govt.nz/services/roads_transport/bridge-status.aspx (http://www.waimakariri.govt.nz/services/roads_transport/bridge-status.aspx)
Basically the Ashley river bridge between Rangiora and Loburn is closed, it is the one that lost some supports last week.
You may have to track out to SH1 to cross from Rangiora to get to Loburn or ford the river.

The Blue Pub at Methvin has nice food... but don't think you'll see me at this time. :(

Nice to see you in a long time. I very much enjoyed the talks with the ladies at The Blue Pub.

Good ride today lads. Got separated from the main group on the way to Methven and again on the way back to Christchurch. Regardless, good company as always.

Some part of the roads were extremely-very-much tempting to unleash all of 160+ horses but I kept my sanity cool.

Not many places you can go in Canterbury this time of the year where you wont find the roads have grit on them. I was over Akarora yesterday and there's grit and slips that way, in two place's they had the main road down to one lane.

If you want a shorter ride how about Loburn back to Rangiora I'm sure Valkyrie would know of a good place to stop at for warmth, food and drink :drinknsin.

I often shoot up to Amberly for a short ride, few places there to pit stop, then if time and need for a little more either to Greta or Waikari.
Not sure yet if can join you Saturday, depends on other committments, competing Sunday and everything is very muddy at the mo.

Rangiora has an awesome Game Pie bakery  on Kippenberger Ave but no seating, at least four pubs that have seating and refreshments.

Was over the Port Hills today. I saw some grit didn't see any shit, although there were a few stains on the road, still enjoyable ride though. A matter of riding to the conditions, careful choice of line into the corners.

I wonder if it is time for some more gravel road rides for those that need to gain some shingle skills. Just don't let Gareth loose on his little Honda. .................. He makes me feel like a newby the way he handles the gravel on that bike!!!!!!:eek5::eek5::eek5:

Yes. Provided it is not hissing down.:cold::cold::cold: Come along and make yourself known. We don't bite, at least not very hard!!!!

Hi All. I think for our first run we will meet as usual at BK, Sparks Rd to Halswell, 1st regroup at Vets Halswell, Old TaiTap Rd, Gebbies, round the bays, through the Tube and final regroup at the Valley Inn.

Weather is good.... I'm going straight to meet at the 1st regroup point, can't be bothered with the messy feel of group riding in city traffic so catch you there.

Lovely to see you all again after too long! I do miss these summer rides :)

We started with 16, one left before the ride did then 2 or 3 joined at the vets. When we arrived at the pub there was only about 6-7, what happened to you other lot? Hope everyone's ok :Police:
Was it you guys I saw parked up in Alandale, in the car park next to the ocean?

And KP, would have been the cheery on the top if you were there, especially on one of yer beasties

Unfortunately I must have just missed you guys, had a test that ran late (such is Uni life), and turned up at about 6:35. Good ride?
Also, I saw some fellow on a Repsol CBR250r who was probably trying to catch up with the group. Dude. You will lose your license riding like that in town. And get some boots.

Great to catch up with some familiar faces after so long. I had a good ride. Nothing like a blat in the middle of the week to clear the mind.
